Chapter 4-  Finding the Treasure

Pov- Ivy

It has been a week since I first found the map and I decided to enact my plan to get past the bear today as I will have all day to do it. My plan is straightforward. First, I dig a big pit and make a classic pit fall trap with leaves on top so the bear cannot see it. That step is already done as I made the trap throughout the week.

The next part is that I place some fish in the middle of the trap and then make some noise. Hopefully, the bear will be attracted to the noise and find the fish. After seeing the fish, no bear would not want it so it will go eat the fish and then bam. It is caught. While it is caught, I go into its cave and find the treasure.

'Overall, a very simple plan if I do say so myself' I said to myself as I walked through the forest towards my trap. It does not take long, and I soon arrive at the pile of leaves I set up to hide the pit. I carefully laid the fish in the middle of the trap. I also set up a speaker by the edge of the pit. I then carefully climb behind nearby bushes to avoid the bears line of sight when he comes.

After I was all hidden, I decided to play a looped sound of rabbit noises. Now if asked to describe what that sounded like, I could not, but that does not matter if it got the bear's attention. As we got to the worst part of the plan, waiting.

~~~
It has been a couple of hours now since I started this little trap of mine. I am glad I did this on a weekend, or I would not have had time for this. At this point though I was really lacking hope that I could get the bears attention. 'I should really give this up for the day' I was saying to myself.
*Crack* *Crack* *Thud*
Just as I was about to get up, something happened to sneak up to my trap and fell in it. As I looked, I could see the bear, in my pit that I had dug. I was ecstatic that the bear had fallen into my pit. Until I realized I had one fatal error in my plan. I may have underestimated the size of the bear when I dung the trap. The pit that I had intended to have him trapped in for at least a few hours could easily be escaped by the bear in a couple of minutes.
Panic rushed through my head. The bear does seem occupied by the fish so that should stall him for a little while, but I do not know for how long for. Logically I should run away and try again another day, but my curiosity got the best of me. I ran towards the cave where the bear usually nested.
I soon reached the cave, but another issue occurred. I had no flipping clue where the treasure was in the cave. Just as I was about to start digging, a light flashed from two spots. One was in my back pocket where I had kept the map. The other was from a weird rectangle that was carved into the stone wall of this cave. I took out the map and compared it to the rectangle. The rectangle and the paper were the same size, so I placed the map into the rectangle in the wall.
When I fully let go of the map, it along with the wall behind it began to disappear. Once both were fully gone, I could see another chest located where the wall once was. I tried to grab the chest but realized that it was stuck so I instead decided to open the chest and just take what was inside.
Inside the mysterious chest lay a vile with weird green liquid inside. The vile was not alone though. Besides the vile there was also a note in the chest. I quickly grabbed the vile and not wanting to break it in a pocket or in my bag I decided to hold it. I then quickly read over the note which said,
'To those who have found my legacy this vile of liquid may seem useless, but it is my life's work. I have developed a formula that once poured on a plant will give said plant great strength and keep them in their prime forever. If they have yet to reach their prime, they will still grow to it and if they are past it, the plant will regress to it. That vile is all that is left of the batch I made for the rest was destroyed. Be warned though. If it touches an animal, it will act as a deadly poison and kill it without a doubt. Use my legacy well.
-From E.B.'
I stared in disbelief at the vile. Honestly, I really wanted to smash it here and now. 'I can't believe I risked my life for this piece of junk' I said to myself. I was hoping for a spell book or some sort of scissors that could cut through dimensions, but all I got was some dumb liquid that is poisonous to me. Right as I was about to smash the vile to the ground in anger I froze.
*Grrrrrr*
I looked over towards the entrance of the cave and there stood the bear that I had trapped earlier. I looked really mad at me for approaching its territory. It slowly approached further and further into the cave towards me. I started to back up away from the bear. As I was backing up, I ended up tripping on a rock and I panicked. I ended up cracking the vile right into my hand.
Glass cut my hand and hurt a lot, but I had no time to think about the pain. I dropped the vile to the floor and spilled some out onto the floor. Unfortunately, I was too late. I dragged myself away from the bear and the green liquid on the floor. Once I was away, I looked down at my hand and could see blood running down my hand but that did not worry me. What did was the green liquid being absorbed into my skin. Seeing that being absorbed was the last thing I remembered before passing out.
While Ivy was dealing with the liquid issues after tripping the bear just watched from the side. The bear, while initially not being afraid, did tense up at first at seeing the strange green liquid. After his prey had passed out the bear continued towards the passed-out girl with a great deal of confidence.
Just as the bear was about to step over the green liquid that was left on the floor some roots shot out of the floor and tripped him, and he landed face first in the liquid.
*Roarrrrrr*
As soon as the liquid touched his skin the bear was in a lot of pain and roared as loud as it could. The roaring did not last long because in a few seconds the bear was dead on the floor.
Shortly after the bear died its body started to dissolve. After a few minutes it was like the bear was never there in the first place.
While this was all happening the secret indent where the chest was stored was filled in like there was never a whole there to begin with.
All that was left in the cave was the passed-out Ivy who no longer had an injury on her hand at all and an empty glass vile devoid of any liquid.
Firstly sorry for taking so long. Secondly I wanted to say that I am so glad I do all my writing on a doc otherwise I would have just lost all my progress because I wanted to put somthing about the statistics of the book in this authors note but changed to this after having it all deleted when I went to look at those stats. Overall it was not a huge issue but it did scare me for a second.
