16 Survival Quests ~ part 01 ~

~ Conor and Reno ~

"Follow me brother.. We're going to teleport!" said Reno as he walked into the hallway. The hallway was filled with old pictures and bookshelves.

From the amount of books in the house, it was clear that the house was of an educated family.

"What are all these books?" asked Conor from Reno, as they walked through the long hallway.  There was a staircase leading up to the second floor.

"Aren't they amazing.. Draco's whole family was a family of vampires. The Longwood family has been living in this house for generations.. Those books were written by them as vampire codexes." answered Reno.

"Ohhh.. could be useful for Hannah.." said Conor thinking about Hannah. Reno smirked at Conor. "Mhmmmm.."

Suddenly, Reno came to a stop in front of a door. "This way," he said as he opened the door and walked in.

Conor went in through the door. There was a staircase leading down to a basement. Reno walked down and stopped at the end of the staircase.

He pressed a switch on the wall and the basement lit up.

The stairs were wooden too. The whole house was made from hardwood. The basement was dusty and filled with spiderwebs. Each step they took, the floor creaked.

Conor took a look around. It was a weird place. There were some burnt out sandalwood sticks and some tools. There wasn't much space in the basement but it was filled with various kinds of things.

"So how do we teleport?" asked Conor, because there wasn't anything around that looked like a gateway.

"The same way you do, idiot! Don't expect us to have a teleporting cupboard or something.." said Reno with an expressionless mood.

"Eh.. ok.." said Conor and waited for him to cast the spell.

"And one more thing! Why the hell did we come here??" asked Conor outraged by the mindless act.

"To get a teleportation stone you idiot! And calm down!" Reno screamed back at the boy. Then he ducked down and pulled off a small box from the bottom of the wooden shelf lying in front of the staircase.

Then he opened the wooden box and got 3 small stones which were emitting a green light.

"Here.." said Reno, handing the boy 3 of the stones. "Do you need these to teleport?" asked Conor, confused by the stones.

"Yes brother.. I cannot travel like you do.. I learnt the magic you see, I didn't earn it through artifacts.." answered Reno.

"Ohhh.. I'm new to this. I don't know much anyway.. hehe.." said Conor to the man. "So.. what do you need me to do with this?"

Conor was confused. He didn't know what to do with the stones.

"Well.. place them somewhere you won't drop them.." said Reno, placing hands together.

"And.. where are we going?" asked Conor again. He was so confused.

"A place where we can curse a life, to complete the quest." said Reno looking at Conor. Conor's white hair and the white leather overcoat matched him very well.

"Come closer.."

As Reno placed his hands together, he closed his eyes. The wind started to swirl around him. Suddenly they were surrounded by the large swirl.

*ZWOOOOSHHH*

With a green spark they disappeared.

Conor opened his eyes again. They were in front of a large building. There was a large sign beside the house.

[ Oak Springs : Elderly Care ]

It was an elderly care. The elderly care was on the middle of the main road to Lumborne city. The place was surrounded by the large woods that spread afar.

But there was enough space for the old people to spend a leisurely life at Oak Springs.

"Come on quickly!" said Reno as he sneaked into the cover of a large bush. They were inside the gates of the elderly house.

There were 2 security guards, checking the people who came through the gates. It was night, so it was easy to hide from the eyes of those old men.

Conor quickly rushed to Reno and hid under the bush with him.

"What the fuck is this?? We're sucking the souls of innocent old people??"

Conor was enraged. *How can he do this? This motherfucker is a friggin monster!!* Conor thought, looking at the man.

"Yes.. and if you have a better idea, tell me.." uttered Reno, cursing the boy inside his head. *Turns out this freak is too kind to get into the hunt!* thought Reno looking at the furious boy.

"I do! Let's kill some criminals! Some thieves! Some good for nothing ass holes! Not goddamn innocent people!!"

Conor started to scream at the man, his tone getting louder and louder as he got angrier.

"Shut the fuck up boy! The guards will hear you and then we're both dead!!" yelled Reno back to the boy. Reno was outraged by the boy's act.

*What the fuck is he thinking! Back at the house, he talked like he was prepared for anything!*

"Fine! fine! Let's kill some old people!" accepted Conor finally giving up on the argument with Reno.

