19 A Little History Lesson

"Stand." The class representative called out. In turn, everyone also stood up, except for one.

"Greet."

"Good morning, teacher." Everybody greeted in an overly practiced manner. Well, except for one, again.

"Sit." And in an orderly and simultaneous manner, everybody went back to their seats. Except for one student who is already sitting down, head on his desk and fast asleep.

"Umm, class. Can someone wake Ye Han up?" The soft-spoken teacher asked. She wore a simple dress adorned with a bit of floral pattern. Her face looked timid and shy. Nonetheless, the cute kind of shy.'

"Don't worry Ai-chan! Leave this to me." A bespectacled man declared.

"Thank you for that Shin." Ai-chan thanked him shyly.

"Oooooooh! Ai-chan just thanked me! I shall cherish the moment." The creep said while rubbing both of his hands in silent prayer.

After his "solemn" moment, his face turned deadly serious. "David, give me the goods."

"Right away." The blondie spoke. And in no time, 2 pieces of cupcake appeared on both of his hands. "Here you go." He handed it towards the glasses guy.

Shin swaggered towards Ye Han seat in a determined manner. His face showed conviction, his posture astute and ready for duty. "Wake up Ye Han." He nudged the shoulders of the sleeping youth. "We have food." He whispered to his ear.

Upon the mention of food, the sleeping youth woke up in lightning fast speed. Before Shin could register what happened, Ye Han moved in speed unbelievable for the untrained eyes. Without warning, he has already gobbled up the first cupcake and on his way to swallow the second one.

"Eh?" Shin just stood surprised. But he instantly composed himself for there is a mission he must accomplish with all his being. "And guess what Ye Han."

"Whuur (what)?" Ye Han was only able to manage to say barely comprehensible words. It was due to the fact that his cheeks were puffed up like a squirrel gorging acorns.

'Cute.' Everyone thought.

"If you listen to Ai-chan and her lessons without falling asleep, she'll provide you lunch."

"Huh?!"

"Rearry (really)?!?"

The teacher was surprised, it was not what she expected.

With an audible gulp, Ye Han looked at the still confused teacher. "Would you really give me food?" His face looked like a pitiful child begging for love. In short, he was doing the puppy eyes.

Everyone was gobsmacked. Never in their wildest dreams expected the ever lethargic and sleeping Ye Han to unleash such devastating attacks. 'What is this? It looks cute.' Everyone thought. Even Alice the transfer student was surprised, which made her whip her phone and silently take a picture of his adorable face. 'I'll keep this. Hehe.'

'Still got it.' Ye Han thought.

For Ai-chan who is undeniably cursed with an extreme weakness to cute things, how could she deny such an adorable gaze directed at her? 'Well, it would be a win-win situation either way. He gets food, I get to make him listen to classes.' She deliberated the situation, and ultimately decided that she has nothing lose. "Ummm, yes. I'll give you lunch later."

"Thank… you." Ye Han smiled. It was a smile so innocent and pure. Like a man who has finally found his peaceful calm. No worries no problems. Everyone felt his aura, it was light and full of joy. 'What the heck?! You looked like you just found your own nirvana. It just a simple food man!' Shin thought.

Looking around he found his other classmates staring at Ye Han. It was a no brainer that everyone else found his smile beautiful. 'Even you David?!' Seeing that everyone was still immersed in their fantasies, Shin had no choice but to give a soft cough just to get them out of their reverie.

"Oh, sorry class. Let's start the lesson." Ai-chan said.

'Well, there goes my chance impressing Ai-chan. All down the drain. Damn you, Ye Han!'

"So class, can someone tell me the major parts of world history." Now, the shy and timid Ai-chan was replaced by a more professional and serious Ai-chan.

'I just like how she switches personality when she teaches. Strict Ai-chan is still cute Ai-chan.' Both Shin and David's wavelengths are in sync. Both adoring and praising the current Ai-chan.

One girl raised her hand.

Ai-chan acknowledged the girl and she called out. "Yes, Bryn?"

The girl in question sported a platinum colored hair. A face of elegant beauty and her proud demeanor is all that it took to conclude that she was of royal descent.

"The history of the world is divided into 3 major parts, The Age of Gods, The Dark Age, and The Age of Rediscovery."

"Very good Bryn." Ai-chan walked around the room at a steady pace. "Now tell me. What makes the Age of Gods special?"

The platinum-haired girl immediately answered her question. "It's because of the beings called Gods ma'am." She answered.

"Good answer. But not enough." Ai-chan declared. "You can now sit down Bryn."

