History (1)

I opened the door and left my room for the classroom. It had been 3 days since the duels.

After I fought against Gordon and witnessed the duels of the main characters, I realized I needed to train more to improve my strength if I wanted to reach the level of the main characters.

I was still lacking in many areas. In particular, my experience was limited. It hadn't been much since I reincarnated in this body. Although the status system helped me, it was still not enough.

Ever since the duels, I increased the intensity of my training. In fact, I wasn't able to get enough sleep because I had trained until mid-night yesterday. I just couldn't leave the training hall.

I was still sleepy and the exhaustion of the training session was still on me. I walked towards the classroom with my eyes half closed.

As soon as I opened the door of the classroom, I felt some gazes on me. Most of them was curious. But one of those gazes held fury.

I immediately understood whose gaze it was. But I paid no mind and sat down my seat next to Leon. He was having a chat with Isabelle, or rather Isabelle was trying to have a chat with him.

I tried to take a quick nap. But desk was too hard to use it as a pillow. I eventually gave up and just waited for the professor to come.

Today's lesson was history. The history professor was one of those who made Leon's life at academy more difficult that it should have been. That professor was on the side of Howards, he always tried to gain the favor of Ralph by troubling Leon.

He was also one of those nobles who regarded commoners as inferior people. I was a commoner too, which means I should be careful not to draw his attention to me.

The professor soon entered the classroom. He walked elegantly and stood before the board. He looked like he was in his 60s. He had a skinny body. It was obvious that his awakener rank wasn't that high. But his knowledge of history must have been immense to be a professor in the Light Academy.

The professor put his glasses on and adjusted his tie. He glanced around the class for a couple of seconds. Once all of the voices ceased, the professor clapped once and started to talk.

"Good morning! I am Luke Tyler, your history professor."

"I prefer beginning the lesson as soon as possible. So we won't be doing a self-introduction. We will know each other during the class as you participate. Any complaints?"

Seeing nobody had any complaint, he proceed with the lesson.

The classroom was rather simple. Students were sitting in rows and there were 3 columns. There were not individual desks. Instead, those in the same row used a large, extended desk. A huge blackboard was in front of the classroom.

Professor Tyler stood before the blackboard and grabbed a white chalk.

'THE DESCENT'

"Our first topic is the descent of demons on the Arion and the appearance of mana following the descent. We'll talk about how this disrupted the balance of our world, how our lives changed because of mana and so on."

"As all of you already know, the descent of demons was seen first back in 2023, a century ago. Before the descent, there was a constant disagreement among races. Since there was only one huge continent, the wars were unavoidable. So the dominant races, such as elves, dwarfs, orcs and us, humans, battled for control over more lands."

These 4 races had always resided on Arion. Elves ruled the north, Dwarfs ruled the east, Orcs ruled the south, and finally the humans ruled the west. Unlike the earth, Humans weren't the only dominant race which had come out top in the evolutionary process thanks to their superior cognitive abilities.

"However..."

The professor hit the board with the chalk to recollect the attention.

"Everything changed when the portals appeared all around the world. The demons flooded out of the portals, attacking and plundering anything that was before them. Initially, demons seemed invincible because they were the only ones using mana."

"It was the elves that suggested a temporary alliance to fend off the demons. All races accepted the alliance. They had no chance against demons on their own."

The professor turned towards the students and asked a question.

"Do any of you know when the residents of Arion started to feel and use mana?"

There were some students who had lifted their hands but the professor wasn't paying attention to them. He had already decided who to choose. He asked with a subtle smirk on his face.

"Leon, do you mind sharing your answer to the class?"

Leon was taken aback since he wasn't lifting his hand and just sitting in silence. He tried to recall his memory but he couldn't find anything. He hadn't gone to any school before or seen any good education. Therefore, although it was a common knowledge, he didn't know the answer.

"I don't know."

The professor showed an exaggerated disappointed look on his face.

"Well, it's understandable that you don't know. After all, you are coming from a commoner background. You must be ignorant about many historic events."

Although what the professor said was facts, he had said it in a sarcastic tone. Most students had already realized what the professor was trying to do. Leon, too, understood Professor Tyler's intentions. He was trying to hurt Leon's pride.

Leon was about to open his mouth but the professor started to talk once again.

"Okay. Since Leon can't answer this basic question, we need someone else. Ralph, can you tell the answer?"

"Of course. People of Arion started to be able utilize mana in 2030, 7 years after the descent. Since then we were able to take back some of the lands the demons had conquered."

"Good. At least there are still some students who know such a basic knowledge."

The professor turned back and once again wrote something on the board with uppercase letters.

'THE WORLD WAR'

"In 2070, Humanity witnessed the outbreak of the greatest war ever occurred. Prior to outbreak, the tension between demons and the other races had risen to the point where any of the sides could declare a war any moment. The attack of demons on Elves was what ignited the fire."

"There were two blocks in this war. The first block, which was composed of elves, orcs, dwarfs and humans; And the second block, only demons. This war lasted for 6 years. During these six years, millions of lives were lost."

"Towards the end of the war, when the demons slightly had the upper hand, the strongest warrior from each race in the first block got together to confront the strongest demon, the demon king."

I tilted my head after hearing what the professor said. What he said was wrong. The demon king had never even been in this war.

The demon king had 5 commanders under him, first commander being the strongest. Instead of the demon king itself, the commanders had led the army.

In this final battle, it was not the demon king, but the first commander who fought against the strongest one from each race. So it was a misunderstanding. Even though the first commander had a tremendous strength, compared to the demon king it was not that much of a big deal.

The demon king was unable to descend on the Arion from the demon realm. The reason was vaguely explained during a conversation between Leon and the demon king. The demon king had told Leon that 'something' was preventing him from descending on Arion. But that 'something' was never explained.

'Was the real reason going to be explained in the end of the novel if the author hadn't dropped the novel?'

The professor continued his speech, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Although, this final battle may seem favorable to our side since it was four against one. It was not favorable! Do any of you have any idea as to why this was the case?"

A student who really looked like a nerd lifted his hand.

"Because the resident of Arion had started to use mana only 40 years ago, whereas the demons had already been using the mana for centuries."

"You are right. Demons were more experienced in using mana than the people of Arion. So the demon king could have still won. Demon king was an (SS)-rank while we had 3 (S)-rank and 1 (S-)-rank. As a matter of fact, it was a miracle that we had won."

"We have no idea about what happened during the battle as, unfortunately, nobody was able to come out alive from that fight."

It would be indeed a miracle if that happened to be the case. However, there was a missing piece no one knew. The reason first demon commander had lost was actually because of a dragon. An (SS-)-rank dragon.

Dragons had realized they would have been the next prey for the demons if the other races had been defeated. So they decided to send a dragon to help the other races in the battle against first demon commander.

The other four demon commanders didn't take part in the battle since they were sure the first commander would be able to win the battle. They also need to defend the borders of the demon territory. But they had no idea that dragons would suddenly come out of nowhere.

However since no one survived in the aftermath of that battle, the existence of dragon race was kept hidden from the world.

...

For the rest of the lesson, the professor talked about the authorities in the human domain: Government, nobles and top guilds. Then he moved on to portals.

At this point, I was really bored since I knew everything from the novel. The exhaustion of my training from the last night also kicked in and I was starting to doze off. I leaned my arms on the desk, and dropped my head on them. My eyelids slowly closed.

'I will rest for a moment...'

Hope u enjoyed it.
