Since Roman Abramovich's arrival at Chelsea in 2003, the Blues transformed into a powerhouse. They achieved success both domestically and continentally, solidifying their status among Europe's elite.
Chelsea's rise, however, has not been warmly welcomed by Arsenal. Their fans, in particular, often criticize Chelsea fans who claim of being the best team in London, primarily due to their UEFA Champions League triumph.
Arsenal no longer wants to witness Chelsea's success. This season, they'd rather see Manchester City win the league than their blue neighbors.
On April 26, 2015, a crucial match between Arsenal and Chelsea took place at the Emirates Stadium.
At 3:30 PM, after a recovery session, Manchester City players gathered in the cafeteria to watch the highly anticipated Arsenal vs. Chelsea game, scheduled to kick off at 4:00 PM British Summer Time.
Arsenal lined up in a 4-5-1 formation with the starting XI featuring David Ospina; Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal; Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Özil, Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin; Olivier Giroud.
Meanwhile, Chelsea fielded a 4-2-3-1 formation with Thibaut Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Fabregas, Matic; Willian, Ramires, Hazard; Oscar.
The match kicked off at the Emirates Stadium with a moderate tempo. Arsenal, playing in a 4-5-1 setup, immediately sought to control the game through dominant possession. Santi Cazorla and Mesut Özil often acted as the creative hubs, while Alexis Sanchez was active on the left flank, making threatening runs.
Chelsea, on the other hand, opted for a more defensive approach, relying on quick counterattacks. Eden Hazard and Willian posed the main threats from the wings, using their pace to trouble Arsenal's backline.
Meanwhile, in the Manchester City cafeteria, Samir Nasri voiced his support for his former team.
"Come on, Gunners!" he cheered.
Kenneth and the others watched intently, hoping Arsenal could derail Chelsea's momentum in the title race.
In the 23rd minute, Cesc Fàbregas received a yellow card for a harsh tackle on Aaron Ramsey, who was orchestrating Arsenal's play in midfield. This foul exemplified Chelsea's physical approach to neutralizing Arsenal's creativity in the middle.
Arsenal continued to press, and their first golden opportunity came in the 28th minute. Aaron Ramsey delivered a through ball to Olivier Giroud, but the French striker's shot sailed over Thibaut Courtois' crossbar.
Chelsea responded with a counterattack in the 31st minute. Eden Hazard drove the ball from midfield and passed to Willian, whose shot was blocked by a perfectly timed intervention from Laurent Koscielny.
"Good block!" Gael Clichy remarked. "That was a great chance for Chelsea."
In the 34th minute, Francis Coquelin was booked after a late challenge on Oscar. Both teams were playing with high intensity, but neither managed to break the deadlock.
As the first half drew to a close, Arsenal kept piling on the pressure. A cross from Hector Bellerin nearly found Olivier Giroud, but Gary Cahill made a crucial interception to deny the chance. Chelsea, sticking to their counterattacking strategy, tried to exploit Arsenal's high line but failed to convert their opportunities.
The first half ended with the score still locked at 0-0, setting the stage for an intense second half.
The second half began with a bold change from Chelsea. Didier Drogba replaced Oscar, signaling José Mourinho's intent to bolster his attacking options. The Chelsea supporters erupted in cheers as the club legend took to the pitch, their hopes pinned on him securing a crucial victory.
"Drogba's on. Looks like Mourinho means business," said Ruben, Pellegrini's assistant coach, as he leaned back in his chair.
Kenneth nodded thoughtfully. "He's looking for that physical edge. Drogba can disrupt their backline."
Drogba's introduction immediately made Chelsea's attacks more menacing. While no longer as fast as he once was, Drogba served as an excellent target man, holding up the ball and drawing defenders to create space for his teammates. Arsenal stayed committed to their strategy of dominating possession, but Chelsea grew increasingly threatening as they pressed forward.
In the 52nd minute, Chelsea came agonizingly close to scoring. Willian whipped in a precise cross that Drogba met with a thunderous header. David Ospina, however, reacted brilliantly, diving to his right to parry the ball away.
"What a save!" exclaimed Samir Nasri, clapping his hands. "Ospina kept them alive with that one."
"Drogba still has that killer instinct," remarked David Silva, sipping his tea. "He's a real problem in the air."
The tension in the room mirrored the pitch as Mourinho gestured wildly on the touchline, urging his players forward. Chelsea's determination to break the deadlock was palpable.
In the 68th minute, Willian received a yellow card for cynically tripping Alexis Sánchez during an Arsenal counterattack. Willian's frustration was evident as he jogged away, shaking his head. Four minutes later, Branislav Ivanović followed suit, booked for a reckless challenge on Nacho Monreal near the sideline. Mourinho looked exasperated, shouting instructions to maintain discipline.
"These fouls are killing their momentum," commented Gaël Clichy, shaking his head. "They're playing into Arsenal's hands."
Arsène Wenger made a tactical adjustment in the 76th minute, bringing on Danny Welbeck for Francis Coquelin. The substitution injected pace into Arsenal's attack, with Welbeck immediately stretching Chelsea's defense.
As the match entered its final stages, Wenger made another bold move, replacing Olivier Giroud with Theo Walcott in the 84th minute. Arsenal aimed to exploit Walcott's speed in behind Chelsea's high line. Despite these changes, Chelsea continued to dominate possession, launching relentless waves of attacks.
In the 86th minute, Eden Hazard collected the ball in midfield and embarked on a dazzling run, weaving past Arsenal defenders with ease.
"Here we go," said Nasri, his eyes glued to the screen. "This is what Hazard does best."
"Look at him glide through," added Agüero, leaning forward. "He's unstoppable when he's in the mood."
As Hazard reached the edge of the box, Laurent Koscielny intervened with a perfectly timed sliding tackle, clearing the danger. Hazard fell to the ground, appealing for a foul, but the referee waved play on.
"What a tackle!" Kenneth exclaimed, clenching his fists. "That's how you defend under pressure."
The drama continued as Chelsea threw everything forward in search of a winner. Arsenal's defense, however, held firm, and the match ended in a tense 0-0 draw. In the City cafeteria, the players exchanged knowing glances. Chelsea's dropped points had just handed their title rivals an opportunity.
"Well, that was intense," Silva said, standing up and stretching. "But we know what we need to do next."
"Exactly," Kenneth replied, a determined glint in his eye. "It's our turn to step up."
"There we go, guys! We can do it! We can win the Premier League!" Aguero said enthusiastically, his excitement clear as the draw meant Chelsea was now just one point ahead of Manchester City.
Chelsea had to win all their remaining matches to secure the Premier League title. The challenge was daunting, especially since they still had to face Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool.
"This result is good for us," Kompany said with a measured tone. "But remember, we still have to win every game we have left. No matter how many times Chelsea slip up, if we lose or draw, they'll still take the title."
Kenneth smiled to himself, knowing he would be back on the pitch for City's next match. He was determined to ensure City won the Premier League this season. Forget the original timeline—he was going to chase the championship, even if it meant rewriting history.
