Chapter 1 – Wrong Earth

Somewhere in another universe. A young man, most probably a wizard based on his clothes, entered his master's treasury and took out twelve dragon hearts. He did not even bother to leave with the stolen goods. He simply kicked the other priceless treasures to the side and started drawing a strange magic circle.

This young man is carrying a black book that releases a sinister aura. At first glance it looks like the book is absorbing the light around it. Any wizard in his right mind would cast a seal to this book and call for the wizard council. But this young man is excitedly following the instructions in the book and murmuring to himself repeatedly.

"I can finally go home."

After placing the dragon heart in their designated spaces, he stood in the middle and read the incantation from the book. When he saw the magic circle activating, he did not hesitate. He gathered all of his mana and sent it to the magic circle. At the same time cutting his wrist and letting the blood mix with the magic circle.

When the magic circle became red in color due to the blood, it moved as if alive and enveloped the young man. If one looks at the young man, he would see the magic circle tattooed in the young man's body. The dragon hearts disintegrated into dust as its energy is absorbed by the magic circle and a rift in space opens.

The rift opened and the young man was brought to tears. He jumped into the rift and closed his eyes. And then there was silence.

...…

He woke up as a baby in a hospital. He cried a lot in that moment. Everything that he saw made him remember his original world. The world he longed for. The reason he stole from his master. He mouthed a simple apology and became sleepy. The last thoughts in his mind as he drifts into the sweet embrace of sleep was "finally I am home".

.....

He woke up due to the sound of something shattering. Before he was able to open his eyes, he felt that he was being shaken continuously. He opened his eyes to see a young woman, probably an attendant, holding him and crying. He wanted to know what is going on but he is too weak to even push against the her and look around. The helplessness made him wish that he still has mana. He felt that there is danger nearby. Not knowing what it is and not being able to do anything frustrated him.

He is Koro apprentice wizard of the highest rank and last disciple to Great Wizard Rapo. Only an attack of equal or greater threat to the attack of the golden dragon clan could scare him. What more a simple disturbance, which in all likelihood is caused by either man or animal.

This frustrated him a great deal. He knew that traveling back to his original world would strip him of his mana. But he still did it. He would rather be a mortal on earth than be an immortal somewhere else.

The constant shaking of the young woman carrying him doesn't help. It actually adds to his frustration. Just as he was about to succumb to his baby instinct and cry, he heard a clear melodious voice.

Master Koro, if you need mana I can borrow from the magic circle."

When Koro heard the voice, he remembered his contract fairy, Milly. His first and last contract spirit. Memories of his time with Milly resurfaced. Happy times and even times when Milly helped him cause mischief, the memory flashed until Milly's death. A Great Wizard rival of his master attacked their Academy and Milly was hit. To keep Milly alive, he begged his master to bond her with his soul. Even if doing so would bring his magic talent down to half as Milly would be occupying part of his soul.

He managed to save Milly but his talent dropped. He even remained as an apprentice wizard for two millennia. His master gave him precious elixirs to extend his life. Hoping that the additional time would be enough for him to advance. When his lifespan is about to end, Koro decided to use a forbidden dimensional magic to return to his home world. Although it the spells are only pure theoretical, the creator is the greatest of the dark wizards of all time. That's why he was willing to gamble. He wanted to die in his world. Milly understood him so with the help of other fairies, they managed to open Great Wizard Rapo's treasury to steal the dragon hearts.

Koro was still engrossed in his walk down memory lane when Milly spoke again.

"Master Koro, the culprit is about to enter the room. If you need mana, I can transfer mana to you through the magic circle." Milly was frantic as a man carrying a knife is stabbing everyone he meets and is about to enter the room where her master is hiding.

"Milly, I don't have a body that can handle mana. Even if you give me mana it will simply flow away. You don't have to try anymore Milly. I came here to die in my home planet. I am happy." Koro told Milly as he just remembered the reason, they betrayed his master. He wanted to die in his original world. This is karma. Punishment for betraying his master and also the fulfilment of his wish. Even if he was only able to spend a few hours here. It was worth it.

Milly understands her master's words. She knew how much her master yearned to return. But he forgot one thing and as her contracted and bonded fairy, it is her duty to remind him.

"Master Koro, the magic circle is still active." Milly screamed. Her master who closed his eyes and is welcoming his death, opened them instantly, shock can be seen. He really did not notice the magic circle.

Koro was woken up by Milly's shout. "What was that Milly, the magic circle is still active?" He looked at his body and true enough, he can see the magic circle coating his whole body. "Milly?"

"Yes master." Milly responded.

"I can't die here. Milly, give me mana." Koro closed his eyes and tried to calm himself. Mana is the tool of the living and it can react to emotions. Their school practices calm mind in handling mana, resulting in consistency in spell casting. A calm mind reflects calm mana, this makes one able to exercise complete control to his spells. Any turmoil in one's emotion would disturb the mana, which might result in minute change in the effects of the spell.

