Luck on her side

"I get that it was funny to you all to see that embarrassing scene of me in the hall yesterday but you could have put yourself in my shoes, to know how I felt about it. This has never happened so why now? I was going through a tough time and all you could do was hurt me deeper." Mona took her legs back to behind the counter.

One of the students tried to throw something at her but her stern look detained him and she sighed. She already had her hands placed on the counter as if she wanted to stretch her body. Mona looked down still shaking but she just heaved a sigh and lifted her gaze. Picked up the marker and turned to the board.

"Let's just forget about the topic about me." She glanced at them. "I do not doubt that you all know my name!"

"Mona. . ." Vanessa stood up with that sad face. With raised and intense expression, Mona replied. "We are sorry!" Vanessa was the class president.

Mona's heart celebrated to the fullest and you know who she wanted to share this experience with? No, not her parents, definitely not Derick. No! Not Gina.

Ah, Ben was out of the topic. She wanted to share it with her mathematics teacher, Kenny. That sweet grin formed on her face and she lowered her head.

Some other students stood up and apologize too.

Mona waved her hand gesturing that it was okay, "I-I understand. Apology accepted!" She replied and turned to the board after staring at the whole class in awe. She didn't expect this, she expected them to throw things at her and booed her and insult her for defending herself but the universe had her side.

Oh, Mona wanted to jump up but she just said, "Mr Ken explained to me that you guys have problems with the topic surds so I'm here to tutor you all. I hope I sound convincing and you all understand as I do." With that endless grin, she began to explain.

Later, she finished with the class and went to Mr Ken's office to put down the feedback she'd send to him. Then, she realized, she couldn't stay in his office and had to go to her class.

When Mona entered her class the biology teacher was holding a chart explaining the digestive system. The chart had a picture of the system, the long and small intestine could be seen more clearly than the other systems.

Mona was questioned about her coming late but she explained herself and was clean, she hung her bag to her chair and glanced at her side to see Derick and Gina staring at her but she just ignored them and took her book to jot down her own information.

"So, digestion takes place firstly from the mouth!" Mrs Barbara uttered and the whole class nodded.

After the lesson, it was lunch break but Mona rested her head on the table while most students left the class. While resting and covering her face from viewing the world she felt someone's hand on her back and looked up.

Seeing it was Derick, she flew her gaze to his seat to see Gina was no longer in class, she now looked at Derick who was aiming to sit next to her.

Mona let her chin rest on her crossed arms as she looked forward acting as if no one was sitting next to her.

"I called you last night and this morning but you didn't answer my call. Are you okay?" He asked.

Mona stayed silent and didn't know why she just didn't want to talk to the boy with the glasses. She leaned back and opened her bag to bring out the wear he lent to her yesterday. He collected it and studied her for a while as she leaned forward again to rest her head on her crossed arms.

"You don't want to speak to me?" He asked. Mona just glanced at him. The boy stood up. "It's okay if you don't want to." He walked away and went out of the class perhaps to meet his friends or have lunch.

Mona had the second class and that day went by, Mr Ken was supposed to tutor their class that day as it was Thursday but he had informed the whole class to study instead.

The next day, Mona fell sick, and she didn't attend school because of that. Her parents tortured her again that night saying she should learn to sleep alone. The fear, anxiety and the cold she had accumulated caused her sickness. She stayed in her room all day.

Mona knew she was supposed to meet Mr Ken that Friday to give her feedback but she couldn't make it to school. She was more desperate about her gift from Mr Ken but she was confined by her strength and capacity so she stayed home after taking some medicine prescribed by the eldest maid in the home.

Her parents had left for work so they couldn't reach her or weren't even aware of her sickness.

'What happened you weren't in school today?' Mona had begun chatting with Mr Ken when she woke up by 8:00 pm. She had opened her phone to see that Mr Ken had texted her.

She explained that she felt sick and that was why she attended school not. He replied like a caring person would. Mona asked about her present, just when she sent it to him. He had texted her already that she should come to his home the next day which was Saturday to receive her present.

A smile curled up on her face and she bit her lower lip blushing when the man couldn't even see her. She asked what his gift for her would be. He told her that once she arrives she'd know.

With his response, she couldn't wait for the next day, she lay on her belly because she was sitting with her legs crossed before. 'When should I come to your house?' she asked.

He told her as early as she could, Mona smiled at his response and gave her answer but he didn't send any message to her until she fell asleep on her couch again. Sleeping on her bed with the lights off couldn't bring her fear to an end, so she sleeps on her couch.

Mona had told herself not to talk to her parents for a month if possible, which she knew can never be possible. Oh, tomorrow was going to be sweet. A day with her prince charming, her crush, and her handsome teacher.
