Leaning on a tree, Julian watched on as everybody in the parc area left it with blank eyes.

'The famous hypnosis magic, eh? This magic would be extremely helpfull for me, I wonder if it would work on supernatural beings too?" Julian mused calculatively to himself.

Turning his gaze to Issei and Raynare, and seeing as his life would change drastically from this moment on. Made him ponder on why exactly he was here, right now, on his initial goals, and how to go about it.

At the start, he wanted to live an adventure, he wanted a fun-filled life where he could make new friends and live new experiences.

Now, 17 years in his new life, and on the verge of seeing his childhood friend beimg attempted murder on. He realized how truly foolish and childish his wants were.

Julian really didn't care much if he died or not, but it was another thing for the people surrounding him.

His loving surrogate mother, Freyja. His eccentric adoptive parents, Jacob and Kassidy. His best friend the pervy issei. And to a point his even favorite bullying target Motohama and Matsuda.

He had the deep set feeling, that if one of them came to die or something came to happen to them...

Something important inside of him would break.

Therefore, he had to adjust his goals.

Firstly, he still had to repay his debt to a certain death goddess. He assumed that surviving till then was necessary.

Secondly, and evidently, becoming strong enough so that him and his close ones become untouchable. An objective that could possibly help toward the first one.

Thirdly would be to discover more about how Kass world worked. It was more of a long term goal and something that was akin to an itch he got ever since he was reincarnated.

Fourtly and finally, do whatever the fuck he wanted as long as his decisions wouldn't affect the people around him. Like, he still had the right to enjoy himself in this world of magic right?

Engraving these goals into his heart, Julian took multiple deep breaths and relaxed his shoulders that were tense since this morning. He didn't know why the dream from this morning had such an effect on him. And if he couldn't think of why, it was probably because he wasn't ready to know or subconsciously didn't want to.

Letting go in this situation was probably the best thing to do. So that's what Julian did, he stopped thinking about it and focused himself on the scene before him, ready to spring up into action.

"There's something I would like to ask you, or rather there's something I would like you to do. To commemorate our first date." Yuuma Amano, or rather Raynare said in a sweet voice to Issei, hands behind her back.

"Is that so? Ask away then." Issei replied a little expectantly.

"Good! If you're okay with it, would you please..."

Leaning forward and with a much more mature and seductive voice, the girl continued. "Die for me?"

Taking a moment to second guess himself, Issei finally just went. "What did you say?"

"I said, I want you to die for me." Transforming herself in her fallen angel form, Raynare repeated herself.

Issei, quickly snapping out of his astonished state at seeing boobs. Didn't really know how to react. Like, what the fuck, his girlfriend was a bird all along?

Listening to her praising his gift, Issei was more confused than anything by the situation

He finally realized that his life was indeed in danger when he saw her materialize a crimson spear of light.

As for Raynare herself, she was surprised by how calm Issei was when seeing her true form, but in the end, she simply shrugged it off when she finally saw fear on his face at the sight of her spear.

~Raynare pov

"Now, it's time to die." Dashing and swinging her spear casually toward her target. Raynare was almost convinced of a mission well done when, a few centimeters before piercing Issei's heart, her spear abrubtly stopped in its track.

She quickly found the cause of such a result in the form of a hand currently holding the tip of her lance in a steel firm grip.

Following up upon hand to its owner, she found it connected to a muscle-packed arm partially hidden by a white sweater. Himself leading to a not too long, not too short and suitably large, sculpted neck of which an angular jaw capable of cutting the strongest of steel sat atop.

Realizing that it was a person which had stopped her strike, she directly skipped the rest of of the features to meet eyes with a young man.

Her danger sense flared up like never before when she met with his cold, beautiful blue-red eyes that seemed to wanted nothing than to tear her appart staring back into her own purple ones.

In a pure survival fueled reflex, she let go of her spear and retreated back the faster she could in a backward dash.

Destroying the fountain in her wake and stopping herself by planting her feets in the ground, Raynare left two destroyed trails in the stonepaved path of the parc.

Now dozens of meters away, Raynare took deep breathes to force her beating heart to calm down. At the same time keeping her eyes on the newcomer who seemed extremelly familiar.

Eyeing warily the one who she now recognised to be Issei's best friend. She scanned his magical presence to know what she had to deal with.

There was no way she would believe her underlings report of him being a normal human after this display.

At least, that was what she thought before she actually felt that his aura was indeed one of a mere, average human.

Raynare, at this result, and despite her still recent fear, unconsciously relaxed herself a bit because of her inherent disdain for any other races other than fallen angels.

She came to the conclusion that it was merely because of the carelessness of her strike and her focusing too much on it and thus not paying attention to her surrounding that the boy in front of her was able to stop her spear.

The only thing that puzzled and made her stay a little allert was how he wasn't affected by her wide scale mind spell.