"That's right! Shut your fucking mouth and let's complete our survival quest or we're dead!" whispered Reno, making his tone lower and lower.

Both of them were hiding under the bush so they weren't spotted by anyone yet. An old man roamed around at the entrance to the building, with a torch in his hands.

"Now how to escape that?"

Conor asked as if it was impossible. "Bruh.. it's a friggin old man!" yelled Reno. This time the sound reached the old man's ears and he suddenly turned around startled.

"Oh shit!"

The old man walked to the bush with his torch shining on the top of the bush. It was only a matter of minutes until both of them got caught.

"Quickly give me your hand!" said Reno, pushing forth his hand. "What?" asked Conor, getting a little suspicious at the moment.

The guard got closer and closer. Then he caught a glimpse of Conor's white jacket.

"Oiii!!! You!! Who's there!!" yelled out the guard, turning the torch into the direction of Danny.

"Oh shit!" said Conor as he quickly grabbed Reno's hand. Suddenly both of them disappeared.

The old man shone the torch upon the bush. There was nothing suspicious there. "Huh? My daughter's right! I am seeing things!" said the old guy and walked away.

*PHEW!*

The 2 mages were relieved. Thanks to the magic, they managed to escape the guard.

"Let's move quickly! My mana will run out! Invisibility takes up too much mana!!" uttered Reno and they slowly started to move in, through the doors of the building.

[ Mana: 450/500 ]

Reno could see his mana decreasing quickly. As they went into the building the auto door opened. Although they were invisible to the naked eye, their presence could still be felt by the sensors.

After getting in, it was the easy part. You just have to pull the curse on a human and get going again. But deep down, pulling the curse was the hardest thing.

"Look for room 45," ordered Reno to Conor. Conor did as he ordered.

Both of them were invisible so it was easy to get past the caretakers. One or two of them marched around the hallway, from time to time.

"39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45!"

"I found it," said Conor who was counting down the rooms.

"Good job kid.." said Reno. Then, they waited until the caretakers cleared up. The hallway of Oak Springs was well lit. There were 24 hour active security cameras guarding the hallways.

If Reno and Conor ran out of mana, they would be caught right away.

After about 2 or 3 minutes of waiting, the caretakers cleared up. Now the hallway was empty. But the active security cameras were still focused on the hallway.

"Slowly open the door.." whispered Reno to Conor. "But.. the fucking cameras!" panicked Conor.

"Trust me, you gotta trust me if we're going to play this game together.." pleaded the man. Conor thought for a second. Then he nodded.

"That's my good boy.. open it.."

Conor slowly turned the door knob and the door slowly opened. As the door opened, enough to get themselves in, they got in and closed the door.

There was an old man sitting on the bed, watching an old late night drama. He looked like he was a sick man. He had a wheelchair next to his bed.

The old man was just staring at the old drama without a wonder of the world. One could say that he was a mentally unhealthy person by his looks.

"That's your soul to suck Conor. Make the poor bastard go to a better life.." said Reno pointing at the old person.

Conor didn't have the guts to do it, but he didn't have guts to resist the system either.

He summoned his staff and stood right in front of the old man. The old man looked at him. Conor's eyes lit up with the purple fire as he held his staff up to suck out the soul of the man.

"Are you the devil.. has my time come?" asked the old man.

Conor was speechless. But after his system was activated, he couldn't stop his thirst for blood.

Last week he had sucked the soul of a thug the same way he was going to now. It wasn't new to him. But yet it was equally depressive.

He held up his staff and the man's eyes were fixed to the staff. Suddenly, a black smoke started to come out from his nostrils and his mouth.

[ Survival Quest completed ]

Then the man suddenly fell back to his bed, dead as a dead corpse. Killing the innocent and helpless man, Conor couldn't bear the pain.

"Well done boy.. That man, he was a drug dealer for half of his life.. he deserved to see the eyes of a real devil.." said Reno and placed his arm on Conor's shoulder.

Reno slowly turned around and looked at the picture on the desk. It was a picture of the old man's youth. There was a name written on the picture.

[ Oscar Hotman ]

*It was time for you, uncle* Reno thought looking down as a tear ran down his cheeks. Then he snapped his fingers.

*ZWOOSH*
