Chapter - 66 - New Home

Tang Li and Yi Minghuan entered the infirmary with hopes of brighter days ahead.

Dr. Zhang noticed their arrival and offered a friendly greeting from a distance. He asked with a warm smile, "You're here early. Have you had breakfast?"

"Not yet" Tang Li returned the smile and exchanged pleasantries with Dr. Zhang. Then, she inquired about Uncle Wang's condition.

Uncle Wang, who was resting in a hospital bed, interjected with optimism, "I woke up early, and my body is much better. We were talking about you just now."

Then Dr. Zhang's curiosity got the best of him, and he inquired, "I heard that you were separated from your family. You went to see Brother Wang yesterday. Do you want to use his house?"

Tang Li nodded in agreement, acknowledging that there were no secrets in this tight-knit community.

"Yes," she admitted, "We've been separated, and we'd be grateful for a place to stay."

"I already spoke to Uncle Wang about your situation," Dr. Zhang chimed in. "He's more than happy to let you use his house." With that, he led Tang Li and Yi Minghuan inside.

Uncle Wang, lying on the hospital bed, nodded and smiled warmly at them. "You can clean it today and just move in," he said, sharing the location of the house key, "The key to the door is under my bed pillow."

Tang Li was overjoyed by the generosity of Uncle Wang and insisted, "Uncle Wang, thank you so much. We don't want to impose. How about we contribute something, like food or money, every year for your kindness?"

Uncle Wang bristled at the suggestion, his voice filled with emotion. "What are you talking about? How can I ask for your money? You saved my life, and I can't let you live in this house?"

Touched by Uncle Wang's refusal to accept payment, Tang Li decided to respect his wishes. She silently resolved to provide him with additional support, such as clothing and food, during their stay in the house.

Yi Minghuan felt just as uncomfortable with the idea of receiving such kindness. He mirrored Tang Li's sentiments and made a silent vow to take good care of Uncle Wang, a lonely old man who had shown them incredible kindness.

With Uncle Wang's blessing to use the house and after exchanging further pleasantries, Tang Li and Yi Minghuan hurried back to begin the moving process.

Their meager possessions made the move a breeze. Yi Minghuan borrowed a cart, loaded it with essentials such as food, bedding, and other necessities, and completed the entire move in a single trip.

Uncle Wang's house and his son's house were conveniently situated, one in front and one behind the other. Exiting from Uncle Wang's backyard led them to his son's courtyard gate.

Tang Li unlocked the door and entered with a sense of excitement. Though the house wasn't technically hers, it was destined to become her future home. This was the place where, without Gu Xiulan and the others, she and Yi Minghuan could finally create their own peaceful haven.

'Only her and Yi Minghuan's home!'

The sight of the furnished house filled Tang Li with joy as she explored every nook and cranny.

With a smile on her face, she muttered to herself, "There are beds, tables, chairs, cabinets, even bowls and chopsticks, and the kitchen can be used directly. There's also a room for food and sundries, a place to grow vegetables, a chicken coop, and a spacious yard..."

Tang Li couldn't contain her enthusiasm any longer and shouted with delight, "This house is fantastic! I love it here!"

Yi Minghuan finished unloading the cart, watching Tang Li's happiness over a simple house without a courtyard door, and was deeply touched.

'She is so easily satisfied!' He thought with a doting smile on his face.

"Let me help you!" she offered with a warm smile.

"I'll clean up the kitchen, and then we can cook. But what should we have for breakfast? There are no ready-made steamed buns or even flour. We only have two bags of corn, half a bag of wheat, and half a bag of sorghum."

Tang Li voiced her concerns about their meager breakfast options, but her face still bore a wide smile.

She was eager to begin their new life in their own little haven.

Despite the humble fare, she felt grateful for the prospect of a peaceful, new beginning.

'She was very happy!'.....
