24 Before the Invasion pt.2

<The next day>

I was getting ready to go on a little stroll. I picked up my phone and sent a message to Nick saying two words.

I quit.

They had nothing to give me now that they're base is gone along with lots of technology and systems, they were useless now. They were probably in a panic right now as well.

I walked out of my house with my skateboard and just rode down the street. The sun hasn't come up yet and I liked these type of rides. The wind and air would always be perfect.

I was listening to "Green Light-Rod Wave" while rolling down the street. I made a turn to the left and I saw a cafe with the light on.

"How come I never seen this place?" I thought strangely and rode to it. It was a small place and gave off the old feeling. The aura around it was cozy and like a far home.

Walking in I left my skateboard outside and looked around for some service. I walked further in to a seat and saw that no one was upfront. I raised my hearing and heard someone shuffling around the back.

'I knew I wasn't dumb. Where the hell is the bell by the door. What if a group of rapist just walked in or just some random vandalizers.' Thinking this I had to raise my voice higher than normal.

"Excuse me!" I said. My voice was slightly loud and the shuffling stopped and I soon saw someone coming to the front desk.

It was a mature woman with tan skin a big chest, from her hips she has an hourglasses figure and had blue eyes like the ocean. She had black hair as well.

She looked like an older version of the new girl. Her name was Viviana. She looked at me with a smile and walked over to my table.

"It's rare for someone as young as you to be up so early. Perhaps you know my daughter?" She said teasingly

I looked unfazed with her teasing. She sighed and took out a notebook and pen.

"What would you like? Today we have a vanilla mocha with apple ice." She said with a smile.

"I would like that and your pecan pie as well." I said eying the desserts. The cafe was a nice place to get real food, but these desserts looked amazing.

They could be pictures off the internet though, so I took it upon myself to taste this rather than go look around for an opinion. She nodded happily and walked off. I was right by the way. She had nice thighs and legs.

I mentally sighed and got my phone that has been vibrating for a while now. I knew it was either SHIELD or Natasha.

Getting the phone from my pocket I looked at the messages.

'What do you mean quit?'

'Answer the phone'

'We gave you everything you have right now you owe us this.'

At that I looked confused.

'Didn't I work for this?' I thought.

I texted back stating facts.

'1. I can quit when I want, our agreement was that I work with you in return for tech. You obviously don't have anymore tech other than that helicarrier, but it doesn't have anything I want on it.

2. You didn't just give me a damn thing, I worked for it for years to get were I am.

3. I don't owe you nothing, since when have you done me a favor. Never, so I owe you nothing.' I sent that and my phon stopped buzzing.

....

"Here is your order." Said the woman who is obviously Vivianas' mom.

"Thank you." I said plainly

"You don't sound thankful at all." She sighed and walked off. Owners who talk to their customers like casuals or friends are always good owners.

I took a sip of the Coffee and was completely taken aback by the taste. It was sweet and sugary, but at the same time wasn't overbearing. The vanilla was helped mask it and made the coffee go down smoothly.

I breathed out with my eyes closed and a small smile. I then took my spoon and cut off a piece of the apple pie. I eat it and felt complete bliss flood into my body. The apple in the pie was tart and crisp. The syrupy inside gave it a weird texture that was oddly satisfying. It was sweet, but that sweetness balanced out the tart and crisp of the apple.

I sunk into my seat and it was like my surroundings vanished. I heard the door open and a giggle that brought me back to reality.

"You." An oddly familiar voice spoke out, but I can't put my finger on who's it was.

"Do I know you?" From all this bliss I just experienced I forgot her name, but it was Viviana that spoke.

"I'm Viviana." She said looking at me blankly. I nodded and went back to eating.

"What are you doing here?" She asked. I guess she can't see me obviously eating here.

"I'm enjoying myself." I said and took a bite of the pecan pie.

The sun had just risen, so I guess she didn't expect anyone to be here.

"You know each other?" Asked her mom from the counter.

"Not really."

"Yeah."

We answered differently in sync and her mom looked confused.

"Mom this is Eren. Eren this is my mom Ashley."

"Why are you introducing me like that." I said strangely.

'How did she get my real name?' I thought strangely.

"It was the first thing that came to mind." She said frustratedly. Her mom watched with a teasing smile and Viviana ran to the back to get something I guess.

Her hair was curly at the end and was down. She wore a long sleeve grey shirt that stuck to her figure. She had on blue jeans and vans.

"Can I get the check?" I asked calmly. Ashley raised an eyebrow.

"Sure, but aren't you going to wait?" She asked writing the price in her notebook.

