3 Companion of sorts

Since Demons have no mothers or actual families, and most of them don't live past their 4th year, they don't have a personal house to dwell in until either their 5th year or a clear position as a true Demon of Hell.

Until then, they are forced to live in barracks or in abandoned places. Some are taken in by retired Demons in exchange for services in the house.

As for Mike? Well… Mike lived in a hole.

I can't find a better way to describe the dark cavern in the Big Mountain where he had put his change of underwear, along with a vase with black bluebells that he had found mysteriously growing nearby.

Seriously, even I don't know how he did that. It seems he is even growing some now! Such a strange individual.

As Mike headed to his cavern after his first day of school, he felt a little depressed about the turn of events, and was ashamed of his ignorance.

He stopped abruptly at the entrance. There was something odd hiding in his vase. He cautiously approached it and slowly lowered himself. What was that?

"Hey, you! Could you help me out? I need to set up a tent!" came a voice from behind the thing.

Mike slunk back and blinked. Bluebells don't talk… Do they? Of course they don't, I said behind the vase, you oaf!

He cautiously looked around the boulder where he had arranged his flowers and found something surprising: a tiny purple flame floated there, looking at him with big eyes and a very serious expression, obviously waiting for his answer.

"So, will you help out or stare at me like that all night?"

Some context is needed here while Mike puts up the tent for his new cavern mate: Demons aren't the only living things in Hell.

There is a diversity of spirits, shadows, nightmares, a couple of very disoriented raccoons, a strangely animated rabbit, and apparently a small talking purple flame.

If I had to guess, I'd say someone has been playing around with fire and a rainbow. Fabulous.

"Well thanks, sweetheart, that was nice of you!" said the flame.

Mike was taken aback. He isn't supposed to be nice at all, he's a Demon! He had screwed up again, hadn't he?

He sat on the hard ground next to the brand new tent and put his head in his hands, carefully avoiding the horns.

"I'm a complete failure. I can't be evil, I don't even want to try! I'll end up in Heaven and I don't know what would happen to me there, but it probably won't be nice."

The flame looked at him and tilted herself to the side.

"Hold on buddy. You're a Demon? I thought you were a- Well, I don't know, but not a Demon! Now that I think of it, you do look like one."

Mike grunted and let out a sarcastic laugh. "Well there's that, at least, eh?" then proceeded to get up and try to find some more flowers for his vase. He might even make a new one.

This cavern was depressing him, he didn't need that at the moment. The flame followed him out.

"Oi, what's your name by the way?" she asked, flying around his head to try and get a good look at his eyes. "Mine is Kim. It's good to have found you here, I thought I'd have to sleep outside and hope there wouldn't be rain tonight…"

That stopped Mike in his tracks. Rain? He looked at the sky. The smog-covered sky. Mike came back to his senses.

"Kim? O-Oh, I'm Mike. But don't laugh! I didn't choose that name. Also, you'd better go back to your tent, there's big black clouds up there, and the air smells funny."

Kim jolted up, looking as surprised as a purple flying flame could be. The Demon was being too nice, it was unnatural. What a weird being! How was it even possible to be so easygoing and caring in a place of intolerance and hate?

There must have been a mistake in the mix, just like what had happened to her. She decided to cling to that odd, smiling Demon and help him as much as she could. If they can't get through this alone, maybe they can at least have each other.
