2 Chapter 2
By the time Amara Li had returned to her dorm, she noticed the remaining 2 beds in her room were occupied. Two girls who seemed to know each other had become her roommates, this was starting to make her feel more left out than usual.
After a brief introduction, she found out that Nan Yu and Arya Si were girls who had been classmates in their senior year of high school. Nan Yu was a short, slightly dusky extremely skinny girl. She was also quite one of the two and only spoke a few words when spoken to.
Arya Si, on the other hand, was the exact opposite. She was talkative, tall, quite hefty and a very fair girl.
It was well past 6 when everything was settled in and it was time for Amara's parents to leave.
After a quick send off Amara ran back into her room. She had known that if she stayed any longer than a few mins with her parents saying her bye she would try.
Holding back her tears she decided to get busy and find activates to divert her mind.
She went and took a shower and went for a walk around the girls' dorm trying to take in all the spaces of her new home. She meet a few other girls who had joined with her in other branches of engineering but none of them were from her branch. She was slightly surprised by it, while she expected that Electrical engineering would have fewer girls than other departments. But, She had never imagined the possibility that she might be the only girl in a class of 60 boys.
After a while, she went to her room to get some sleep. Lying in bed she continuously was tumbling and moving around.
Sleep had never come easy to Amara, she always slept very little at most 7 hours on a good day. Lying in bed she heard her roommates talking and gossiping about all their experiences.
She was not involved she was a silent spectator to this conversation.
She had always been social and this weird feeling of being alone was new and finally, she let her emotions take over let the tear roll down her face.
At some point in her crying sprint the previous night Amara Li had managed to doze off. She woke up with the sun hitting her face. It was 7 am, today was the first day of orientation.
Amara Li decided to wear something simple, Something that would not attract too much attention.
She picked a simple black Tshirt with a Red Midi Skirt. She paired it with her favorite LV backpack and some sneakers. Amara had always preferred comfort over all else and the way she dressed was an ode to that.
Her make up was simple, in the humid beachy location of her university any make she put on would only irritate her skin. Plus, she had never felt she needed any. With only some lip balm on her lips and her hair styled in a neat ponytail she started for the building where all 1st year Engineering graduates were supposed to report.
After a quick walk, she arrived at a building completely in Chaos with 100s of students confused looking at sheets of paper to see where they were supposed to report. After long crazy few mins, she found out that all Electrical students were supposed to report to room no 108.
She walked into Room 108 with both excitement and fear. Amara Li had arrived only to find a room of 20 people which was supposed to have 120, there were 3 girls all seated in the first row and 17 boys.
Slowly other students started pouring in, mostly guys with a girl or two arriving at random. After 1 hour the room was full, with around 20-25 girls in a pool of 120 students. The gender ratio was shocking.
Then the professor in the room stood up and announced that there are going to be 2 sections for this class, A & B. They started calling out from lists to identify students and assign sections.
Amara Li's name was only the second one, She was in Class A. They asked her to fill a form and sent her to the classroom assigned to Class A.
Around 15 mins later 30 students came in all boys, another 10 mins later 5 more boys and 2 girls walked in. In the end in a class of 60, there were 4 girls and 56 boys.
At this moment Amara knew she would have to fight for her place, recognition, and respect in this class.
