1 HIJRAH, MOVING TO MEDINA

This day is the new years of Muslim. The start of Hijriyah calendar is begin by date 1 of Muharram month. The Hijrah calendar was sign by the moving of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina. Siti asked, "Grandfather, why Prophet Muhammed and his people move from Mecca to Medina?"

The Grandfather answered, "Because they couldn't hold it anymore of the intimidation and torment of the unbelievers Mecca. To save his people, Prophet Muhammad ordered them to move to Yatsrib."

"Why move to Yatsrib, not Medina?" asked Poni.

"Ha-ha-ha, you're you are smart kids!" The Grandfather laughed. "Yatsrib is the old name of Medina. When the Prophet moved there the name changed to Medina. The mean of Medina is Prophet City." The Grandfather continued the story.

"When knew that the believers had moved to Medina, the unbelievers of Mecca intended to kill the Prophet Muhammad. By Allah's help, the Prophet was saved from their atrocities. Accompanied by Abu Bakar, his friend, the Prophet left Mecca and had time to hide in the Tsur cave. Before arriving at Yathrib, he stopped at Quba and built a mosque. The mosque of Quba is the first mosque which built by Muslims." The moving day of Prophet Muhammad to Medina was used as a calendar, called the Hijrah calendar. (*)
