16 Chapter 14

Thick stuffy dust threatened to choke the air out of him. Large arched and tiled windows floated above the towering shelves. He'd hoped with the windows, they'd be a breeze but there was no wind at all.

The library had prided itself in using anti air barriers as a way to keep the papers and scrolls from flying off the shelves. It was a good idea no doubt yet the stuffiness mixed with the centuries old dust irritated his sinuses. His servant had better arrive before he scratched his nose off.

"The Kite runner. A tragic story with a twist of fate." a voice in front of him made him place the book down.

"What did you find out?" he asked his spy.

Djimon had sent out multiple spies to Remi's area, hoping that one of them would return with valuable information. Most of them had returned bloodied and comatose. Remi caught them all before they got much information and were left unable to speak. His last hope laid with Abdullah the memory sifter. He had to hire a professional assassin after the royal spies turned out to be useless.

"I tracked his scent to two vastly different locations. The first being the hospital where he works and the second being the industrial district to a girl wearing his denim jacket." he still wore the army uniform from the human realm.

"My interest is not in some common partner he'll toss away when he's bored." Djimon waved his theory away. Following a lover of Remi was like looking for a Mohammed in Arabia. Absolutely pointless. Remi shifted through lovers the way he changed the colour of his piercings.

" She's not some common partner." Abdullah insisted.

A marble was placed on the table.

"Everything you need is in there." he walked away.

A week. She'd spent a week attempting to get near the girl. She'd gone through so many disguises and none worked. The girl was always surrounded. The girl was always near him. And those protection wards. Those wards had burned her and cursed her more times than she could count. He'd gotten stronger. Her mother would be so proud to see his power. Such a shame he decided to help the humans with it. He could be a great asset to the family. She shook her head from distracting thoughts. She had a job to do.

She was a middle aged lady today. The lady at the tuckshop the girl liked to buy her snacks from. She waited patiently by the corner of the street outside her school. Students walked in and out of the face brick triangular building. Two girls walked out the building arm in arm. A curvy girl with dark caramel skin and two large brown coily pompoms a top her head and an above tall dark mahogany skinned girl with waist length purple braids and glasses. The girl's loud friend and the girl. A grey suv parked outside the gate honked impatiently. The girls hugged before the curvy one ran to the car. Finally! She was alone. The girl took out her headphones and placed them on her head. She wouldn't hear her coming. Sienna couldn't hold back her excited grin. This was going so perfectly. The girl walked out the school gates, waving goodbye to those she knew. Sienna turned around the corner and kept her back to the wall. In a few minutes the girl would walk by, she'd blow sleeping dust on her and take her. Her finger tapped the seconds on her thigh. The girl's sneakers hit the concrete at the same pace as the music in her ears. 8 more beats and she'd be here.

"Mbilu!" A nasally high pitched voice stopped the music. No! She was so close. Sienna punched the wall. She turned her head over the corner. It was the short friend with colourful braids. The loud mouth with quick eyes. The girls stopped on the pavement for a quick chat. Sienna was running out of patience. She'd been in the human world longer than she'd anticipated. Two sets of sneakers moved to her direction. It didn't matter anymore. She'd grab the girl now and deal with the friend later. The street beside her was empty. There was no movement in the buildings surrounding them. The factory workers were still inside. There were no eyes to witness her and no cameras to spot her. This was her chance. Her fingers dug into the glittery substance in her pocket. Golden sleep dust. Her fingers pinched around it as she held it. The girl's checkered dress shirt made an appearance first due to the wind. Sienna raised her hand to her lips. The girl and her friend stepped into view. Golden dust blast the girl in the face and shimmered down to the ground.

"Hey! What the hell!?!" The short girl exclaimed. Doors opened within the factories. People were coming out to see the commotion. Ugh no! This was bad. She was drawing attention.

Sienna put out her arms to catch the girl. She dug into her pocket again and blew dust at the friend. Machines came to a halt inside the factories. She had to be quick. The friend collapsed on the floor. She took out a silver acorn and tossed it to the floor. A portal to Elfhame popped up. She grabbed the girl and her friend and pushed them through the portal.

He was right. This was not some common partner. Djimon had spent the night watching the contents of the marble. His spy must've only touched her for a brief second as the information didn't go beyond a year. Remi had already been in her life by then. They'd already been together by then.

Basambilu Twala. The only human with more protection wards than a magic wielder. She didn't seem like a force to be reckoned with. Her past year unravelled in front of him. Everything was seen through her eyes. Her and her friends receiving clues from the petty fae and Remi doing his best to dispel her curiosity. Some images of her family went by and he swiped them away. His main focus was Remi. It was what he thought of her, how he looked at her, what he said to her and how he acted around her. The young djinn was fool for love. The girl was a train wreck. Though one could see that she was unexperienced in the romance department. Constant confusion was all he saw from the girl. A blinding innocence and stark wide oblivious. She knew nothing of romantic love. Not how to receive it or give it. Yet Remi was with her each step of the way. Showing her what love felt like, giving her the best of himself. He was her first everything. She was his last love. He'd imprinted on her. Claimed her as his. All that was missing was the human ritual of getting married. It was all too perfect. He'd found a way into the Al Rashid family.
