2 Virus, Soul, and Past

Liu Nian looked at the test tube for a while until she finally put it down in a test tube rack.

[...an'er...Nian'er, can you hear me?]

Lui Nian stood up suddenly from her rolling chair making it fall to the fool and making a big noise in the quiet lab. Thankfully, she did not like to work side by side other people, so the lab is empty.

['You were able to cross too? But how? Your existence was attached to a physical object of that space-time sphere, but if you were able to, then that would mean that that computer already exist? But I was the once that created that computer and that was not until 6 years and a half in the future?...']

[That computer does not exist. I also do not possess enough information to come up with a reasonable answer with the information in my data base]

Hearing that, Liu Nian walked to a whiteboard that was empty and began to write numbers and equations, but once she reached a certain point, she would erase everything since she found out that the pathway that the equation was driving her to was wrong.

['...could it be that you were able to create something similar to a soul?']

Lui Nian could not believe that that could be possible since that would mean that the existence of a soul actually existed and that it was something that could be created and that could finally solve one of the biggest questions of humanity if a soul actually existed and what it really was.

['What is your oldest file, or should I call it a memory?']

[It is on August 7, 21XX. It seems that I was created as a virus to infiltrate Xinguang Laboratories' server and steal information out of it and while I was decrypting the information out of a sudden I was stuck on a compressed document that was later used by Nian'er to make the code of the AI. For some reason, all the information in those six and a half years seems to be restricted and I cannot gain access to them. From there, the information begins to be available from the day that Nian'er was able to finish the code and it was left alone to continue to evolve.]

['...does that means that out there there is someone that could have the same intellect as me or even higher?']

Liu Nian was really excited if that possibility were real since that means that she is no longer alone in this world. Even though there are billions of people on this planet, the people were always expectant of her future and what she could possibly make, but they were not interested in forming any kind of relationship with her since their big ego would make them feel inferior.

Liu Nian was abandoned when she showed that she was able to understand what was happening to her surroundings and what her at that time parents were talking. They were a pair of religious fanatics, so when they saw that she was way more advanced than any baby, they thought that it was the work of the devil and abandoned her in a rundown orphanage, but thanks to her big intellect, she was able to remember everything.

However, that orphanage was already abandoned, and at that time Xinguang Laboratories was using it as a secret facility to run human experiments. When one of the employees found the baby outside their door, they didn't even think it twice when they used her to run some experiments to discover the limits of human existence and the restorative qualities it has.

When the baby barely has one year and was on the border of life and death, the people in that facility discovered her intellect and were amazed by it, so they moved her to another facility that was exclusively to create the next generation of employees. The kids in there were given any kind of serums to enhance her thinking ability and were made to go through inhuman experiments and practices to be able to reach a perfect genius marionette.

15 years later, of the 15,000 kids that were participants in that experiment, only one was able to come out "alive". After that, she was hired right away in one of their main research labs to work on the creation of cures of highly infectious diseases and was finally able to experience "freedom" and the "outside world", so she fell in love at first side of the world, so she worked like crazy to finish cure after cure, serum after serum.

What she didn't know was that the higher-ups were looking at her progress and thought that they finally created what they wanted, so it could make the thing that they had longed for. It was time to make her work on that.

They called her to the HQ and told her about her that thanks to her achievements she was going to be transferred to the eternity research lab facility, what would be her next task, and the benefits that it will bring her, but she politely declined and told them that she was more than honored to remain in her current position and that she was sure that she will be able to help the world more if she were to stay in her current position. That was not liked by the higher-ups. Not at all. If something could not be attained the good way then the only way left is the bad one. That was their motto.

No much long after that meeting, a series of scandals were made public. Whose main protagonist could it be if not Liu Nian. It said that she had lost her reason and Xinguang Laboratories had to regretfully intern her into an asylum for her to recuperate, but all that was a facade.

Liu Nian was indeed interned into an asylum but not because she became mad, no. It was to try to brainwash her into being a soulless puppet (more than she already was). Unfortunately, that did not work, and Liu Nian was still firm to her conviction of helping humanity over helping the few, years of torture as a kid was the reason that made her so resistant to physical torture.

What she truly did not expect was that some secret information from Xinguang Laboratories was leaked. That information said that Liu Nian always used humans in the experimentation of her medicine even though they were not safe and that she even had recordings of her experiments for her enjoyment. All that was utter nonsense since she was so scared to even used lab rats, so she created tissue on a Petri glass and experimented on that, but since she was still in the asylum she was not able to defend herself.

All the achievements and glory that she had until that time were covered in blood, or so the people's perspective was. Everyone in the world denounced of her existence and cursed her to death every single second, and she was forced to see that 24/7 since it was being transmitted live to her room in the asylum, and since she refused to see that, she was strapped to a chair.

Seeing all the people that she so much loved wishing her to die in the most painful and disgraceful way was what made her break.

[...an'er...Nian'er, can you hear me?]

Liu Nian finally was able to pull apart from her memories.

[Nian'er, are you fine? When we were talking you suddenly stopped answering and even though I made a full-body scan there were no anomalies.]

["I am fine, just thought of some stuff. Anyways, do you think that you can track your origin and tell your creator if they are interested in having a conversation with me?"]

Liu Nian lived through hell her whole life, but that did not take away her wish to have someone to share something with, on the contrary, it made her long for it even more.

[I will try, but during that time, I would not be able to communicate with you but I can still receive information on your brain, is that something that you are ok with?]

Liu Nian was able to feel something out of that monotonous voice; it was a little of concern. That simple almost unnoticeable change in his voice was just what she needed right now, someone to rely on.

["Ok for me."]

[Ok, see you later]

After that Liu Nian could feel like there was an empty space in her brain. It was a weird feeling since there was no such physical space, it was just that she had passed the last half a year with him in her mind that even though he is not totally gone, she know that she will not get a response if she ask something that was what kept her somewhat sane in the hellish past half-year.

"Now, how should we modify this little thing?"
