65 Bombing Run

The Aerial Knights were assembled to carry out their task. The five pilots had a new mission. This time, they would fly their planes over Taquila to drop bombs. Their previous work had paved the way for this task and now they would be charged with delivering the knockout blow.

The Taquila witches asked to be the ones to drop the bombs, and their request was granted. Roland agreed to allow them to do so, not only because of sentimental reasons. The bodies of the God's Punishment Witches were stronger than a normal human and they would be able to toss out the bombs faster.

There were only five planes so only five of them could go. There were far too many of them and only five slots. The Taquila witches had debated this for a long time when the plan was first created and they decided to choose five among them to do the task. The five would be the ones to represent all of them. They would carry the hope and dreams of all of the witches of Taquila as they struck out against the demons.

When it was time for the aircraft to launch, all of the Taquila witches gathered to send them off. They gave their encouragement to the five who were entrusted with the task. It was an important moment for all of them.

From the back of a plane, Phyllis waved at her comrades. "Thank you for choosing me for this task", she yelled. "I will not disappoint you all. I carry the hopes and dreams of us all and I will show the demons our determination and our strength. Four hundred years later, we are back!"

There was a great deal of cheering as the planes got ready to take off. Roland had come to personally watch this as it would be the critical operation. He gave the order and the pilots prepared to take off.

The pilots weren't too involved with all of the drama the witches were going through. They had their job which was to fly over the city and then fly back while not getting killed by demons. It was a simple straightforward task and they had every confidence in completing it. If it would destroy the demons, then they were proud to be the ones to do it.

The runway crew began signaling and the engines of the planes started up and the propellers started to turn. As they began spinning faster and faster, the plane started moving forward.

Phyllis looked back, seeing her comrades all waving behind her as the plane lifted off the ground. Soon, the human encampment became smaller and smaller and Taquila grew larger as they approached.

She had been preparing for this for hundreds of years. Now that the time had finally came, she couldn't help but feel nervous. All of their work had culminated to this point and it was up to her and four others, plus the pilots, to carry it out. She was filled by nerve wracking excitement as the plane approached.

This would be the day they were waiting for. This would be the day that the demons would be driven away. She thought of her life up until this point. All the friends that had died, the countless years spent hidden. Now, she would be able to avenge those the demons had killed.

The demons watched as the planes flew toward their base once more. Ursrook, the commander of the demon forces at Taquila, gazed upon the approaching planes.

His assistant spoke. "Should we send the remainder of our Devilbeasts to intercept them, Lord Ursrook?"

"No", Ursrook commanded. "We have already seen that the Devilbeasts will be unable to deal with them. We have even less than we did yesterday. The humans are just trying to bait out the Devilbeasts. Sending them out will be the same as throwing them away."

"As you command, my lord." The assistant moved back.

Ursrook was thinking. Those humans have gotten quite interesting. Unlike 400 years ago, they now had many more weapons with devastating power. And now it looks like they have learned to fly without the aid of magic. It was fascinating.

"These flying machines will be a worthy opponent", Ursrook said. "They shall circle above us, taunting us to attack them. And when that happens, I shall strike at them personally."

Meanwhile, the planes continued to soar through the skies, heading toward Taquila. Even as they approached, there were no demons that came out to stop them. The planes were being completely ignored.

"It looks like the demons are totally scared of us", Merem murmured. "They don't even dare to show their faces."

"Indeed." The voice of Phyllis came from the back of the plane. "They have been bested by us and they know they cannot stand up to our strength. We shall crush them"

Finally, the planes had arrived over Taquila, Phyllis quickly began picking up the bombs and throwing them over the side after activating them. Her hands moved with great speed as plane's storage was quickly emptied. She saw her comrades doing the same.

As the bombs were being released, the planes began turning around. With their cargo unloaded, they began quickly flying back to base. Their mission was complete.

Ursrook watched as the planes came. He began heading up to meet them, eager to engage in a good fight. He was still only a bit off the ground when he saw the planes heading back. He frowned, annoyed that the humans had ran off. He thought that they would stick around for a few passes at least.

Then he saw something strange. It looked like there were things dropping out of the sky. He tried to take a better look as he saw some black objects falling toward the base. He wasn't quite sure what they were and he began moving closer to look.

Suddenly, his view was filled with a bright flash as flame consumed all.
