18 The Underwater Battle

The seven sand salamanders wandered around on the bank of the river and failed to find any trace of Xiao Yu. They were land creatures and didn't dare enter the water. After a while, they finally left.

When Xiao Yu floated to the surface of the river and found that the seven sand salamanders had left, he felt relieved. It was fortunate that these sand salamanders were unable to swim. Otherwise, he would have been finished if they came down into the water after him.

It looked like a fish, but it was as big as Xiao Yu. It drew closer to him like a dark cloud. Xiao Yu believed it had to be a water monster.

The dark shadow was charging toward Xiao Yu at a fast speed.

Xiao Yu thought he would be a sitting duck if he swam to the bank. All he could do was fight the fish monster. He pointed the dagger in his hand forward and thrust it at the dark shadow.

Because of the resistance of the water, Xiao Yu felt that the thrusting force was weaker than before.

His strike hit the target. A thick liquid emerged from its body, which was probably blood.

It was a level-5 monster. Xiao Yu felt slightly relieved.

From a close distance, Xiao Yu had finally seen the appearance of the black-toothed fish clearly. This fish was the same size as Xiao Yu, with saw-like spikes all over its body that were as hard and as sharp as daggers.

Xiao Yu was not used to fighting in the water. He was engaged in close-range combat with the black-toothed fish. He rolled around, lifted his dagger and struck down over and over again. The dagger pierced into an eye. Xiao Yu sliced downwards forcefully. He easily cut a deep gash into it because the bones around the eyes of the black-toothed fish were not very strong. After pulling out the dagger, he could smell the blood in the dark water, which could have only come from the fish.

The black-toothed fish was rolling around and struggling in the water in pain as blood incessantly gushed out.

"What is that?" wondered Xiao Yu. He swam toward it. By the time he got close to the glow, he saw something.

It was an old box, lying among the water weeds. The metal cover of the box reflected a little bit of light, which was the reason why Xiao Yu could find it.

"It's a loot box!" yelled Xiao Yu, feeling ecstatic.

The players could run into loot boxes like these while out in the fields. There were two types of loot boxes: locked and unlocked. The locked boxes were made for thieves, who could procure excellent items after unlocking them.

"This is a level-5 loot box. It'll be great if I can find some green-level equipment items," Xiao Yu thought. As he was about to swim to the site, he suddenly saw a large, dark shadow bearing down on him, blocking most of the dim sunlight from above.

"It's a school of black-toothed fish!" Xiao Yu felt dread when he saw the scene up ahead. Judging by the size of the school of fish, he estimated there were hundreds of them. He would be in big trouble if he were caught by them. He had no wish to become fish food, so he quickly swam to the surface of the river, not daring to linger around a moment longer.

The school of black-toothed fish discovered him, speeding toward him like darts through the air.

Xiao Yu sped up, but one black-toothed fish caught up to him and charged.

If he were caught by a black-toothed fish, he would be a goner in no time.
