A Hero's Return

It's finally done. The Hero has saved the day. The World, saved. The people, saved. The pesky Gods who enslaved humanity, slain. Evil empires and kingdoms, erased from the map. A race that wants to destroy humanity, eradicated. Countless feats and quests to prove himself, done. A final epic battle against the very formidable Last Boss, won. And here he is, on his last breathes. But the victory came with a cost. It decimated more than half of the population and may descend the world to a dark age. But he doesn't care anymore, all of his friends are dead, his family gone and everyone who he cares about already left him. He already accepted the fate that shall befall on him but alas, fate has a different plan for him. He is cursed to return at the moment the world faces its greatest peril. The sweet release of death robbed off him. An thus, he unwillingly slumber awaiting the fated day. Years passed and civilizations rose and fell but his legend remained in the hearts of the people. His story passed on through the future generation. Then one day he finally returned. But something's not right. "So this is the world now? How many years was I asleep- ugh! What is this smell?! How can the people inhale this pollution?!" "Wow, what are these building? Automated carriages? What is that thing they're fiddling?" *** "Who is this statue?" "That's the hero boy.
