1 Prologue
Considered to be the tears of gods, gemstones hold the secret that every cultivator strives to discover. The secret of immortality. Gemstones or more commonly known as Spirit Stones are connected to the elements, and are thought to be what hold the universes tapestry together. The people have long since held Spirit Stones in high regard for the power they bestow on the ones called cultivators. The Ancient ones believed that the gods of this world, the yin's of night and the yang's of day, have been at war with each other since the very beginning.
The reason for this war has been lost to the hands of time, but the solution to this war has been laid clear for all human kind. The yin's proposed a bet. The rules were clear, the yangs were to create the perfect species in 24 days and the yin's had 24 hours to destroy them. The yangs agreed almost immediately, with the amount of time they had they believed they could create a power house. Modeling their species after themselves they began arrogantly preparing for their speeches of victory and their condolences to the yin's. Unbeknownst to them the yin's decided they would also create something. They created disease, famine, sorrow, and pain. They then placed these into a nice silk pouch and patiently awaited the day this war would be settled.
Finally the day came, all the gods were reminded of the bet and it's rules. The yangs haughtily revealed there "perfected" species they called humans, and placed them around the Earth. Then the leader of the yin's Gao Cui went and walked around the earth spreading the yin's own creation of despair and destruction. Within the early hours of the morning chaos befell the earth and humans. No human lasted 12 hours much less 24. When the 24 hours had ended the bet had ended in favor of the yin's. The yang's tears rained down and were buried deep in the earth. These tears were not tears of compassion and empathy for the humans, the were tears of anger humiliation and betrayal.
When all of the gods left the youngest one remained, his name was Hao Ai, he took pity on the humans and used his life to remake the lives that had been lost. The Hao Ai's last remaining bit of life force buried in to the earth core and became mana the flowed around the Earth's atmosphere.
As time went on the human population grew and grew. The discovery of Gemstones (aka. The gods tears) was made and the Gemstones were renamed Spirit Stones. These Spirit Stones gave people powers and strength. The weaker humans flocked to safety of more powerful humans. Empires were made, empires were toppled. Those who yearned to discover and grow more with Spirit Stones, they flocked together and created sects. Cultivators believed that if they reached peak cultivation they could become gods themselves. That is what all cultivators strived for.
