92 The Decisive Strike

The humans had long regarded the demons as their greatest enemy. However, the converse was not true. Up until recently, the demons had regarded humans as a minor pest. Their main focus was on the Sky-Sea people. That balance had been torn apart recently when the humans had a sudden increase in strength and now the demons were on the verge of losing everything.

The disruptions caused by the human attacks had allowed the Sky-Sea people to break through the defenses set up by the demons. The demons faced a two front war and they quickly began losing ground. Now, the main army of the Sky-Sea Realm was attacking the capital of the demons.

The king of the demons waited silently as the battle raged around the city. In the skies, the Devilbeasts fought against the ships of the Sky-Sea Realm. The demons were losing on both fronts. The Devilbeasts were being overwhelmed by the ships and soon the Sky-Sea people would have total air superiority. On the ground, the situation was not much better. The demons were vastly outnumbered and the Sky-Sea armies had already broken through the outer defenses and were now pouring into the city.

As he watched everything fall apart around him, the king of the demons lamented about how this could have happened. Only a few years ago, it seemed like everything was going well. The latest advances in their equipment through the use of symbiotes had greatly improved the strength of their armies. They were holding back the Sky-Sea Realm. The humans looked to be on the verge of annihilation. Once the humans were defeated and their legacy shard claimed, it would then be possible to focus the whole effort on the Sky-Sea Realm and defeat them.

Alas, that was not meant to be. The humans had made inconceivable strides and the tide of the war was flipped in an instant. What had previously been foes that were trivial to deal with was now an existential threat. With the need to deal with the humans, the front with the Sky-Sea people had crumpled.

All of this led to their current situation. The capital was under siege and now it would soon fall. It seemed that the demons had lost their chance at victory. Now it would be either the humans or the Sky-Sea people who will win. The king had an idle thought about who he would prefer. The humans had indeed ruined all of his plans and caused the current situation, but the Sky-Sea people had been their eternal enemy.

The king quickly put those meaningless thoughts out of his mind as he looked upon the deteriorating situation. Even if all hope was lost, he would go down fighting. The king decided he would not die hiding away but would rather go down fighting. It was better to at least have some sense of accomplishment at the time of one's death.

The king of the demons was formidable in battle. He easily ripped apart the ordinary Sky-Sea warriors as they approached. His presence raised the morale of the demons and temporarily stabilized their lines.

Then, a massive creature descended in front of him. It was a creature of great presence and upon his arrival the Sky-Sea people redoubled their offensive and the demon lines began to crumble apart. He was the king of the Sky-Sea people, here to witness the final moments of the enemy they had fought for so long.

The Sky-Sea king spoke. "Well then, king of the demons. We stand here amidst the last remnants of your realm. To think that for so long we were foiled by you. Once your defenses fell it you were almost pathetic as we swept you away."

The demon king looked on with anger as the Sky-Sea king began mocking him.

"It seems that you and your whole race were indeed weak. In a fair fight you could never defeat us. How does it feel, knowing that after all these years you have lost. Completely and utterly lost." The Sky-Sea king laughed as he looked down upon the demon king.

The king of the demons erupted in anger. "You think you are so great. You couldn't take a step into our lands for hundreds of years! If it weren't for those damnable humans, we the demons would have been the ultimate victors. Your victory was nothing more than chance."

"These humans you speak of?" The Sky-Sea king had a sneer on his face. "Those puny flesh bags defeated you? You must be more pathetic than I thought. Once I deal with you, I will wipe out those puny creatures easily."

"You know nothing", the demon king spat. "Your arrogance will be your downfall."

The king of the Sky-Sea Realm laughed. "Arrogance? No, I am simply stating the truth. That we are superior. That is a truth."

The demon king looked at his counterpart in disgust.

The Sky-Sea king spoke once more. "You know, I only came down here today because I wanted to see your face as I finally stamp out what remains of your race. Look around you, your armies are no more and soon I shall rule everything. And it seems that you are even more pathetic than I imagined. Now, you will die and your legacy shard shall be mine."

The Sky-Sea king struck. The two of them fought with each other. Both were extremely powerful, but the Sky-Sea king held the advantage. Furthermore, they were now surrounded by the Sky-Sea king's guards who had quickly cleared out the surrounding demons. Those guards now jeered at the king of the demons and did little things to make the fight harder for him.

Finally, the demon king laid on the ground, greatly wounded. The Sky-Sea king stood over him with a smirk on his face. "Any last words?"

"You will lose in the end", the demon king spat.

"Lose?" The Sky-Sea king looked amused. "To who? The humans?" He laughed and pointed at the sky. "Look, there is one of their little contraptions. That little gnat buzzing around like a pest."

In the sky, a single plane was flying above. The Devilbeasts were too few and were too occupied to intercept it. The ships of the Sky-Sea Realm didn't consider it worth their time since they still had a real enemy to fight. After all, what could a single plane do.

The Sky-Sea king pointed at the plane. "Those puny things are of no threat to us. Allow me to demonstrate as I have it removed."

Through some signal, the Sky-Sea king ordered the ships to attack the plane. As the ships approached, a small speck dropped out of the plane and the plane suddenly turned around and began fleeing.

"How funny", the Sky-Sea king said. "It is almost looks like it was so frightened it lost control of its bowels and took a dump before running away as fast as it could." As he spoke, the ships surrounded the fleeing plane and destroyed it.

"As you can see, nothing can stand against us", the Sky-Sea king said.

The demon king wasn't too focused on what was being said. Rather, he was watching the thing that the plane dropped as it fell toward the city. The king knew that the humans didn't do things without a purpose. What could this single plane have been attempting with its suicide mission. Then, the answer hit him as he recalled what happened to his army.

The Sky-Sea king spoke. "Now, you will die by my hand."

The king of the demons laughed uproariously. The bomb fell and then, there was light.

When the planes had discovered the imminent battle between the demons and the Sky-Sea people, the news had been quickly relayed back to high command. Roland, Steven, Zero, and the rest of the command staff quickly discussed what to do.

It was too good of a chance to pass up. They only had one nuclear bomb left, and this was the best place to use it. It was quickly loaded up onto a plane and a volunteer was found to deliver it.

As a mushroom cloud rose over the ruins of the demon capital, the war was decided.
