68 A Special Movie

Recently, Kajen Fels had his life thrown into turmoil. For decades he worked as a playwright, eventually becoming renowned for his excellent work. He had perfected his skill over the course of several decades and he had put much work into his theatre troupe.

It had once been his hope that he could continue this work as long as he could, until the day that he was too old to write plays. Fate it seems, had a different plan for him. There had been so many groundbreaking changes happening recently, from new weapons to new methods of production. The world of today would hardly be recognizable to someone who lived a decade ago. Theatre was no exception. The wheels of progress would turn and the art of the theatre would soon be supplanted by a modern form of entertainment - the magic movie.

The magic movie was an astounding invention, one that would change the face of entertainment forever. With the magic movie, the writers were able to communicate so much more to the audience, who could see the scenes in such vivid detail, as though they were there themselves. It quite literally sucked them in.

After watching the magic movie in Neverwinter, Kajen Fels came to the realization that in order to stay relevant, he would have to advance with the times. He was already quite advanced in age, but he was not afraid of change. Rather than scorn new advances, he embraced them. He too would make a magic movie.

He first approached King Roland, as Neverwinter was where the technology originated. However, he was told that there was no room for another production team and that they were focusing on making movies for political purposes so they had no resources to spare for his movies.

Kajen Fels was quite disappointed with this as he had really been looking forward to making a magic movie. The rest of his theatre troupe had decided to follow him in his endeavor, as most of them had been with him for so long and they looked for him for guidance in this new age. They were very angry with the response they got from Neverwinter and many of them blamed May for stealing their jobs but Kajen Fels silenced those complaints, stating that they only had themselves to blame for not seizing the opportunity.

However, he remembered the other offer that he received. Now that Neverwinter had rejected him, the choice was quite simple. He would go to Hermes.

He and his troupe packed up their things as they prepared to travel. They would go to Hermes and attempt to obtain patronage there. Kajen hoped that the offer given to him back then was still valid.

As they arrived Kajen Fels was quite nervous. This would be the last chance for him to be able to make a magic movie. He would need the support of a country since he had no idea how to make the movie and he suspected it wasn't something he could do by himself.

After they arrived, Kajen Fels was eventually able to obtain a meeting with Steven. Kajen was now feeling a bit more confident as it looked like he would actually be seriously considered. He was led to Steven's office and as he entered, he noticed a white haired witch standing beside Steven.

After the door closed, Steven spoke. "Mr. Fels, I presume that you are here because you wish to make a movie?"

"That is correct", Kajen Fels responded. "I hope that you will be able to support me with the resources and technical knowledge needed to make a movie."

"I will", replied Steven. "But I will have to ask that I set the topic of the first movie. I will require a very specific movie to be made. If you agree then after you make the first movie I will let you make more of your own. Of course, I may have other requests in the future."

Kajen thought about the proposal for a while. It would be the best chance he could get. In the past he had often made plays at the request of kings or lords so this was not an unreasonable demand for him. "I agree. What is the subject matter of the movie you requested? And does this movie have something to do with the lady besides you?"

"Indeed it does", said Steven. "It is going to be a propaganda movie. Come, I am going to introduce you to the people you are going to be working with."

Kajen was in thought as the three of them walked down the hallway. It looked like he would have to do a propaganda piece. Although it was not ideal, it looked like he was going to have to do it. In the past kings have asked him to make plays glorifying certain things, it seemed that this would be no different. However, he was curious about what this play was going to be about, and how it would involve that witch at Steven's side.

Finally, they entered a room. Inside were several witches who had been gathered here to help produce the movie.

Steven addressed the room. "It is time to begin the production of the first magic movie in Hermes. This is going to be a documentary movie, one based on the facts. Of course, some facts might be a bit embellished, but the movie is going to be shown as a truthful representation of events. The subject of this movie is going to be demon invasion of the Kingdom of Dawn. You will show the heroic actions of the army in driving back the demons."

Steven motioned to Zero. "She is the great war hero who saved the army during the decisive battle. She will be the star of the movie and her heroic actions are to be emphasized as much as possible."

After making the purpose of the movie clear, Steven began introducing the witches who would help to make the movie. Hermes didn't have the same witches that Neverwinter did but they had others who could solve the problems in a different way.

"This is Christina." Steven motioned to the first witch. "She can stop the progression of time for objects. The smaller the object, the longer she can hold the effect for. She will be used to pause the Sigil of Recording so that the scenes can be changed."

Steven introduced the next witch. "This is Amy. She can manipulate objects from a distance. Her job will be to animate props and have them move on their own."

"This is Jane." Steven pointed to the third witch. "She can create illusionary duplicates of objects. This ability will be useful in order to simulate a demon horde."

There were several other witches that Steven introduced, some of them helping with visual or audio effects.

Kajen Fels now had a new task. He knew that he would have to do it well, lest the church change its mind about supporting him.
