I made it maybe two steps before Zane tackled me from behind, his arms wrapping around my waist and pulling me back.

"Let go!" I kicked at his shins, scratched at his arms, tried everything to break free. "Let me go this minute!"

"Val, stop!" He was trying to hold me without hurting me, which meant I was landing some hits. "You're gonna hurt yourself!"

"I don't care anymore, you all have hurt me long enough!"

Alerion grabbed my arms, pinning them to my sides. "Enough. Stop fighting us and behave yourself."

"No, you don’t get to tell me what to do. Matter of fact, only my dad is allowed to give me orders that I’ll obey from now on.”

But the burst of light had done something. Made them realize I was serious. Made them see how desperate I was.

"Fine," Alerion said through gritted teeth. "FINE. He can talk. But we're all staying right here. And if he tries anything.."

"He won't," I countered. "Just let me listen to him. Please."
