5 Achievement Hunting #1

Saturday.

I´ve never been a long sleeper, more of an early riser I guess. I always hated when I went to bed like really late and couldn´t get up the next morning. That always felt like you traded a whole day for a longer day.

As always I get up and grab myself a coffee. I´m not sure when I started liking this bitter-ish drink but I´m sure as hell in love with it now. It brightens up my whole day and after I had my first drink and my first smoke of the day I know I can start getting to work now.

So yeah, I did just that opened my Journal again to have a closer look at that Quest page. My best course of action, for now, seems to just follow those to make more Coins. I´m not sure why I´d get a PC upgrade but this magical Journal seems to know more than I do. Best be prepared.

"So these are my new Quests, huh. They don´t seem to difficult for now. I didn´t think the Journal would add non-gaming related Quests as well. But then again, it also shows my body stats, which, I assumed at least, were good for my gaming experience overall.

At least with the Journal, I have a straight idea of what to do with my time. I always just got to work and spent my time playing video games.

First, let´s figure out what I wanna do. I could plant the plants straight away. I´m a bit into gardening so that shouldn´t be hard keeping them alive, just get them in a pot and put the inside.

It´s still freezing outside so I can´t do that for now. Maybe I just wait with that Quest until spring.

Although the Quest didn´t specify which plants to buy, so, technically, I could just get a couple of cacti and make my name as a cactus-collector."

I started giggling at myself silly again. The idea of me being called "Great cactus-collector" is really hilarious.

Anyway.

Since I didn´t want to do the planting right now I guess I start with the achievement one. I only have one week for both so I should pick 2 games that I can complete in this time.

I´m really rusty in the shooter department, as the Journal mentioned, so I should just pick the one I´m most familiar with. Or play the Blizzard one, but I guess that´s really bad as well since I'm not that good in that one and the skill ceiling seems really high.

*sigh* "This is way harder than the last one. Just playing through a game takes only a bit of effort. Getting all achievements is actually hard. I have a game in mind of the "Soulsborne" series, which I´m not bad at.

I even remember seeing an "All achievements speedrun" once, that took like 12ish hours. So completing that in a week should prove no problem.

What I´m concerned about is the shooter. I guess it all comes down to luck. There´s no way I have enough time to get my skill level to where it was again."

I keep contemplating as I make breakfast for myself. Just some basic Eggs and a bit of bread, for now, should do the trick.

Also, nothing beats playing video games after a nice long hot shower. So I went ahead and did just that.

After I was clean and fed it was time to start that Soulsborne game.

It´s a type of RPG that got a real huge attraction in 2012 for being "the hardest game", a lot of people made it out as if you needed some god-tier skill to beat it.

I was immediately hooked and wanted to challenge myself. Truth be told there was a point at about mid game where I couldn´t get past when I first played it. It´s a narrow bridge where 2 archers simultaneously try to hit you with huge arrows with knockback.

Once you get hit chances are pretty high that you fall off the bridge and die.

My silly, bad past self looked up a surefire method to get past those. The method in choice was using poison arrows to snipe the 2 archers from a safe point and let them die to the poison.

It worked but was tedious as fuck. Never doing that again.

So I fire up the game, pick mage because magic is OP in this game, kill the first boss, run past a couple of trash mobs, do the shortcut to get the magic teacher, level up my magic stats and beat the living hell out of the next 4 bosses.

After that, I looked up a guide online for the achievements. It´s not all that difficult, just takes quite some time. And since I´m by no means a badass in this game I kept dieing quite a few times between bosses.

Once you have the bosses down you it´s actually the easy part of the game if you take your time. Traversing the path is way more dangerous, with instant kill gravity and mobs grouping up on you while stunlocking.

Nothing is uglier than a group of skeletons, simultaneously hitting you with their rusty weapons until you die.

I got to about midway through the game, unlocking and upgrading weapons and magic, leveling my character until I could one shot every trash-mob with my magic.

Now it´s basically a boss rush. The first obstacle was a duo boss fight, where you kill one and the other one absorbs the deceased ones power to get stronger.

It´s finicky, trying to get a good opportunity to kill one while both of them try to smack your head with the weapons.

One particular scene still sticks in my mind:

I just had a sliver of health left. My Ring that doubles my attack damage triggered and both of them were rather healthy. I just wanted to call this try a day when my survival instinct kicked in. I never give up until it´s too late.

So I start focusing. Both of them charge straight at me. I block the first attack with my shield which takes away almost my remaining health. It was quite lucky that I didn´t get staggered after the hit because that would have spelled certain death.

The big one tries to come for me with his shoveling attack which has a really ugly hitbox. I rolled past that one just in the nick of time. I unlock my camera, which I previously had locked onto the small one, turn around and take a free aim with my strongest spell onto the small one.

Miraculously that one hit him and I take him down to his last hit.

I know that I don´t have enough time to heal now and even if I healed I´d had to shoot him 2 more times and I only had one cast of the strong spell left. So I kept myself on low health for now. After it´s only one it´s basically a free kill.

I run further away to reset them both. Smalls charged at me which I swiftly dodged again. I could feel my blood boiling. Close calls pump my pulse up to double the normal value and I get really shaky.

I bait another attack from the big one out who came charging at me again. I make him stuck on a pillar and know I have a bit of leeway with him now.

I look out for smalls but I couldn´t find him. With intuition rather than sight a roll away, just at the right time so that he didn´t hit me. I knew it was now or never so I charge up my spell and killed him.

Big boy absorbed smalls power and I took the time to heal. All the fight came down to now was a small exploit to his AI. When you are far enough away all you have to do is run straight at him and he´ll jump over you, swinging where you started running.

That´s the perfect opportunity to strike him.

So I did that like 30 times until he was dead.

One less achievement to worry about, like 50 more to come.
