27 Mr. Wang spins on me

Slowly, Mr. Wang turned his eyes back towards me. Black fire blazes in their depths, daring me to disagree with him. What the hell? What kind of game is Mr. Bambang Wang playing?

It wasn't as if I was going to throw his hand off of me and walk out. For one, I selfishly enjoyed basking in the warmth of his body against mine, for two, he was my boss and my job probably depended on how I reacted right now.

I may not be the smartest one in this office, but I wasn't dumb and I sure as hell needed my employment right now.

"Oh, yes…" I finally manage to sputter, opening my mouth then closing it again.

I could think of nothing else to say, my mind racing on so wildly I can barely process what's happening. Mr. Wang narrows his onyx eyes, displeased with my inability to speak.

"You'll have to excuse her," He mutters, "Chunhua is rather shy and taken by surprise right now."

"Of course…" The man at the center of the table frowns, slowly standing up to walk around the table. He moves like a shark in his charcoal suit, his eyes slitted like a snake. He's possibly scarier than Mr. Wang, though much less handsome and rugged than the man whose arm is draped around me. A hand of the stranger's shoots out, a smile plastering across his face like that of a clown. Not the cute children's circus type of clown either, but the mass murdering psychopath kind. A shudder involuntarily ripples through my body and Mr. Wang's hand tightens against my shoulder.

Was my boss comforting me?

"Jack Chu." The man beams, bowing his head towards me as I timidly reached out to clasp my fingers around his.

I jump as our hands intertwine, startled by how ice cold his touch is. It's like holding onto ice cubes fresh from the tray. He lifts my hand up towards his mouth, lightly touching the back of my palm against his equally frosty lips while I struggle to keep disgust off my face.

"What a pleasure to meet you, Chunhua." He continues as I muster up the best smile I can and tug my hand away from his, almost searching out a space heater. The chill of his touch lingers on my fingers like the echoes of frostbite, "I can't help but notice you don't wear a ring." He adds with that fake smile he thinks will fool me into making a mistake.

I can feel my fake fiancé stiffen slightly, but I speak before Mr. Wang has a chance to.

"Like Mr. Wang said," I shrug, leaning a bit more into my boss's side, one hand sliding against his chest.

I can feel the lines of Mr. Wang's muscles under his shirt, taut and straining at the fabric, I swallow thickly, struggling to stay focused on what I was saying, "I'm quite shy about our relationship, I don't wear the ring at work."

For good measure, I add in a little giggle and cover my face with my hand as though even just having this conversation was difficult.

Jack nods slowly, and I hope he's accepting the little act that Mr. Wang and I have played for him. He looks towards one of the men at the table, who signals the others to start gathering their papers and supplies. While the flurry of rustling papers and pens echoes against the ultra white walls of the conference room, Jack once again smiles.

"This has been a lovely afternoon, Mr. Wang, thank you for introducing us to Chunhua. We had no idea you had the capability of holding onto something so… enchanting."

The way the man looks at me makes me shrink against Mr. Wang.

"I trust you will take the proper time to make your decision?" Mr. Wang asks, his voice a deep growl that makes butterflies go crazy inside my stomach, his arm tightening around me as if he was anchoring himself from doing something he'd regret to Jack.

For a moment the Mr. Jack pauses and I worry that Mr. Wang won't be able to contain his blatant irritation, but then he chuckles and once again nods. "I will, Mr. Wang. I certainly will. We will let you know soon what our choice is."

Mr. Wang releases me almost immediately, as though he's already forgotten my role in whatever important negotiation has just occurred. While these men are still here, however, I giggle and titter and smile like the shy little future wife that I should be, all while masking a pout. The moment the room has emptied of all but the two of us, however, Mr. Wang spins on me.
