9 Heading Back

Shrieks and curses were echoing inside the underground cell. The whole place was ravaged beyond recognition and covered in both black and red blood.

Observing this, Jay thought that his plan worked a little too well as everything has gone to plan.

What plan? Of course, it was to get rid of that Dr.WhatsHisName.

Jay is a man who, although incredibly intelligent, acts almost entirely based on his emotions. Therefore he decided to kill the doctor the second he sensed the others slight killing intent.

Though, if he can, he will try to kill his prey in a way that doesn't lead back to him.

Just like in this case.

The moment he walked through the destroyed wall, he immediately saw two groups struggling against the remaining demonized.

On the left were Dr. Moris and the other half nobles desperately fending off against the last elite. By the looks of things, their group was just on the verge of having their elemental shield from breaking down.

Dr. Moris was even severely injured! Since the shield was relying on him the most, every time the power of destruction hit the protection, some would pass through. Also, the one operating the shield would suffer the most backlash when it breaks down, aka Dr. Moris.

On the right were Linda's and Lucy's unsteady figures plus Adam to the side, all holding the other half of the demonized group.

The reason that they were unsteady was not for fighting but instead because of soreness. The one to blame was Jay. He looked at their wobbly figures and grimacing faces and silently praised them in his mind for even be able to stand today.

As for Dave?

His lifeless body was lying between both parties in a puddle of blood and piss from the researchers.

The only reason that his girls and Adams were alive was that the last elite demonized was currently going after the Docter and his researchers. After all the fighting, there were only six demonized left, with an elite being one of them. Only three soldier level demonized were going after Linda and the rest.

"BANG! BANG!"

Two simultaneous explosions went off at almost the same time. One was Dr. Moris's, and the other was Linda. Both of their defensive measures broke at the same time. At that moment, Lucy sent a strong, yet silent spiritual fluctuation towards the now unconscious and severely injured doctor.

"We're dead!" Everybody thought, not bothering about the fallen doctor. Only Jay looked at the scene with a small smirk. Lucy had no choice but to put all her hope on Jay's seemingly crazy orders.

With a roar, all the demonized launched their final attacks to their despairing victims—cruel and excited expression on their faces. To bad though, they already outlived their use to Jay.

"RA-TA-TA!"

With six rapid shots, six corpses fell from the air with their still wild expressions on their face. Everyone was shocked by the sudden death of the demonized. Everyone then turned to look at the 'exhausted' Jay, who was still shakingly holding onto his revolver.

"Are they dead?" Someone stupidly asked. Well, maybe it's normal for someone to be shocked when they got a second life when they expected death. Only after seeing the bloody holes in the skulls of the demonized did they sigh in relief.

"Dr. Moris!" Someone finally remembered. They did a quick check and were relieved when they found that he was just unconscious. Of course, what they didn't know was that Lucy sent a powerful spiritual attack the moment his shield went down. He was sleeping, but he'll never wake up.

Everyone was too exhausted to bother thinking about how Jay could kill the demonized in such a manner. Demonized have strong instincts and would immediately have been able to sense Jay, but they didn't. Only Adam realized that Jay shouldn't have that level of power, and if he did, he would be in a higher ranking team.

He chose to be silent for the time being.

They didn't know that Dr. Moris was brain dead, so they proceeded to move his body and all of their belongings into the armored trucks outside. While transporting the research materials, Jay casually took the results of their research. But the thing was, as Jay opened the black box holding all of their hard work and scrummaged through it, nobody seemed to notice. Researchers walked by without noticing or went towards the truck only to be dazed then go somewhere else. Even Lucy, who was a bit further, was constantly moving and looking around, trying to find Jay, who seemed to have vanished.

This was Jay just using a bit of his real power. Nobody could see or sense him.

Looking through the research material, Jay understood what they were doing and how implanting an innate skill would be done. They would first find a blank slate (someone without any innate skills or bloodlines) then infuse the bloodline that has their desired innate skill. After that process succeeds, or if it does, then they start to engrave the rune of the innate skill into the subject's sea of consciousness.

