Choosing attributes

[Would you like to start a new session?]

"Yes!" he declared, determined.

[These pages therefore remain blocked].

[These statistics are those attained by the host under ordinary circumstances in adulthood].

Adam quickly understood that, for example, in his last simulation, he was more likely to have 6 or 7 stat points in strength, agility and stamina due to his malnutrition.

[To improve each attribute, a stat point is required. Each stat point costs one Yxa point, i.e. once improved, the Yxa points are permanently consumed, but the stats also remain forever].

[Please note that all use of Yxa points is final and no refunds will be given].

However, if the host wishes, he can have other simulation profiles. Once other profiles are opened, you'll have a balance equivalent to the points you've already spent on your first simulation profile].

[For the time being, only one active profile is allowed].

[If the guest wishes to open a second profile, he or she must spend 100 Yxa points].

"Interesting, very interesting."

"It's like a roguelike game."

In his past life, Adam had spent a lot of time on games, and he particularly liked these games with high replayability.

Indeed, roguelike games meant that once you died or the game was over, rewards were given for starting a new game with advantages for going further in the game or doing more daring actions.

For example, there were roguelikes which suggested that, from the outset, a simple soldier should charge into the middle of enemy troops and go for the general, but this was impossible until numerous advantages had been accumulated.

The simulator worked in exactly the same way.

What's more, he could also play this simulator as he wished and without too much thought, since in the future he could open other profiles and thus test different ways of playing.

"Let's go for luck." Adam ordered with a smile.

In his opinion, as long as he was lucky he could survive longer and therefore earn more Yxa points, which was his primary objective in this world since he was still weak.

[Luck cannot be improved directly via Yxa points, other methods are necessary, notably via family background or via talents].

[Note that understanding and charisma are similar, and cannot be improved directly with Yxa points].

"Obviously, otherwise it would be too easy." Adam murmured, though disappointed all the same.

"So what to choose between strength and agility?"

He was really hesitating, endurance having been automatically excluded from his preferences.

In his last simulation, he'd been killed in a very short time, and even if his stamina had been doubled, he didn't think it would have made any difference.

"I can try to become some kind of strength monster that might allow me to get some opportunities in the army and in mercenary groups."

"If I choose agility, it would be more to try to become an assassin but you need the opportunity and luck to become that too."

"So the real advantage of agility at first, is running faster and having better reaction speed."

"Running faster might enable me to survive in tragic circumstances."

In a few thoughts Adam summed up the advantages of choosing agility at first, but at the same time he thought of the disadvantages.

"But I'd leave all my comrades behind if I had any at the time."

"And I noticed that reputation was important for the simulator, since it earned me 3 Yxa points, which is not insignificant."

"I don't know if doing this kind of shameful action could diminish the reward at the end of the simulation."

After taking stock of agility, he turned to strength to determine which attribute he should specialize in.

This was very important as it would directly determine his chances of survival, career opportunities and choices in the simulation.

"Better reaction speed also improves my character's combat sense, but I don't think it makes up for the strong brute."

"Indeed, at the beginning I won't have any fighting techniques, so brute strength is very important, if not decisive, in a fight."

"For example, if I'd had more strength, I could have beaten Alexis and the other two."

Thinking about it, Adam became irritated, but quickly managed to control himself.

"Never mind."

"Stamina is also very important, because you wear out very quickly due to stress, adrenalin and other factors."

"But obviously, my mind and memory are transferred to the simulation character."

"And I trust my mind to slightly overcome the shortcomings of having low stamina in the beginning."

Analyzing everything, and especially because he had an urge deep down to become a fierce general in the simulation, he made up his mind rather quickly.

"Let's invest the 5 points in strength."

[Insufficient balance.]

"Huh, why?" asked Adam aloud with annoyance.

[The first Yxa point invested in an attribute does provide one stat point, but the second costs 2 Yxa points, the third 3 points et cetera.]

Adam sighed slightly, feeling that he'd gone to a lot of trouble for very little.

In the end, his character would be rather balanced, just slightly strength-oriented, which wasn't a bad thing.

At the same time, he realized that this game would be difficult in many ways, but that was to be expected.

Otherwise after just a few simulations, he could be dozens of times stronger than ordinary people just by relying on attribute points which would be too easy.

"Let's go for 2 points in strength and a point in agility and endurance."

[5 points Yxa consumed]
