7 Her Resolution

"The summoning ceremony…"

I remember it was an important game event. If I can predict when the summoning ceremony will be held, I can also predict when will I die. But when? I don't think I can use the date and year that was mention in the game because unexpectedly, it was the one and only things that I notice are different from the game, for now.

Forget about when. Where it happened and who is involved? It feels like I'm browsing every file of memories inside my head.

If I remember correctly, the first scene right after the game started was at the royal knight division where the prince was training with his subordinates. Then, his close aide, deliver the news that a saint has safely arrived and will be having an audience with the king tomorrow.

"Eh? Wait a minute. Didn't we just skip the summoning ceremony part?"

By the way, even though the game title was 'saint of the other world', but the controlled main character is the prince. While the other characters are controllable after the player recruited them including the saint.

"Oh! I think I forgot about the short movie scene right after the player chose the new game option." In the movie, it does show a huge temple and a scene of a girl in the center of a magic circle being surrounded by a lot of people in robe.

I just remember, one of the NPC does mention the name of the temple and it was the temple of light. Thankfully I did advise the story writer to simplify the naming styles. Or else it would be a problem to remember them.

Back to the topic, the people in robe. They must be the royal mage. Thank god I am a noble who received a proper lesson about the general knowledge of the kingdom and the world.

I look at the sky searching for inspiration. The sky is clear and blue, the perfect time to do the laundry. No wonder the head maid was so mad at Freya for breaking down the laundry stand. I take a deep breath and think. If only I can be the first person to know the saint, the chance we will hate each other will be narrowed. Besides, I can regularly check on her so I can carefully make my choice to escape the death route. There are saying, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer".

So, if I can be one of the royal mage, I can attend the summoning ceremony and can meet with the saint first and be close to her.

The question is, how to become one? Now here comes the problem. If I merely ask my father like "father, I want to become a royal mage." He will turn me down almost instantly. That is because I was already engaged to the prince. A future queen doesn't have to become a mage you see. My engagement with him already has been decided since I was 10. I can't do anything at that time. If my past life memories have awakened before then, I would have the opportunity to avoid being engaged with the prince.

I rest my chin on the palm of my hand whereas my elbows rest on the handrail. I remember the first time we met 3 years ago. He was so good looking and charming I fell in love at first sight. Not long after that, it was decided that I am being engaged with the prince. I was so happy I can almost fly.

Sigh~. Here comes the heart of a maiden in love. It's annoying. I wish I would remember my past life memories before I meet the prince. Probably I would not be strangely head over heels in love with him like this. Maybe my heart also has been set just like in the game.

Now that I think about it, he will cheat on me someday and then, I will become a monster out of jealousy just to be killed by him. What a joke.

Luckily I have Haru's rational personality now. 'This love is just a fleeting emotion that will lead you to a disaster'. Therefore, I must suppress this love. My life is much more precious than a feeling called love. I must survive.

At the moment, a carriage arrived at the back gate. It seems like they came to drop some supplies for the house.

"Oh! I think I've got an idea."

****

Four days later,

Right now, I'm in my father's office. I was standing in front of him waiting for my turn to talk. Currently, my father is reviewing a document shown by Mr. Grant Valmort, the head butler of the Herrington's house. He is the most loyal retainer of the household. His generation has served my family for more than 200 years starting from my great- grandfather era until today.

"Evette, what purpose have you come to see me in the office today?"

As he hands over the document to Mr. grant, he asked. I glance at Mr. Grant who is still standing beside him as a signal.

"Oh. My apologies. I will excuse myself for now."

After confirming that Mr. Grant completely left the room, I started to open my mouth.

"Father, there's something I've been meaning to ask of you. Will you promise that you will listen until the end?"

Father smiled at me gently as he rests his chin on the back of his hands. Since I have been engaged with the prince, my father's attitude towards me has become gentler and he would give his attention to me more. Before, he wouldn't bother to even look at me.

"Yes. I promise. What is it, Eve?"

From the look of it, I know that my father doesn't take this talk seriously. Disappointed, I look at the ground and clench my hand tightly before I continue. Now or never.

"Father, I want to become a royal mage so please annul my engagement with the prince."

I let it all out in one breath. My eyes still looking at the floor. I'm afraid to look at father. How was his expression right now? Is he angry? Is he relaxed? Confused? My father might be very surprised right now since he knows that I like the prince. I waited for my father's response but I heard nothing of sort from him.

As I lift my face slowly, I saw my father's face becomes furious with anger. When my eyes met his, he suddenly said.

"Do you want to die?!"
