2 Chapter 1

Aubrée's P.O.V:

I awake with a start. I look around me at my bedroom. Through the thin curtain covering my balcony doors I can see the sun beginning to rise.

Some of my vampire friends often wonder if I will be able to survive in the sunlight without any form of protection. Because I come from a royal bloodline I will have special abilities. Being immune to the harmful rays of the sun is one of those abilities.

I am a princess and the heir to my parents throne. I'm an only child. The Delarosa bloodline dates back hundreds of years. Though not all of my ancestors Were vampires. My great-great grandmother on my mother's side was a witch. Her and her husband ruled this land. Her husband was human.

They were so happy when they got the news that they were with child. One day before my great grandmother was born her father, my great-great grandfather, went to battle with an enemy kingdom. During the battle he was attacked and bitten by a vampire. At first he hated what he had become, but as his little daughter grew up he learned to accept his fate. They were the ones that started the tradition of passing on immortality.

The traditional way of passing on the gene is to betroth your daughter to another human royal and have them conceive their first child. Only after the child is born do they make you immortal. The betrothal takes place on the princess's eighteenth birthday.

My thoughts are interrupted by one of my maids opening the French double doors to my room. All of the higher ranked maids are vampires. Like the ones that take care of me and my parents or any other royals that visit the palace. We have strict policies about drinking blood straight from the human maids.

"Good morning Lady Aubrée. I didn't expect you to be up so early." My maid greeted. "Good morning Sue. I couldn't sleep." I replied.

"What has my father got planned for today?" "I think some of the royals are coming to the palace. I think their son is coming as well." "Wh-..." "Before you ask, I don't know who they are, just that they are coming and that they will be staying here for the foreseeable future." She cuts me off, knowing what I was going to ask. "Anyway, your father said that you had to accompany him and your mother in welcoming the guests."

Oh great! Not really. "When do I have to be ready?" Sue looks down at her watch. "In about thirty minutes your highness. So hurry. You don't want to upset your father." With that she left the room.

I get out of bed and take a quick shower. By the time I'm out of the shower two of my maids are waiting for me in my wardrobe. While one does my hair and makeup the other picks out my gown for the day.

Sue came back around to my room to make sure I was ready and informed me that my parents were waiting for me in the foyer.

I make it to the foyer with minutes to spare. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. Who could the royal guests be? Why didn't my father want me to know until last minute?

I am used to royals coming to stay at the palace. Although I was nowhere near prepared for who walked through the door next.