'Maybe a special kind of sacred gear?' One specialized in the mind, and thus much more difficult to sense.

Raynare was brought out of her analysis by someone she forgot was still present at the scene.

"Ju-Julian!? What are you doing here!? Scratch that! Can someone tell me what the fuck is happening!?" Issei confusedly and fearfully exclaimed himself. He had the impression of losing his mind, either that or he was dreaming.

Raynare watched with an annoyed expression forming on her face and her eyebrows twitching as the teen she remembered was called Julian totally ignored her presence to answer Issei, turning himself toward him and smiling a little. "Remember when I asked you if you found your life boring last year?"

Issei nodded, becoming even more confused at the question.

His smile became a little more pronunced. "You asked if there was a reason why I asked you that."

He pointed at Raynare with his thumb, afterward returning his eyes to her. His gaze losing its nonchalant attribute to gain an angry one. Anger who quickly made place for something that only made Raynare even more displeased, disinterest and dismissal. "This is the reason."

Raynare was conflicted on what to do, as her mission was compromised. Should she flee? Try to call for reinforcements? Or try to finish what she had begun?

With a sneer forming on her face, she leaned toward the third one. If even just to put in his place the arrogant human that dared to dismiss her.

Her only regret with this option would be that she had to kill such an handsome boy, he was even to her taste. But then, maybe she still could have some fun before ending him.

The somewhat crazy sneer on her face was replaced by a sensual expression. Totally forgetting her rather embarassing reaction of jumping away from him earlier, she put a finger to her lips and said. "Oh? What do we have here? A boy trying to save his best friend? How very brave, or rather foolish of you to implicate yourself in events totally out of your understanding."

Julian, who wasn't taken over irrationally by anger like everytime he stared at Raynare before since she she wasn't wearing her mask anymore. Stared at her unimpressed for a moment before smirking a bit. "Cut the crap, will you? I know everything I have to know about you and your supernatural world since a while now."

Raynare widened her eyes a bit in surprise, but quickly came to a conclusion regarding the lacking intelligence about the boy in front of her. A conclusion that almost made her facade crumble in anger. With twitching brows, she murmured. "Melissa, this dirty half-blood bitch. I'll have to take care of her after that."

Julian laughed lightly, adding fuel to Raynare's unsatisfaction. "Right on spot, I was honestly afraid that your tiny bird brain wouldn't be able to get to such a simple deduction."

Rubbing his head with his free hand, his other one grasping the light spear, Julian added with a sorry expression and a placative smile. "My bad."

Restraining herself to not go and tear his smile from his face, Raynare didn't know where to put her rapidly growing frustation. Nevertheless, she found the perfect target for her glare soon after in the form of a chuckle.

Glaring daggers at Issei, who was the culprit and had in result of her killing intent frozen up in fear, Raynare decided that she had enough. Having made her point, a somewhat reluctant expression appearing on her face. She shook her head and voiced to Julian in a vindictive tone. "What a shame, you could have at least lost your virginity before dying. But unfortunately for you, you made me really angry."

With a gleefull grin on her face, she willed her spear still in Julian's grasp to explode.

Then, the next string of events was something she would remember all her life.

*BOOOOOM!*

An explosion did indeed happen, but in place of seeing the two insects before her blown to bit. She saw the spear that was supposed to explode flicker and disapear. An explosion of light and sound happening on her left.

Taken by surprise and by reflex, she, for a split second, looked toward where she assumed the explosion had happened instead.

And a split second was all that was needed for Raynare's world to start spinning at blinding speed.

She felt herself free from the grasp of gravity for a moment that seemed to last eternity before impacting the ground with the back of her body.

Her body rebounded off the ground one time from the remaining force before stilling.

Raynare felt like the world was upside down, the purple sky above her spinning and spinning nonstop in her eyes.

This sensation made her feel extremely sick. But her feeling of nausea was nothing compared to the overwhelming burning and sharp pain she felt in her throat and head.

So much was the pain that her first reaction was to try crying out loud. But it was in a semi-panicked, semi-dazed state that she realize she couldn't. In fact, she couldn't breath, nor speak at all anymore.

Just when she tried touching her throat with her hand that she realized that the rest of her body wasn't in a much better state. She could barely get her limbs to move at all. And the nerves all over her body would flare up in pain each time she would move even a bit.

She truly felt like she was dying. Luckily, her holy energy could replace her need to breath. If not, she would have truly died right there.

Only when she heard steps approaching her that the realization sinked in.

'I don't want to die.'

Despite the pain such an action cause her. The sound of each steps coming closer and closer made her body shake exponentially harder. For her, these steps were akin to a reaper dragging his scythe on the ground.

Only now she realized how fragile her life was. How weak she truly was.

Raynare closed her eyes when she finally heard the boy... No, the monster in human skin stopping beside her. Tears gathered up in the corner of her eyes when she heard him sigh and start speaking.

"How disapointing."