He relaxed and ignored the sound of the door opening and the other people around him started shrieking. He let go of everything and prepares himself to receive the mana.

As soon as he receives the mana, he will cast the spell of sleep to the and memory loss. He took a deep breathe to calm himself. Relax, the mana will arrive. Milly said that the magic circle is still active. It has the mana of 12 dragon hearts. Maybe less but there will be some mana left. Relax and be patient

Koro waited patiently and was rewarded by the warm flow of energy. It entered from his hands. He guided it towards his mana vessel and controls it to cast his spell. Unfortunately, after the mana moved to the center of his body, it did not stay put and it leaked out of his body. He did not realize that he lacks a container to hold the mana.

Koro did not panic and continued closing his eyes and concentrating. Its ok. He told himself. Failure isn't total. We can try again. Milly will not give up. He can feel the man holding the knife look in their direction and take two steps toward them. Still, even if the man with the knife is only two steps from him, he still believed in Milly and waited for the mana.

"Master your mana vessel is missing." She checked the mana vessel of her master and really found nothing that can hold mana. This worried her. She remembered that her master told her before that he has to sacrifice his connection with mana in order to find connection to his original world. She feared for her master's life and decided to sacrifice herself.

Koro heard Milly and started to panic. According to the book, sacrificing the mana vessel is essential in dimensional travel. Because the chaotic space that is full of chaotic mana would enter his body if he does not destroy his mana vessel. He forgot that he destroyed his mana vessel. Without it, how can he cast spells. Mana vessel does not simply store mana. It converts mana to become yours. As your property, it will obey you. Otherwise he will be left with the barbaric use of mana which is simply throwing energy around.

Milly collected every part of her soul and moved to the center of his master to become a mana vessel of her master Koro. Then she started to gather mana in order to wipe her consciousness. Her thoughts might influence the mana and mess every spell her master would cast using his new mana vessel.

When her consciousness dies, her body would become an artificial mana vessel. This is not something new. Her kind was hunted down to create artificial mana vessel for disabled wizards. If you can call an individual with a damaged mana vessel a wizard.

Fortunately, Koro discovered Milly's actions and was able to somehow stop Milly from completely destroying her subconscious mind. Koro still gained his artificial mana vessel. Milly will recover over time. But as a mana vessel with remaining consciousness, he can only utilize spells that Milly knows. Otherwise, the effect of the spell becomes unpredictable.

This will do for now that he has an emergency. He will use Milly to save himself. After Milly recovers, he will lose his artificial mana vessel and become a regular human.

The knife is about to stab through Koro's baby body when Koro reached out and forced the mana from the magic circle travel to his new mana vessel. Immediately, Koro casted the spell, "slip". One of the prank spells that he made with Milly. It uses almost negligible mana and it activates instantly. It is one of the easiest spells to master. At one point in time he used it to make thousands of ants' slide. If not for the side effect of headache, then this spell could have earned him lots of money and fame. Only Milly was able to use the spell without any problems.

The man carrying the knife slipped and hit his head on the metal railing of the bed and collapsed. Koro finally relaxed. With the young woman carrying him stood up, he managed to see the culprit clearly.

As everyone else is relieved of surviving the ordeal, Koro was thinking of something. When he reached out to take mana from the magic circle, he felt mana in his surroundings. His original world should not have mana. That is what makes his world different from the rest. That is also the reason why he took all twelve dragon hearts. To make sure that he has more than enough mana. All he needs is to reach his world.

He recalled the book where he learned the dimensional travel spell. The magic circle will function as his vehicle and carry him through the various dimensions until he reaches his destination. When half of the mana stored in the magic circle is used up, it will guide him to the nearest habitable planet. Only when he refills the magic circle can he continue the travel.

This is what puzzles Koro. One dragon heart should be enough and he used twelve hearts from the greatest dragons, the golden dragons. He should have more than enough mana for several dozen trips. How was the mana consumed? Did he pass through every space storm in the chaotic space?

No matter the reason, he is still now on this dimension. His remaining lifespan of a few years is not enough time to gather mana. While his mind is thinking of how to spend his last few years, he remembered that he is currently a baby. Did he reincarnate or take over a new body? But he still has the magic circle. That means reincarnation is impossible.

That leaves taking over the body of a baby. That would mean his body was destroyed. Did he really run into space storms in the chaotic space? The odds of that happening should be nil. He destroyed his mana vessel to avoid space storms. What happened?

That does not matter. He has a new body now. He can awaken and create his own mana vessel and gain a thousand years of lifespan. He can now hope to continue his journey and go back to his original earth.

But gathering mana to fill up six dragon hearts would take some time. He can only do that if he has a wizard tower. And even then, it would take 5-7 centuries.

Koro closed his eyes to sleep. He will just build his magic tower and enjoy life here.
