.....

As the tension in the room mounted, Arthur's face underwent a sudden transformation, leaving Daniel and the rest of the group in utter astonishment. This was a side of Arthur they had never witnessed before. They couldn't help but wonder, had something unforeseen occurred? Had their little friends sprung into action prematurely?

In an attempt to maintain order, Arthur instructed his companions, "You guys, pack up and prepare to wait for the FBI and ICPO to arrive."

He then announced, "My lawyer will be on standby at any time. If you can't resolve the issue, just request my lawyer to step in. I need to attend to some other matters."

Henry chimed in, "Can we be of assistance?"

Initially inclined to decline their offer, Arthur had a change of heart, recalling Merritt's unique abilities. He was suddenly tempted and asked, "Can you hypnotize or read minds, Merritt?"

Merritt pondered for a moment before replying, "Well, it depends on the other person's mental strength. My hypnosis is generally ineffective against powerful individuals like yourself. I cannot pose a threat to you."

Accepting Merritt's limitations, Arthur agreed, "No matter, you and I will go. Give it your best shot. If you can hypnotize the other person, do it directly. If you can read their mind, let me know right away. Understood?"

"Okay," Merritt agreed, though he couldn't shake the feeling that things were slipping out of their control.

As Arthur left with Merritt and his associates, the remaining three were left bewildered. Daniel inquired, "What's happening here? Who is Arthur dealing with that he's taking so seriously?"

Wilder added his concerns, "I'm worried Merritt might make a mistake. If he successfully hypnotizes the other person and does something wrong..."

Henry, feeling the pressure, massaged his temples, sensing that events were spiraling beyond their control.

Daniel cautioned them to be discreet, aware that they were not alone. "Shhh... don't talk about it here. We need to prepare for the arrival of the FBI and ICPO."

Meanwhile, Arthur, Merritt, and their team arrived at a conference room.

"Are they inside?" Arthur inquired of the guard at the door.

"Yes, sir. They're waiting inside," came the response.

Taking a deep breath, Arthur turned to Merritt and asked, "Do you remember what I told you?"

Merritt nodded firmly, having made his decision. Regardless of the other party's identity, he had resolved not to hypnotize them, pretending that their mental fortitude made his abilities ineffective.

Satisfied, Arthur took another deep breath and pushed open the door, ready to confront the unknown challenge that lay ahead.

....

In the conference room, Jack, seated at the head of the table, narrowed his eyes as he scrutinized Arthur, the wealthy individual he had been strategizing to fleece for a year, like a golden sheep ready for shearing.

"Hello, Mr. Arthur Tresler," Jack greeted, his tone serious and businesslike. "I am Jack, the IRS agent assigned to investigate you."

This explained the urgency and gravity of Arthur's demeanor.

In this United States, the rich and powerful rarely fret over agencies like the FBI or NSA, as shared interests often shield them from such scrutiny. However, there was one entity that sent shivers down their spines—the IRS.

The Internal Revenue Service wielded far more authority than its counterparts and had a penchant for targeting the affluent. The wealthier the individual, the more jubilant the IRS became. Regardless of a person's identity or status, as long as they possessed substantial wealth, the IRS could subject them to investigations on par with the President himself!

While Arthur processed this information, Merritt, standing behind him, had his eyes widened in astonishment.

Among the Four Horsemen, Daniel was undoubtedly the most renowned. As a magician sharing the limelight with Daniel, Merritt was well-acquainted with their fame. Recognizing Jack for who he was, Merritt couldn't help but become suspicious.

Wasn't Jack a magician before? Why had he transitioned to the IRS? And what brought him here?

Furthermore, considering the common bond of magic among them, Merritt began to speculate. Could it be related to the Sky Eye Club? Perhaps Jack had obtained some inside information related to the club and wanted a piece of the action?

These thoughts led Merritt to cast a skeptical gaze in Daniel's direction. After all, in this scenario, Daniel was the prime suspect. Who else but him could have divulged information to Jack?

Merritt's mind wandered, and his thoughts meandered into the realm of conspiracy. He contemplated the possibility of Daniel conspiring with Jack to monopolize the coveted invitation from the Sky Eye Club.

Meanwhile, Jack paid little heed to Merritt's musings. While he was aware of Merritt's identity and abilities, this marked their first significant interaction. Besides, Merritt's influence had minimal relevance to Jack's grand scheme.

For now, Jack's undivided attention remained on Arthur.