"It's not just the Gods, various mythological beings also roamed the world at that time. Dragons, Phoenixes and many more."

"Now let's define what a god is."

A student raised his arm for inquiry.

"Yes, Mr. Ahmed?"

The boy had tan skin. His features appeared more defined. He has a high nose and a pronounced cheekbone. "What's the difference between Age of Gods gods and present era gods?" His eyes radiated curiosity.

"I was just about to get there Ahmed." She replied unhurriedly. "It's the thing called faith." She wrote the word on the board.

"During the Age of Gods, powerful beings roamed the world. Such being were the gods. What separated them from the gods of this era is faith. You see, those beings harness their power through the faith of their believers."

Everyone was dazzled by Ai-chan taught the subject. Everybody listened to her except for Ye Han. 'Those detestable beings.' He thought.

"The gods were supplied with power through their believers. And with that, they were able to perform miracles."

"What is a miracle Ai-chan? Is it different from magic?"

"They're really not that different. Let's just say that miracle and magic are the same things. While magic requires mana, miracles require the faith of the believers. But your mana theory teacher would further explain those things."

"So what happens when a god loses believers?"

"Simple," Ai-chan remarked. "They die. That' why most gods of that era would build civilizations with the sole purpose of worshipping them."

"So, how were gods formed? And if they are actually that formidable, why would they need the beliefs of people?"

Ai-chan appeared unsure of what to answer. "That's still a debatable topic. But according to the most accepted theory, the world birthed the gods upon its creation. And since most gods pre-date the actual Age of Gods many questions are still left unanswered." She concluded. "But recent studies suggest otherwise, they discovered that it was actually the humans who created the gods."

"What?!" Everybody sounded bewildered.

"Yep. In their recent archaeological findings, they discovered a tome written in an unknown language. And I presume that it was written during the Age of Gods. Although they haven't fully translated it, I've managed to get access to their preliminary findings."

"Wow." Everyone was in awe of the history teacher. "

"That's right!" Someone shouted. "Ai-chan is actually a part of the History Council. I guess her access is self-explanatory."

"Correct. But it still not published so we can't form any conclusions yet. But we're getting side-tracked."

'You've actually managed to crack the code Ai-chan?' Ye Han thought in amusement. 'You're actually right. Humans created the gods. It was their belief that created them. They were first created to protect the human race against the world at that time. But those detestable beings grew arrogant. Placing themselves above their creators, they enslaved the human race declaring that they were the superior beings. But still, they're all dead. So that's a good thing. But the tome she just mentioned really sounded familiar.'

"So as for the mythical beasts." She paused. "Honestly, the beast of this era and of that era are all the same. Except for one. Beasts of the of that era had the title of Primordial. Any primordial beast can outclass any beast of the same type in this era. It is because of their bloodline." She added.

"The bloodline of primordial beasts is considered as the purest of them all. And it was because of that purity that it granted them immense strength and made them creatures feared throughout the lands. The mythical beasts of this day are just descendants of those primordial beings. But they are still formidable in their own right."

She looked around the classroom observing the eager faces of her students.

"Now I've tackles about gods and mythical beasts let's start with the actual topic. What separated the Age of Gods to the other eras?"

"Didn't you already discussed the topic Ai-chan?"

"I've discussed the beings that roamed the world at that time. Although they were an important part of that era, it still is not the reason." She paused, trying to find someone that could answer the question.

"Anyone that could answer the question will get a reward and some plus points in recitation." Still, nobody raised their hand. But suddenly-

"Oh? Ye Han? Are you raising your hand?"

Ye Han stood up and answered. "Yes."

"So I believe you have an answer?" She asked.

"More or less."

"Now please share your answer."

With his ever-present blank face, he answered. "The main reason it was called the Age of Gods is the fact that humans were pathetically weak at that time."

His classmates looked at him weirdly. Meanwhile, Ai-chan was somehow surprised by his answer. "Please explain."

"That era did not belong to humans. It belonged to the gods and mythical beings who roamed the world. The humans were enslaved by the gods. And the mythical beasts controlled the planet. It was called like that because humans were not the one in control of that era."

Ai-chan appeared surprised. Very surprised. It was the fact that his answers were correct and straight to the point. "Excellent answer. Moreover, it was correct. Congratulations Ye Han, you'll get a reward from me. And the plus points."

'It was not just the gods and mythical beings that controlled the era.' He added, although he only said it to himself. 'The darkness of humanity also controlled them. And that's why "she" made a move.'

"What?!" The bespectacled Shin complained. "He will get a reward form Ai-chan?! How envious!"
