37 The Shades of Night

After George stuffed his mouth with the cloth as he ordered, Han Jin dragged George out of the bed by his hair. He then drew something in the air with his index finger, and a charm made up of countless dots of light instantly appeared.

It was a charm of spirit refreshment, which only cost Han Jin dozens of yuan's energy. While Moxinke and George were still looking at the charm curiously, Han Jin waved his arm. The charm flew into the air and then fell down right on George's face. A sense of refreshment instantly washed over George's mind. He felt much more energetic, and if someone wasn't holding him hostage, he would probably jump and shout in joy.

"These are not enough," Han Jin pointed at the jewelry in the bed and sneered, "Do you understand me?"

George looked at him with fear in his eyes and grabbed the cloth in his mouth, trying to pull it out to explain the difficult situation he was in. But Han Jin simply raised his sword and pinned down George's hand. "Do not ever try to pull the cloth out! If you do, I will kill you!"

George was stunned. He didn't know how to reply with his mouth still stuffed.

Han Jin stuck out a foot and stomped heavily on George's ankle. George's big toe was cut off and flew several meters away. Every time George's heart beat, a stream of blood would splash out of the wound.

His face distorted immediately. It's said that one's ten fingers were linked to one's heart. The same was with one's toes. Tears and snot fell down from his eyes and nose due to the extreme pain. He frantically tried to kick away Han Jin's leg with his right foot, but Han Jin simply stood there, as sturdy as a steel statue.

In the end, George even tried to grab Han Jin's leg, but before he could do anything, Moxinke walked up and grabbed his hair. Han Jin wiped his sword on George's wound and said again with a cold voice, "Not enough!" Then he raised his sword again and with one fell swoop, George's other toes also had to bid farewell to their owner. Even more blood started to gush out.

Sharp pain tortured George and nearly made him faint, but his refreshed spirit made him feel extraordinarily energetic. His chest heaved up and down like an air bellow. He had never felt such sobriety and incisiveness in his entire life, but in turn, the pain was amplified many times.

Han Jin tapped George's frantically kicking legs with the sword while Moxinke held out his foot and stepped on George's heel firmly. "Not enough!" Han Jin said. This time, he moved his sword to George's right foot.

Several cloth bags and ten-odd magic crystals appeared from the air and dropped down on George's legs. He whimpered with a sad sound as if he was trying to gain sympathy from Han Jin, but Han Jin merely glanced at what he just brought and repeated himself in his cold voice, "I said... not enough!"

Before his voice died away, the flash of his sword once again drew an arc in the air. George struggled like a fish on a cutting board, but his legs were fixed firmly in place and could not move at all. His eyes opened so wide, it seemed as if his eyeballs would pop out at any moment. Clearly, he was on the verge of collapse.

"Not enough!" Another four toes came off. The sword now rested on George's ankle. The next time that Han Jin says 'Not enough', it would be George's foot that was cut off.

Like a magician performing his trick, numerous lights started shining throughout the air. Numerous bags of magic crystals rained down to the ground, almost burying George's entire body in the blink of an eye.

"Not enough!" Han Jin said with his unwavering expression.

This time, George didn't struggle at all. His eyes rolled up into his head and his body went limp, either from immense fear or because he simply couldn't handle the extreme pain anymore. He finally fainted as he had hoped.

Moxinke put his index finger before George's nose and said, "He is not dead yet. Goddamn, you went pretty far, but... I think these are all he has got."

"Well." Han Jin nodded and walked over to the bed. He pulled the sheet down and said, "Get everything wrapped up."

At this time, Sunier came in from outside. When she saw the hill of treasures, she was shocked, "Nice haul!"

"It definitely exceeded my expectations." Han Jin bent over and took the ring off of George's finger and looked at it closely.

Moxinke picked up several bags and threw them on the sheet. He suddenly thought of something, "Sunier, does your space ring still have space?"

"It's half empty, but there is no way I can fit all of that in," after she said this, her eyes glanced at Han Jin, "What about him?"

"Spare him." Han Jin smiled.

"Spare him?" Moxinke repeated with surprise.

"We can come back a few months later. Maybe he will bring us another surprise."

"Come back to him? You are really..." Moxinke forced a smile.

"If you really want to own this space ring, you must kill him," Sunier said lightly.

"Why?" Han Jin was puzzled.

"It's complicated. I'll explain it later."

With that, Han Jin held up his sword and thrust it down into George's throat. Originally, he had planned to spare the man's life. What would a merchant like George do after being robbed? He would either give up completely or try to regain his wealth fanatically. Since his son-in-law was the mayor of the Eleventh Town, he would no doubt choose the second route since he had a powerful enough supporter. In that case, when Han Jin and his friends came back, he should have a sizable fortune accumulated again.

But, since he needed the space ring desperately, Han Jin had no other choice.

Soon, most of the treasures were stored in Sunier's space ring, while the remaining ten or so cloth bags were carried on Moxinke's back.

They looked at each other before sneaking out one by one. Just as Sunier and Moxinke were losing their trust in Han Jin, Han Jin also started to suspect Sunier and Moxinke's pasts. They all had certain qualities that might not be apparent in their conversations but would manifest themselves quite clearly by their actions.

They all seemed cold-blooded to some extent. In other words, they were all people with extraordinary experiences. Attacking those knights and sneaking into George's house, all within one day, meant that every single one of their hands were filled with other's blood. What's more, after all that, Han Jin still kept his smile, Moxinke still remained his carefree self, and Sunier still maintained her usual coldness. No matter how much their enemies deserved to die, no matter how angry and justified they felt, none of them would be able to remain so calm without a complicated past.

Their understanding of each other was more profound now, but this understanding was better left unacknowledged and kept as a thought in their minds.

When they finally came out of the courtyard, they saw the anxious face of Cessacioun. "You finally came back! I was so worried about you!" he grumbled.

"Let's go," Han Jin whispered, "to the Red River Hotel and pick up Miss Keeley."

The time before dawn was the darkest time. Even the law enforcement team was slacking in their patrols. Thus, a group of murderers left the Eleventh Town soundlessly, found their horses, then disappeared into the night.
