Chapter 7 Bryan Baker

Kelsie's eyes flew open immediately and she raised her eyes to look at the person only to see the man had turned his back on her.

He stood directly in front of her with his left hand akimbo on his waist and his right hand pressing his phone against his ear.

"Of course I'm no longer marrying that fat eyesore. I've been engaged to her sister for over six years now."

"Honestly, I'm thankful to the man who slept with her and got her pregnant. Thanks to him, I no longer have to live with the shame of having such an eyesore as a wife."

"Hey, hurry up and get here. You have to see my new fiancé. She's a beauty. She's Kelsie's younger sister, but she's way more beautiful."

"The sisters are more like beauty and the beast. But in this case, the beast is so ugly no one even wants it around for any reason."

"I'm not exaggerating how ugly she is. Why don't you hurry, I hear she'd be coming to the engagement too after being abroad for the past six years. Who knows how hideous she now looks after birthing a child."

Kelsie wished there was a way to zone out his voice and go back to sleep, but he kept shouting loudly as he spoke to the person on the phone.

The male guests around kept glancing towards his direction with a wide smile on their faces and lurked around, patiently waiting him to end his call.

Most of them only attended the engagement party because of the Baker family. This was a good opportunity to get close to their heir.

As soon as his call finally ended, they all swarmed to him with sweet smiles and flattering words.

"Mr. Baker, do you remember me? Charlie Kingston, we met a few months ago in Zeen."

"You're really taking a bold step getting married at such an early age. I know quite a lot of boys your age and they're rather enjoying their youth. The thought of settling down now is still something very strange to them."

"It's not easy to make the decision to get married. And I heard he's been engaged to Laura Sutton for the last six years. Which means you've had a lot of time to decide if you really want this."

"I may not be as young as you, but I believe I'm just a few years older than you and I've been married for three years. If you need marital help in the future, do come to me and I'd be sure to offer you a valuable piece of advice regarding women and how they love to be handled."

"Who better to seek advice from than people who have been married for more than three years? Mr. Baker, I'm Justin Newton and I've been married for over ten years. I believe I'd have even better insight on marriage if you happen to be facing any problem in yours in the future."

"Gentlemen, can you stop taking about his marriage and the problem he'd have in it? Mr. Baker has been engaged to Miss Laura Sutton for over six years now. Isn't that enough to tell you he already knows a lot about marriage? I mean, it's only right for such a deliberate man like him."

"Furthermore, we're at his engagement party, we shouldn't be talking about something as scary as problems in marriage when we can just enjoy the moment with him."

"You're absolutely right. In that case, I'd like to make a toast to Mr. Baker and his future marriage. May it be a blissful one."

Kelsie sighed heavily and changed her seat to the empty spot next to the corridor leading to the kitchen and sealed her eyes shut again, but their loud voices still didn't let her nap.

So she sat up and dialed Jerry Sutton's number again, but just like the first time she tried, none of the calls were answered.

He was hurrying her to come over, but he couldn't even be around his phone to answer it when she called?

She turned off the screen of her phone and got up, slipping it into her pocket as she did.

Now that she was standing, everyone around could see how odd she looked amongst the lavishly dressed guests.

While the women were decked in expensive and flattering dresses, she had come to the party wearing a fitted black t-shirt, tucked into high-waisted white pants that gave her a sleek, minimalist edge.

A black belt cinched her waist, offering a bold contrast to the crisp white pants, while a simple silver watch on her wrist and a delicate necklace added a touch of understated elegance.

Despite how odd she looked, she looked effortlessly stunning and majestic in what she was wearing that everyone forgot they were judging her for dressing so simply and almost forgot to breathe.

Naturally, Bryan wondered why everyone's attention had suddenly shifted from him. So he too glanced behind him to see what they were all looking at.

When he saw her, his jaw almost dropped to the floor and his eyes widened in disbelief.

"How could one be this gorgeous!" He subconsciously blurted out.

Laura Sutton had just come out of the corridor leading to the kitchen and walked past Kelise when he said this.

The living room was extremely silent, so she could hear him from where she was across the room.

Thinking he was referring to her, she halted instantly and her cheeks turned beet red in happiness. She lowered her eyes shyly to the floor and fidgeted with her fingers shyly.

"Don't be like that, Bryan. I barely put on any makeup and this dress was handpicked after two hours of trying to find what to wear. It's something I just decided to wear this morning."

"I'm flattered that you think I'm gorgeous. I promise that I'll try harder to look even better than this when we get married!"
