Jiraiya grinned.
"Come on, I'll take you to meet the two Sages."
"Yosh!"
Obito quickly followed in Jiraiya's footsteps.
As they walked, numerous stone toads came into view. These were the unfortunate souls who, without the protagonist's plot armor, had failed in their Sage Mode training.
Before long, the two arrived at a small hut perched on the mountain peak.
Without knocking, Jiraiya pushed open the door and led Obito inside.
A white-haired toad wearing a green robe chuckled.
"Oh, it's little Jiraiya."
Beside him stood another toad, smaller and light green, with purple hair tied in a bun.
Obito, who had seen Naruto, instantly recognized these two unimpressive-looking toads as none other than Fukasaku and Shima, the great Toad Sages.
Jiraiya gave them a slight nod, a gesture of respect, before introducing them to each other.
"Fukasaku-sama, Shima-sama, this is Uchiha Obito."
"Obito, these are Fukasaku and Shima, the Toad Sages."
Obito greeted them politely.
"Good day, Sages."
Fukasaku looked at Obito, a flicker of curiosity flashing in his eyes.
Was this the child foretold by the Great Toad Sage? The one who would change the course of the ninja world?
"Hello, Obito," Fukasaku said with a warm smile.
Meanwhile, Shima hopped further into the hut.
"Dear, we have a guest. Let me whip up something tasty!"
Hearing this, Jiraiya's expression changed slightly.
"Ah… Sages, I'll leave Obito in your capable hands. I have… urgent matters to attend to."
Fukasaku gave him a knowing smile.
"Go on, go on."
Jiraiya laughed awkwardly, then turned to Obito with a serious expression.
"Obito, make sure to follow their guidance. Understand?"
Obito nodded firmly.
"Don't worry, Jiraiya-sama. I will."
Satisfied, Jiraiya gave a small nod and left in a hurry, his laughter echoing down the mountain.
As soon as Jiraiya disappeared, Fukasaku guided Obito to sit down. The two began to chat, and Obito found Fukasaku surprisingly approachable. Not only was he entertaining, but he also seemed to know countless secrets about the ninja world.
The conversation flowed until Shima returned, hopping in with a tray of food.
She placed the bowls on the table and smiled at Obito.
"Obito, give it a try! Tell me if it suits your taste."
Obito stared into the bowl of colorful worms, his face instantly turning pale.
What… is this?
Stiffly lifting his head, he met Shima's expectant gaze.
"Don't just look, dear. Go ahead and eat while it's hot!"
Oh, no…
Could this even be eaten? Wouldn't he just… perish on the spot?
In his moment of despair, the ever-unhelpful system chimed in:
[Ding! You've encountered a choice.]
[Option 1]: Embrace the spirit of a true foodie—dig in with gusto! Reward: Perfect Sage Mode.]
[Option 2]: Declare, "I'd rather starve, jump off this mountain, and die outside than eat even a bite of this!" Reward: Basic Sage Mode.
Obito's inner voice howled:
System, I hate you!
The system responded gleefully:
"Hehehe~"
What else could he do? There was no real choice here!
Option 1 it is.
With trembling hands, Obito grabbed a handful of worms and forced them into his mouth.
His eyes widened—surprisingly, the taste wasn't bad… until he felt something wriggling.
Whether it was his imagination or Shima forgetting to cook them thoroughly, Obito could swear the worms were still moving. Tears streamed down his face as he forced himself to keep going.
One bite, two bites… gag. One bite, gag.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he managed to finish the entire bowl.
Shima beamed at him.
"I didn't expect you to enjoy my cooking so much! You even finished what I made for me and Fukasaku."
What?!
Obito froze in disbelief.
System, I hate you!!!
[Choice complete! Reward: Perfect Sage Mode unlocked.]
The system teased him smugly:
"You're welcome~"
Shima, meanwhile, happily cleared the dishes.
"Wait here, Obito. I'll make more for you and Fukasaku!"
Obito's face turned as white as a sheet.
"Shima-sama, no need! Really, I'm full!"
"Nonsense," Shima said cheerfully. "You don't need to be polite. Judging by how you devoured that last bowl, I can tell you're still hungry. I'll make extra this time!"
Obito wanted to cry but held it in.
I wasn't being polite. I'm really full!
...
After surviving the meal, Obito felt his face had turned a rainbow of colors.
"Now that we're done eating, let's begin your training," Fukasaku said.
Obito, his energy restored, nodded with determination.
"Yosh!"
Fukasaku and Shima hopped ahead, with Obito following close behind. They arrived at a training area in Mount Myoboku.
Fukasaku grabbed Obito's arm and smeared a sticky substance on it.
"This toad oil will help you absorb natural energy faster, but it's risky. If you lose control, you'll turn into a toad statue."
Shima watched expectantly, waiting for Obito to panic.
But to her surprise, he didn't react at all.
Why should he? He had already unlocked Perfect Sage Mode. What was there to worry about?
Fukasaku began explaining the process.
"Absorb the energy that flows through the world and balance it with your physical and spiritual energy… Stop all bodily movements and find the equilibrium within yourself, harmonizing with nature."
"Alright, sit here and meditate. I'll keep an eye on you."
He pulled out a massive black staff, taller than himself, and smiled at Obito.
Obito wiped the sweat from his brow.
"Understood, Fukasaku-sama."
Sitting cross-legged atop a giant stone toad, Obito closed his eyes and began to sense the flow of natural energy around him.
Before he could even prepare himself, the energy seamlessly blended with his chakra.
Huh?
