5 Her Previous Life

"The truth is I'm in love with someone else."

The beautiful woman shocked. She does not want to believe the words that she heard from the man in front of her. Sweet smile like a maiden in love disappears from her face. The bright and sweet atmosphere inside the room turns to sorrow.

"I don't want to lie to myself especially to you. So, let's break off our engagement."

Once again, that beautiful woman felt like she was being struck by thunder. Her hands started to tremble. Tears in her eyes start to gather. Noticing that, she immediately looked down. She does not want to trouble that man with her tears. She mustered her energy to hold back the tears. She forced a smile and lifted her head to face the man.

"I understand."

The man who has troubled expression, widen his eyes hard to believe that the woman in front of her easily agreed to his condition. Deep down inside he felt relieved but guilt never leaves him.

"I know it's unfair to you. I'm so sorry."

"It's ok, your highness. May happiness always be with you and your loved one. The kingdom will absolutely overjoy with the news."

That woman forced the brightest smile as she can. But the man looked away. He cannot bear to face the woman in front of him. He knows how much that woman loved him. He knows she's been working so hard to stay by his side. Unable to further see that woman getting more hurt, he stands up and makes his way to the door.

"Goodbye, Eve. I hope you can find your own happiness."

Right after the man leaves the woman named Evette Rose Herrington inside the room alone, her mask torn down. She looks at the prince's cup which he left untouched. The appetizing sweets that she hoped to enjoy with him before, now looks disgusting. The tears are slowly run down her cheeks. She remembers the scene where she saw the prince and the saint were walking together holding hands in the city. They look so intimate and so in love with each other. She doesn't want to believe what she saw so she quickly ran away. But the scene where her loved one showed the most dazzling smile to someone else never escape from her mind. And now, the only ties that she had with him, the engagement has been dissolved.

Her hands grip the table cloth tightly before she throws all of the things on the table. The sweets smeared to the ground. The cups and plates shattered to pieces. But those cannot be compared with her shattered heart. She punches her painful chest and cries her heart out.

Her eyes are full of furious. She swears she never forgives that woman who took her beloved prince away.

"Thud!"

Eve's body smashed onto the wall before she falls onto the floor. She gathers her strength to stand up but eventually, she gave up.

The Prince ran towards Eve's side. Even though Eve tried to kill the woman he loves, his face doesn't show any glimpse of hatred but rather, sympathy. Eve slowly raised her right hand and touched his cheek.

"Why? I loved you so much."

The prince holds onto Eve's hand that was touching his cheek. He bit his lower lips incapable to say anything.

"Say, Your Highness. Do you ever love me?"

The prince's eyes widen. He was unlikely to hear the question by now. The grip of his hand tighten. Tears fall down from the prince's eyes as he slowly shakes his head. She wanted to wipe his tears away but back away after he shook his head.

"Don't cry. I truly understand now."

He lets go of her hand to wipe away his tears before hold onto both of them again. He formed the most charming smile he had as he said.

"Thank you for loving me, Eve. Just so you know, you are and will always be my precious childhood friend and the best queen candidate I ever had."

Eve's violet eyes which were affixed at the prince before turned to face the sky. Her lips form a satisfied smile as she closed her eyes which will never be able to open again.

The next scene shows the wedding ceremony of both the prince and the saint but the girl beside me still sniffs and cries so hard from the previous scene. It's unbearable to watch anymore.

"How long are you intending to cry?"

"B but it's so sad!" she tries to hug me but I move my body backward to avoid her.

"Hey! At least, wipe out you snot first."

Slowly back away, she grabs several pieces of tissue paper and blows on her nose.

"Geez, Big sister Haru. How did you able to come up with a sad game when you are so heartless."

"It's not me who wrote the story. I just work on the game's development."

"But you are the project manager, right? How come you agreed to make a game with this kind of story?"

It's not like my head itch but I scratch my head out of impulse.

"Ah. I just thought it was a nice story. Isn't it?"

"It's not! The saint is a bitch because she flirts with the prince even though she knows that he has a fiancé. The prince is so kind and charming yet how dare he cheated on his fiancé! Poor Eve!"

My little sister continues to cry. Ignoring her wailing, I stand up to put the controller away.

"Still, the game was able to get a high ranking, you know."

"It's because the gameplay was so good. Overall, 'Saint of the Other World' (SOW) really was interesting. Only the saint and the prince get on my nerves."

"oh yeah? I'll keep that in mind."

I grab my coat and the car key as I walked to the front door. I wear my red heels and check on my attire before I turn to my sister who walks towards me.

"I'm going now. Don't forget to lock the door."

"I will. Have fun at the award party big sister."

I smile and walked out of the door. As I closed the door, I saw my sister waving and smile widely at me without knowing the fact that it was the last time I ever saw her again.
