13 Freaky Friday

Bonus chapter

Friday the 13th edition...

I couldn't believe the week had flown by so fast. Today was the day that most superstitious people dreaded... Friday the 13th or the day of "Bad Luck and Black Cats," which by the way I have... Not so much the bad luck but more the black cat. The odds of a black cat crossing my path today was at a 100% since I owned one.

If a cat cross your road that means the cat is going somewhere.

The hazy light filtered in through my curtains and woke me up just a few minutes before my alarm clock went off. I couldn't go back to sleep even though I really wanted to since the light was shining in my face and so I lost those few precious minutes of just laying in bed and lazing around.

"If you didn't know any better you'd probably say I was the cat because of my laziness."

Getting out of bed, I walked to my calendar to see that... "Friday the 13th" was circled in bright red highlighter. I'm not a superstitious person, in case you wondering. However, I am cautious. Somehow that sentence just screams hypocrite... you contradicting yourself... Said the sarcastic voice in my head. Okay, maybe I am a little bit superstitious but I say cautious because I mean, who wants to test the theory of bad luck?.. Not me.

Would you break a mirror if someone told you that it could cost you seven years of bad luck?.. I honestly, don't know if it is true... But I wouldn't want to find out because you never know. So I'd rather not take that risk and therefore I'm cautious. Well, at least that's what I tell myself.

We were in the month of October and the next date I had circled on my calendar was the 31st... "Halloween." Realising that it was Friday, even though it was a day many people wanted to avoid, I was jumping for joy when my brain processed that we had finally reached the end of another torturous school week.

Although, Saturday and Sunday did seem to fly by quick, the break did serve its purpose, I just wish it was longer than just two days. But that wish will probably never come true and reality then kicks in. "Unfortunately for us, the world isn't all butterflies and rainbows..." as much as we want it to be.

After checking my calendar, I looked through the curtains which were slightly open to see that the sky was covered in a thick layer of heavy grey clouds but for some strange reason it wasn't raining... Not a drop of water fell from the sky. I mean, it was Friday the 13th the weather was bound to be odd... What did you expect?.. Crazy weather for a crazy day. Yet, somehow, Friday the 13th and Halloween always seemed to have this airy feel to it, making it seem somewhat mysterious in a way.

I don't know why but sometimes on these days things did happen, it's just that nobody took note of it. Strange incidents or occurrences would happen to people and they would just act all normal about it... Like it was an everyday thing. But I am not going to talk about this right now... Otherwise we'll never get on with the story.

Heading to the bathroom I did my daily routine, which I am not going to mention since we already know what I do in the morning before I go to school... Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada.

Finishing everything I was supposed to do... I left home making sure to feed the cat as I left a bowl in the kitchen with some cat food for him this time, instead of tuna.

I locked the front door with him inside and opened my umbrella as I walked down the steps in the direction of my school. Looking down at my neck, I saw that I was still wearing the necklace that Eva gave me and I realised that I hadn't taken it off since the day she gave it to me. Still walking, I felt a chilly gust of wind blow against me as a car drove past and then the first drop of rain landed on my see through umbrella. We were definitely in for a storm, a heavy one... I thought hurrying towards my school as the rain began to crash to the ground.

"Wow, just my luck... Of all times, it only starts raining when I have to walk to school."

Rushing up the steps and throwing the doors open, I managed to make it into the building just in time before the rain started. When I entered the hallway it was beyond full but not overcrowded as some students still had to arrive. Like Eva for example, who once again wasn't here yet.

Although everything seemed normal as I walked through the passageway to get to my locker, I kept on getting this weird feeling in my gut... It was that feeling again, that feeling of being watched. The question is... By who?.. Who was watching me so intensely that I could sense their presence?.. Who?..

Reaching my locker I checked the time... It read 7:53. What a relief, I thought, still early. Not that I needed to worry about that... I mean, the Biology Sir still has me covered. After all he did promise and he told me in person that he never goes back on his word.

I packed the books that I needed inside my bag and placed the ones that I wasn't using back inside my locker when I felt a nudge on my shoulder and thinking it was Eva, I turned around to come face to face with Felix as his lips hit into mine. I was surprised by the kiss as he went on and then pulled away saying... "Good morning, Alice..." leaving me to stand there wide eyed in shock.

"U-uh, good morning, Felix..." I said in an awkwardly shy tone.

"So do you have any big plans for today?.." Felix asked with a questioning look on his face.

"No," I said still thinking, "Why do you want to know though?.."

"I just wanted to know..." he said, "that's all."

I will admit that I don't know Felix very well but I can tell you one thing... He was definitely covering up for something.

"Are you planning something that I don't know about?.." I asked tilting my head to the side and giving him a questioning look.

"Nope, there is nothing that I can think of..." He said nonchalantly as he shrugged his shoulders.

Then I remembered that statement that Felix made... The day he stood up for me and told Lexie off... "Alice, is mine and no one else's..."

Ever since Felix stood up for me that day none of the girls in Lexie's group ever messed with me. But speaking of which, I actually haven't seen Lexie for a long time now...

It's like she'd disappeared off the face of the planet and although she was kind of the bully, I was actually kind of worried about her. Weird, I know right... I mean, who feels sorry for the one person who treats them like a doormat?..

Apparently, I do... Said the sarcastic voice in my head. But you see there actually was reasoning behind my madness.

