Halloween Night

Halloween night arrives, children and adults dress up in costumes to have fun on the night. Children went from house to house asking for candy.

It was seven o'clock at night, and Amanda was sitting on her couch watching a horror movie that was shown on television every Halloween night. Even though she didn't believe in ghosts or anything like that, horror movies were still very interesting to her. Especially if it was about a serial killer.

While eating potato salad, Amanda enjoyed the movie, waiting for the kids to knock on her door asking for candy.

Actually, Amanda could just put the candy at the door and let them take it themselves. But she was curious about the costumes the kids would wear tonight.

"What kind of costumes will they wear?"

Not long after, she heard someone knocking on her door. Excitedly, Amanda walked to the door and opened it.

"Trick or Treat!" exclaimed three children as they handed her the containers they had brought.

They wore the cutest costumes, one was a ghost, one was a superman and one was a witch.

"Ohh... Your costumes are very nice. Here are some candies for you for wearing such interesting costumes," Amanda said, putting some candies and chocolates into each of their containers.

"Thank you, Miss Sanchess!" the three exclaimed and waved goodbye.

"Bye!" Amanda shook her head softly with a smile and closed the door.

Several other children came in turn to do Trick or Treat as well. Their costumes were so interesting and it amused Amanda to see them.

She wondered if her child would also join the Halloween celebration.

"Hmn... I wonder what costume you will wear? I can't wait to see you soon," Amanda said softly while rubbing her stomach.

Just as Amanda was sitting back on her couch, someone knocked again. It was already nine o'clock in the evening. She wondered if the kids were still out at this hour.

"Maybe since it's Halloween, they can stay out until late." Amanda immediately got up from her seat and walked back to the front door.

Knock knock

The knocking sound continued. "Yes, one moment!"

And when the door was opened, Amanda didn't see anyone behind the door. "Hmn? No one? Hey... You guys want some candy, no?" she called out.

Still, there was no answer from anyone, because there was no one, thinking that the children had left first because she took too long to open the door, Amanda closed the door again.

Just a few steps away from the door, another knock sounded. It stopped Amanda in her tracks and made her turn around to stare at the door.

"Are they back again? Those kids..."

She opened the door again and saw, not a child standing at her door. Instead, it was a grown man wearing a hideous mask. He wore a shabby jacket and just stood there staring at Amanda.

"Can I help you, sir?" asked Amanda without any fear.

The man stood still without saying anything. Amanda tilted her head slightly as she felt confused by the person at her door right now. What did the man want?

Amanda silently grabbed the umbrella near the door, if the man had bad intentions, she could hit him with the umbrella.

But suddenly the man took off his mask and it turned out to be the man Amanda recognized.

"Okay, it's me..."

"Sheriff George? I guess who. You scared me," Amanda replied, putting the umbrella back down. "What's wrong with coming to my house at night?"

"Nothing, I just wanted to check things out here because considering it's Halloween night, a lot of kids are hanging around. So I'm keeping an eye on them so they don't go to dangerous places... I just happened to want to surprise you," George explained.

The man also said that he knew Amanda's house from Camille when they met at the end of the street.

"I see. I thought it was some prankster who knocked on the door and then just left,"

"I'm sorry I disturbed you," George said as he took off his hat.

"No, not at all. I'm just relieved that it was a sheriff who showed up at my door."

George asked if Amanda was home alone. She explained that she did live alone. The two chatted at the door about a number of things, including Jhon's cafe which was being repaired.

The man missed Amanda because he had not seen her for a long time. That's why he deliberately came to Amanda's house to meet her on the pretext of watching the neighborhood.

He was happy to see that Amanda was okay. Amanda also invited George to come in and talk inside. But he refused because he had to continue patrolling.

"I see, oka--"

"Trick or Treat!!!" exclaimed two children who suddenly came to them. "Oh hello Sheriff George!" they greeted.

"Hello kids, did you get a lot of candy? Don't eat it all at once and don't forget to brush your teeth after eating it," said George.

"Okaaayyy!" they exclaimed.

Amanda smiled at George who was very friendly with the children. She gave them the candy and they left feeling happy.

"Thank you, Miss Sanchess! Bye byeee!"

"Bye!" Amanda gave them a small wave. "They're very cute kids..."

"That's right, the children in this district are very kind and obedient. I think that's the last of it, you can rest now," George told Amanda.

The woman nodded. The sheriff reminded Amanda to lock the door for safety and left. Amanda closed the door and locked it.

She went back to the couch and finished her potato salad. That night she saw a lot of costumes worn by the children, she felt happy to see the children smiling cheerfully after getting their candy.

Feeling sleepy, Amanda fell asleep on the sofa in the living room.

In her dreams, she remembered the Halloween night she had when she was a child. Because their parents couldn't afford pumpkins and the neighborhood they lived in was a slum.

They couldn't celebrate Halloween like most kids. However, that afternoon their father came home with three pieces of candy. He gave one to each of his children.

"I'm sorry, I can only give you one. But I promise, next time I will give you more than this," said the father.

Amanda, Kylie and Ace were so happy to get candy from their father. All three hugged their father happily.

"Thank you, Daddy!"

In her sleep, Amanda smiled remembering all that. No matter how much she got, just being able to enjoy a little bit of the sweetness made them very happy.
