1 A Couple of Buddies

Cats might just be the most fascinating creatures on Earth. They're free-willed—and they don't give a damn about anyone or anything—despite being common household pets. But what makes them so interesting and appealing? Well... they're magical. None of this really hit me until I owned a cat myself. My cat doesn't really look special to the eye, nothing more than a grey Tabby, actually. My cat, whom our family never actually named, held a secret. One I thought I'd never uncover.

Our little kitty was a stray, wandering onto our yard on one of the colder September nights. I'm sure he was shocked when he got a permanent home out of it. By heart, he was an outside cat—not once did he do his business inside the house—he would only come in for food, water, and shelter. Something that always confused my family was what else he does once he goes outside. We never saw him out on walks, the only time he's ever seen outside is when he's meowing on our doorstep.

I'll never forget the day I went out jogging. There's a little creek by our house I ran by and that's when I saw it, the transformation. I stopped dead in my tracks. Before my very eyes—I saw a grey tabby, a very familiar one, transform. Whom I thought was nothing more than my house cat turned human right before my very eyes. The strangest part was what he looked like in his human form. Around the same time, about three years ago, a very odd family moved into the neighborhood. They all blatantly looked like street bums, except for one kid. His name was Jeremy, I always thought of him as a weird kid, and it was unusual how nice he was to my family. I didn't think, but knew my cat was him. The reason he didn't look bad was probably because the family took him in. I didn't think, but I knew he was our cat. Maybe they were all cats. In a flash. I sprinted out of sight, before he saw me. needless to say I had my share of weirdness for the day.

That encounter was around three years ago, I was only fourteen. I decided to finally open my mind to Jeremy, and we befriended each other. Times have been rough. I've wanted to end it several times, right then and there. The only person, or whatever you want to call him, to help me through any of this, was Jeremy. I've learned to appreciate Jeremy over this time much more, and in both forms. Now, we're the closest of friends. I urge you, whenever a stray cat wanders into your yard, pick them up, help them out, and be kind to them. They're magical creatures, and they just want to be your friend.