The reason being that I felt sorry for her when I realised that her whole life was a lie... Her friends, her family and the fact that she pretended she had no flaws, which just to make things clear, is impossible by the way because there is no way you can be that perfect unless you planning to defy the laws of gravity with just how high your social status is. All she could brag about was material things and now that I think about it, she never ever mentioned her parents... I wonder why?..

The group of friends she hung out with were a bunch of backstabbers and the main reason they stuck by her was because she was rich... Wait, no let me rephrase that... Because her parents had money. I couldn't believe my eyes that day when Felix confronted her and her so called "Friends" just left her there. If anything they sounded more like frenemies to me, I thought.

Then I thought of that quote... "Keep your friends close but your enemies closer" Or in this case closest... Maybe that's what she was doing, I thought, knowing her she most probably would. Trust me when you get picked on by the same person day in and day out, you pick up on a few things. For example, I was wise enough to not let Lexie and her snobbish ways get to me.

But enough about that, the main reason I wanted to find Lexie was to apologise to her for the way Felix acted towards her. As bad as she was I don't think she deserved that... I mean, her friends already left her... Talk about kicking someone when they already down but I knew he only did it to protect me.

"Alice?.." I heard a voice speak, nudging me out of my thoughts... it was Felix.

"First period is starting..." He said. "Do you have all your books?"

"Yes." I said eagerly.

"Okay," he said, "then let's get to class."

Eva still hadn't arrived yet and so I asked Felix if I could wait for her.

Wait, I thought to myself, why the hell am I asking him?!..

Felix waited with me for Eva to arrive and we waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited but still nothing. While we "waited" for Eva, I took the opportunity to ask Felix what he meant exactly by the statement he made. Alice is mine?.. I'm his?.. After asking him what exactly he meant... He stayed silent and didn't say a word so I broke the silence...

"So," I said awkwardly with a bit of a giggle, "since when am I yours?.."

He just looked at me with a smirk across his face as he looked down and then back to me again... "Since the first day I laid eyes on you..." He said.

Standing there awkwardly after he said that, I began to think about Eva since my brain was struggling to process what he had just said. I then began to wonder off into my thoughts with Felix just acting all nonchalant about it... Like it was completely normal to say something like that.

This isn't like Eva, I thought to myself, she would have called by now. Felix just looked at me with a serious look of concern on his face...

"Give her time," he said, "and stop worrying, I'm sure she is only running a few minutes late."

Just as he said that... Eva entered through the main entrance of the school. I really need to stop making up my own conclusions, I thought to myself.

*Face palm*

Eva walked towards me with a cheerful smile on her face as she gave me a huge hug, saying... "Good morning, Alice..." and as she looked over my shoulder towards Felix, she said... "Good morning, Felix..."

The only words that managed to escape my mouth after she spoke was... "You're late..."

"Morning..." Felix greeted back as he smiled.

"Oh, I'm sorry," said Eva, "I kind of overslept."

"Well, next time you do..." I said, "please call me, you had me worried about you, I thought something happened."

"Well," Eva said, "actually, something did happen."

"What happened?!.." I asked with worry and concern evident in my tone.

"While I was walking to school, I walked under this tall silver ladder some guy was working on and a can of paint came flying towards my head."

That's why you don't walk under ladders, I thought, and on Friday the 13th of all days?.. But then again Eva isn't as cautious as me.

"Wait," I said, "this story sounds interesting but before you continue can we first get to class?.."

"Okay..." Said Eva as we all walked to class with Felix still behind us.

Getting to class we took our seats and the teacher excused us for being late... So I guess, the Biology Sir stayed true to his word after all.

As we sat down, Eva then continued... "So a can of paint came flying towards my head and I expected it to hit me since I was frozen in place but then this boy that seemed rather strange pushed me out of the way and I ended up landing in his lap."

"Wow," I said laughing uncontrollably, "I wonder what James is going to say about this."

"No, Aaalice..." said Eva, "but I'm not done with the story yet... When I stood up and I said thanks for saving me, he said no problem but in an odd English accent and then a man who looks like a magician walked towards us with a black top hat on his head."

Wait, that sounds familiar... I thought. Black top hat?..

"Then," she said, still continuing, "the magician guy asks me to tell you or in his words... "Tell Alice I'll see her tomorrow..." I mean, how did he know I knew you?.. It was like he was some kind of telepath..."

After our conversation, the bell rang and I headed to my locker but then as I opened it and I began to take out the books I needed, I heard this strange creaking sound. Looking to the mirror that was inside my locker door, I saw that the mirror was cracking by itself with a green shiny light coming through the cracks. It was rather odd to say the least and what made me freak out even more was when I saw that the pendant that Eva gave me was glowing again in the darkness of the hallway.

Slamming my locker shut I rushed through the hallway to get to the girls toilet when I saw that the janitor's closet was open and so I rushed inside since it was closer. While I was running I hoped that no one saw that my necklace was glowing and as I went inside I felt someone pull me in, close the door behind me and the next thing I knew... My mouth was being covered by a large hand... Possibly a males hand but I could have been wrong...

While the hand was covering my mouth I said under my breath... "Let me go!.." but the words seemed to be muffled coming out since my mouth was still covered.

Then I heard a familiar voice saying... "Calm down or we'll both get caught." As I heard the voice I then put two and two together and realised it was none other than Felix himself.

"Oh, it's you..." I heard him say as he slowly let go of my mouth.

To be continued...