"She never asked me to. We also don't know each other like that." I said. She hummed and gave me the check.

It was barely over three dollars. I tilted my head slightly wondering how they maintain this place with such low prices.

"We don't really need the money I just like making desserts and cooking in general." She said sound smug and proud.

"Hm. Me too, I like cooking at the cafe around the corner. I was taught, by someone there." I said looking through my wallet in the ones section. I was a perfectionist and I liked to be organized. My wallet is divided into sections like a file cabinet.

"You work there?" Asked a Vivianas' voice from the doorway behind the counter.

"Yeah."

'I did just say that right?'

"Well I need to get going." I then walked out and got my skateboard. Just seconds later Viviana walked out too.

'It's crazy living like this while in just a day or two the Chitauri will come and fuck this place up.' I thought. I was about to kick off the ground when she was next to me.

"Do you not like me or something?" She suddenly asked. I don't know why she thought that way.

"When did I say that." I asked. We started walking.

"Well your tone always sounds annoyed when you talk to me and you try to leave fast. You talked more to my mom then to me." She said.

"This is my tone with everyone, I don't like talking much, and I have things to be done." I voiced my answer and got on my skateboard and rode off.

...

<The school>

I'm currently in my third period and the teacher had to call a substitute, because she is sick. Now I'm bored in the only class I looked forward to. The substitute just said we can do what we want as long as we're quiet, but we can't mess with the chemicals.

"Guess I don't have to be here then." I muttered.

"Your leaving?" Viviana said. She was my seat partner since no one wanted to be by the most hated.

She was looking into the microscope and didn't stop to look at me. I just nodded and picked up my bag.

"You don't think she'll let you just walk out right?" She said laughing a bit.

"What can she do about it?" I asked getting my books and putting them in my bag.

"You'll get at most a suspension." She looked at me like I was dumb.

"So what?" I said getting up and walking to the door.

"WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!?" Yelled the substitute. I just kept walking with her yelling things about me getting expelled or whatever.

Then more kids started pouring out of the classroom. They spread out running the halls like their being sneaky.

I had nothing to do and the school boring. I wanted some more of that pie as well. A blissful expression came over my face. Then I heard someone yell.

"BRIAR YOU BETTER COME WITH ME." It was the principal and a few of the officers. They already had their hands on the taser.

'Maybe I could release my boredom on them.' I thought and started "running" away. They chased after me and we were seen running around the school. Some other officers and teachers joined in the chase, but they got tired trying to catch me.

.....

We've been running around the school for about two hours now. They started planting teachers and willing students around the corners of the hallways.

It actually turned into a game and people were recording me being chased and dodging the people who tried catching me.

The principal said whatever teacher catches me will get a raise and the teachers said whatever students catch me will pass for the semester.

I don't even know why they made such a big deal out of it. I'm just one student surly they can let it slide. We continued running the hall for another hour till it was time for lunch.

At that point everyone gave up and just went to where they were supposed to be. They were panting and musty and sweaty, but they were smiling looking at me. They looked disgusting.

I walked past them weaving through the people that tried to catch me and walked into the cafeteria. I grabbed a lunch and went to the biology room.

Natasha wasn't here for obvious reasons, so we would have another substitute. I walked into the room and Viviana was in a thick biology book.

"How was you field day Eren?" She asked still reading her book.

"I've been meaning to ask how did you get my real name?" I asked looking at her weirdly.

"I heard your real name from the girls that gossip about you. They say that if you had a better reputation they would definitely do it with you." She said still reading.

A small sneer made its way on my face before it went back to its normal stoic expression.

"I don't care about that nor them. They can go have sex with as men as they want as long as they don't bother me." I said plainly.

"So you don-.."

Viviana was talking, but her desk was bugging me so I interrupted her.

"Fix that."

"Fix what?"

"Fix that pencil on your desk. How do you have all of your pencils with the eraser up, but one with the lead up. That doesn't make since." I said slightly irritated.

Me being a perfectionist turned into a big case of OCD. I can stand it most of the time, but the fact that her desk in neatly organized except for that one pencil hits a nerve I didn't know I had.

"It's just a pencil. Honestly I don't see how you have the energy to even stand up. From the videos on YouTube, you didn't even break a sweat and you weren't even breathing hard."

"I was keeping a steady pace to preserve energy and it was boring. It stopped being fun after about fifteen minutes." I said taking my seat.

"What are you working on?" I asked. This time she wasn't messing with her blood, but looking in a book and she looked focused.

'This is the first time I've ever been interested in what other people are doing. Maybe I should start my training again.' I thought with a sigh.