Changing one's bloodline and engraving a rune into someone's sea of consciousness are both things that are both incredibly difficult to do. All the people from the village died, yet not more than one successful subject might have been made.

Thinking thus far, Jay put all the documents and materials back inside the box while silently wondering where the successful subject was. He already memorized the super complex spell required to make people with innate spells.

Only half nobles were walking around, finishing packing up. Jay scoffed as he walked behind Lucy, who was anxiously waiting in the truck with the sleeping Lucy on the floor. She overworked herself and passed out.

There were only half-bloods around, but they wouldn't report back to their superiors without having concrete evidence. Then thinking about all of this, Jay sneered in his mind as he looked into the group of half nobles.

He suddenly embraced Linda, causing her to yelp but soon relax when she noticed that it was just Jay, although he looked even more mysterious as she couldn't figure out how he got behind her. Adam silently looked away with cold sweat covering his back.

Soon everything was packed up, and one truck was used to transport Jay's team, while the others kept the researchers. After they communicated with HQ and explained the situation, the vehicles automatically started and soon after drove back to level 3 Tres Frontier City.

On the drive back, Adams sat towards the back while Jay sat with the still sleeping Linda in his embrace and Lucy by his side. Jay was currently in thought, thinking about the new spell that the nobles had made. Jay was pretty confident that one of those half nobles was a successful product from research.

Jay laughed in his heart when he first read through the research details. They said that it was to build an army of elites, but Jay knew nobles better than most. He knew that they had a fertility problem that was currently threatening their overall population.

If they wanted to make a group of specialized elites, then why use their bloodline? They only advantage they had was that their elemental attributes aligned towards the holy aspect. The only had an advantage over demonized, but demonized were now bring hunted down viciously, keeping their numbers to an all-time low.

In short, making more members with noble bloodline was pointless. That is unless they are trying to stabilize their diminishing numbers. There are currently more half-blooded nobles than pure-blooded ones for a reason.

The nobles have been trying to solve their problems for years now. Making more of their kind was just a temporary solution; their kind is hated too much for them to last if they just try to convert others.

Nobles are only the top faction because they came into the war against demonized late and that they had an elemental advantage against demonized. By the time that demonized were no longer a threat, all other factions were in a weakened state, letting the nobles shamelessly gain superior control.

"Oh nobles, in the end, you're nothing but failed products." Jay murmured.

In Jay's eyes, nobles are shortlived idiots. All other large factions think the same. Although they don't have the numbers to go against nobles at the moment, it doesn't mean that they won't in the future. This is the reason why nobles are desperately trying to increase their numbers.

Though, maybe even the large factions don't know their dark secret. While the remaining forces of different races, although weaker than in their past, are still able to survive until this point. The war against the demonized beast has only ended for about 20 years or so, but the war itself lasted for over 50 years.

For the first time in a long time, many powerhouses that have lived for thousands of years, died by the hand fulls. Powerful groups could only defend their homelands, while some species were wiped entirely into extinction.

In only 50 years, the entire world was plunged into chaos. Fifty years is only a fraction of a powerhouses life span, yet more of them died in these 50 years than in the last ten-thousand.

Jay couldn't help sighing as he thought about how many old monsters died in that short amount of time. Even he, who could be considered a super-genius, might not have survived long during that time. He was only born during the end of the great war.

But then again, he believes that his birth time was intentional.

'Hais, thinking about all this is pointless at the moment.' Jay thought.

"All right, get out and report to your superiors!"

The mechanical doors on the trucks opened up as a phoenix worker yelled at Jay's group. Outside the doors, a vast square building complex stood in front of them like an iron fortress. A large rustic looking city laid in the background as chemical fog gently swayed above and dim lights spread throughout like fireflies in the dark.

Jay finally arrived back to Tres, a Level 3 city fortress. He's finally capable enough to come back, strong enough to confront the dark past he ran away from all those years ago.
