Despite her statement, that could be taken as being over possessive or crazy, it was definitely the sweetest and the most caring thing anyone had ever said to me before. I gently held her hand, which she briefly jerked back for a moment before allowing me to hold it.

"I am really sorry to have put you through that Edythe. Thank you for caring so much about me, it honestly means a lot more to me, more than you know. I will make it up to you one day, I promise." I said as I gently squeezed her hand.

"Just be safe and take care of yourself, you dummy." Edythe said while holding my hand tightly "That is all I need for you to make it up to me."

"Oh really?" I said with a fake thoughtful expression "and here I thought you might be up for a movie marathon date at my home, while you are there to take care of me, as a way of making it up to you. Oh well, if you don't want to then its fine."

Edythe playfully swat me with a small smile, "Nice way of turning it on me you dummy, despite the fact that you are probably more hopeful than me for the date."

"Oh well, what can I do if a beautiful girl wants to go on a date with me." I said with a mock self sacrificing tone "I can only bear the responsibility, as the responsibility as the representative of all males, and say yes."

"You are so full of yourself" Edythe gave a musical chuckle "No wonder you are safe in that accident, that big head of yours must have taken all the impact. Or maybe you got that big head from the accident itself."

I simply smiled while seeing Edythe with her smile back. I would do anything to protect that smile. I never wants to see that face deprived of her smile ever again.

Edythe brought me home and decided to stay over for the night. We watched some movies on the ridiculously huge flat-screen my brother had installed in the house.

However, nothing untoward happened between us, other than some light harmless flirting. I offered the bed to her in one of the guest rooms, since she seemed like she didn't plan on leaving me until I was back on my feet again, which she accepted after some hesitation.

She drove back to her home for a while to get some basic supplies, which I could understand. I prepared the guest bedroom before preparing a light dinner for Edythe and myself.

When she came back, she saw me putting some final touches to the meal and the table. I did not know how far she would be comfortable taking this 'date', so I just put a simple and sweet feel to the whole thing.

A basic square table covered with plain white cloth with some flowers I found in the garden arranged delicately in the vase.

The flowers I found were were on of the few different types I found in the garden. Out of them all I liked this particular one for tonight as they were called Stocks and represented bonds of affection.

The dinner was a light combination of a balanced salad and my own special recipe of curry rice, curry being slightly mild instead of overly spicy.

For dessert, I didn't make anything. Rather I took out two butterscotch pastries from my secret stash. My brother used to tease me for liking such things so much. So what , sue me for having a sweet tooth, I like my deserts.

Edythe was both impressed and exasperated at the setup I had prepared in the limited time she had been away. I could see her giving the food a tired look, did she not prefer curry or salad?

But since she did not say anything out loud I decided to not mention that I had noticed her expression. Just in case if she didn't like the food, I decided to gain gentleman points instead. I held the chair for her as she gracefully took her seat.

"So what brought this on?" She asked with an amused expression.

"Well I did promise you a date, didn't I?" I smiled back "besides, you are going out of your way to take care of me. The least I could do is make your stay be enjoyable."

"You do know that you are the one supposed to be injured?" she said with an exasperated shake of her head and took a bite from the salad "hmm, not bad."

"Thank you" I replied "Anyway, I am not straining myself. I promise to let you help me with any heavy work, but I have to at least to some of the things on my own, don't I?"

"Fine, but just take care okay" she said "otherwise what am I even here for?"

"Your wish is my command" I agreed with a smile "How is the curry?"

"Good, nice flavour" she said while scooping up another spoonful "Interesting choice of spices though. Not the usual type of combination one sees when having curry."

"Mm, my personal modification for a milder but more expressive flavour" I said "Glad you like it, cooking is one of my relaxation hobbies."

After we finished the main course, I tearfully parted with my pastries. Edythe laughed out like wind chimes at my teary expression, as I hesitatingly passed her the pastry with the smallest spoon I could find.

One should appreciate sweet things completely, even if I am not the one eating it. She spared no opportunity to tease me, eating the pastry with an exaggerated expression of satisfaction and pleasure.

This became my routine for the next few days. We could also skip school for a few days, since technically I had a report from Dr. Carlisle Cullen, which allowed me to 'rest and recover' supposedly.

Since Edythe was supposed to help me recover, I couldn't use my powers to just get better overnight. It would be hard to fool someone who had the direct line to the doctor who was treating me.

It was finally the last day of my 'recovery', and Edythe had brought some Caramel Custard to celebrate, something I had confessed to her being one of my favourite sweets.

My share disappeared pretty quickly while Edythe ate hers agonizingly slow, not to enjoy it but rather torture me. After she was satisfied with torturing me, we watched some cheesy and cliche horror movies that I had downloaded.

We had a set theme for each night I was in recovery, comedy in the first two nights, then it was romance for the next two, some drama and action after that and finally today it was horror night.

Halfway through the movie playlist, Edythe paused it and turned to me with a complicated expression. I turned to her with a puzzled reaction on my face in response to her action.

"Everything okay? Is it the movies? Should we stop or change to something else?" I asked.

She shook her head at that before replying "That is not it, the movies are okay. Hey, can I ask you something weird?"

"Sure go ahead." I replied.

"What if one day you wake up to find that all is not how it seems? What if all the supernatural stuff and things that go bump in the night were not just stories?"

"The places you knew, the people you trusted, all of it become more than what you knew. What if you find that there is dark side to the world that is deadly and unforgiving?"

"As a human, what would happen if the filter was removed from your eyes and you saw the world for what it is, a place filled with monsters? What would you do?" Edythe asked with a serious expression, her eyes gazing into mine as if searching something.

"Wow, that is a heavy scenario to imagine." I said seriously as I could sense the answer was somehow important to her.

"Well, if the world really changes like that, and if I really could not ensure the safety of my life, then I guess I would find people who could help me achieve that. But, I don't really think I will really need to be so frantic or drastic."

"I feel so because, if these so called monsters managed to hide so long from the public eye, means they are either in control of the whole world, or it means they are in control of their actions enough to never come in notice. In either case, there is nothing I can do personally?" I said with a shrug.

"So, would you hate the monsters for having cornered you like that?" Edythe asked softly, her voice feeling sad for some reason.

"Actually, I don't think I will hate them especially or even dislike them." I said as Edythe's head snapped up and her eyes locked on to me "We judge monsters for being monsters, but if one day comes that I am able to see the world of monsters, I think I will be ashamed of humans and our actions."

"Why so?" Edythe asked in surprise.

"Well, if in the world where monsters and supernatural things exist, humans still turn out to be a bigger source of problems, crimes and death, then I think humanity as a collective need to be ashamed." I said seeing a change come to Edythe's expression.

Not able to recognize why it was affecting her as such, I decided to continue,"Why classify monsters as something lower than humans, if humanity itself can't follow the ideals they preach? At least monsters are honest to themselves, They know what they are and accept it."

"Humans preach their ideals, while happily betraying, cheating, violating and destroying other humans lives for even a minor benefit in their own."

"Humanity's hands are stained in red so dark that even demons would be ashamed. Hence, if I am in a world where monsters are so powerful that they can kill a human in a heart beat, yet still try to cohabit with them, I think I would definitely give them a chance." I concluded and looked at Edythe.

I saw a soft smile grace her face, and for the first time I felt her completely relax around me, as if it was a breath she had been holding for a really long time and just exhaled.
