When Greene unlocked the car, Jest slid into the passenger seat. They didn’t talk much on the darkening drive to the outskirts of the city and then beyond to Holdens’ place. Jest told the other man where to slow, turn and finally park behind the main house—lit up now as the group filed in for the decompression session that had become almost a tradition.

“You don’t have to come in if you don’t want to. I’d better, though. We always talk over the latest gig and plan ahead and stuff. That’s my place out there.” He waved in the general direction of his little trailer near the sheds. “It’s never locked, so you can go on in. I’ll be out in a while.”

Greene hesitated. “Will they think it’s odd or okay, the rest of the group?”
