Lin Fan hovered in the air, observing the scene below. Ke Lan lay quietly on the ground, having been knocked unconscious by a sweep of the giant dragon's tail. She wasn't seriously injured, just a bit bruised and battered.
Olivia and the others arrived and carried Ke Lan away. As her teammates, they witnessed Ke Lan's selfless act of drawing the dragon's attention away from them, a moment they would never forget, a memory etched into their hearts forever. Even if it meant sacrificing their lives in the future, it would be worth it. Perhaps this was the ultimate expression of friendship.
"Will, please come out," Lin Fan whispered.
When faced with the unknown, seeking the Will was the wisest choice.
The Will of this world was muddled, as if not fully awakened, its intelligence half-formed. However, until now, no one had been able to contact it.
"Hello, can you replay the events that just transpired here?" Lin Fan asked politely.
His attitude was far more amicable than their last encounter.
The Will was a little surprised, or perhaps unaccustomed to such a friendly approach. After all, this guy usually spoke in a commanding tone. Faced with such a terrifying individual, as the Will, upholding the positive energy of heaven and earth, wasn't it normal to be helpful?
"Certainly, it's a small matter," the Will transmitted its voice into Lin Fan's mind.
Soon, a scene appeared before Lin Fan. The Will replayed the events that had just occurred. The dragon soared through the sky. Ke Lan, to protect her teammates and the villagers, deliberately drew the dragon's attention.
"Truly brave, I'm proud," Lin Fan said, feeling a surge of pride for his daughter's actions. Protecting friends and the weak, just like him. He never bullied the weak. A smile played on his lips until the replay ended.
Just as he was basking in this pride, the seemingly simple-minded Will brought up something with Lin Fan.
"Can I talk to you about something?" it asked, its tone humble.
This wasn't something a Will would typically do. Every Will was the absolute ruler of order born from the world, maintaining its operation and creating infinite possibilities.
"Sure, go ahead," Lin Fan smiled. Seeing such an excellent Ke Lan put him in a good mood. If he was willing to help before, now he was especially willing.
The difference might seem subtle, but it was significant.
The Will said, "Could you spare the dragons? The world's capacity for inclusion is infinite. Every race is an indispensable part of this world. They belong here. You're almost eating them all."
Thinking of the dragons' tragic plight, the Will felt a pang of heartache. How could such a terrifying being exist?
"Dragons?" Lin Fan was puzzled. Then, recalling the small animals he usually ate, he asked, "Are the dragons you're talking about the little animals I eat?"
"Yes."
"Oh, some of them have quite good meat, but others, not so much. My daughter and I don't really like those," Lin Fan said slowly, as if discussing a trivial matter.
Anyone overhearing this would be outraged. Was he even human? Those were dragons, not small animals! To even think of eating them was terrifying, horrific even.
The Will didn't really want to speak. It felt like communicating with him was incredibly difficult, truly heartbreaking. If possible, it didn't want to discuss such heavy topics.
Just as the Will was at a loss for words, Lin Fan said, "Alright, I'll grant your request. But can you tell me where that dragon from earlier is?"
He had no ulterior motive. He simply realized the dragon's strength was a bit excessive. Ke Lan wasn't ready to face such powerful "little animals" yet. She needed to take it slow, step by step, no rushing, no skipping ahead.
In the end, the Will told Lin Fan the location of the dragons.
You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. It was a perfectly normal arrangement. Absolutely no other meaning implied.
At the dragon's territory...
Moby returned absent-mindedly, as if he had done something wrong outside, his mood low.
"Brother Moby, didn't you just leave? Why are you back?" a fellow dragon asked.
Moby replied, "It's not fun out there. It's more fun here in the clan."
"How can that be? Everyone says it's fun outside, that you can find glittering treasures. Many of our kin love to collect those things out there."
His fellow dragon hadn't yet realized that Brother Moby had gotten into trouble outside. He was worried, afraid, fearing he had encountered the dragon-eating demon everyone talked about. It was truly terrifying.
Moby didn't want to talk to him, not a single word. He was preoccupied, burdened with worries. Even his favorite pretty female dragon inviting him to catch fish by the lake couldn't pique his interest.
Once, their dragon clan reigned supreme. Who dared provoke them? Unfortunately…times had changed.
Since the appearance of a terrifying dragon-eating human many years ago, the dragons' living environment had faced immense challenges, leaving them in constant fear, never knowing who the next victim would be. They could only live precariously, staying honestly within the clan, unable to go anywhere. Some wealthy dragons who had made their fortunes outside, their bodies gleaming gold, adorned with various human jewelry and trinkets, used to come back to show off. But they hadn't been seen for several years now.
Although unspoken, everyone knew in their hearts that they were most likely gone…possibly completely departed from this world, having met a terrible end.
At this moment, a ripple appeared in the sky above the dragon territory. A figure emerged.
Lin Fan looked at the surrounding environment. It was indeed quite nice, an island floating in the vast ocean, dragons circling around it. Truly impressive.
"This color of dragon has the best meat."
"That color is no good. Ke Lan said the meat is too dry, hard to swallow."
As a dedicated father, he used to spend his days thinking about what kind of delicious food to prepare for Ke Lan so she could eat well and grow plump and fair. So, when it came to food, he was quite experienced.
With Lin Fan's arrival, the dragons were startled. Someone had actually appeared in their territory. This was unbelievable to them.
The Dragon Island had absolute restrictions, like the Dragon Language magic Moby had used earlier, the Anti-Magic Field. Ordinary people could only reach the island by boat.
So, when Lin Fan floated in the air, all the dragons were shocked, as if they had seen a ghost. How did he get in?
This was what all the dragons wanted to know, but now wasn't the time to ponder such things. An outsider had arrived, and they couldn't just pretend nothing had happened.
"Who are you?" a giant dragon soared over, flapping its wings as it questioned.
It eyed Lin Fan warily, ready for battle at any moment.
Lin Fan smiled and said, "Little animal, please call your adults out. I have something to say to them."
"What? Little animal?" The dragon was enraged, feeling utterly humiliated. They, the dragon clan, were among the noblest of races, and now this guy who appeared called him a little animal?
Who could tolerate that?
It wanted to incinerate him with a single breath of dragon fire.
But recalling that he had breached the Anti-Magic Zone and appeared here, it was enough to show that he was definitely not as simple as it seemed.
Roaring, it called out to its brethren.
Enemy attack! Enemy attack!
Soon, a large number of dragons flew in from afar.
Lin Fan said, "I bear no ill will. I'm just looking for a dragon. He did something he shouldn't have. But I won't do anything to him. Just as a father, I need to vent some anger for my dear daughter."
He spoke the most domineering words in the gentlest tone.
Who would dare to appear in the dragon's lair and say such disrespectful things? Honestly, not many.
At this moment, a group of dragons glared at Lin Fan, as if they would swarm him if he dared to act rashly.
"Move aside."
A calm voice came.
The dragons, seeing the arriving dragon, stepped aside. It was Vir, one of the four Dragon Kings of the Dragon Clan, the Ice Frost Dragon.
Vir, seeing the human who appeared in the dragon territory, had a serious expression.
"What are you doing here?" Vir asked in a deep voice.
He wouldn't forget this human. His power was terrifying, possessing the strength to slay dragons. The incident at the border was vivid in his mind, how he casually dealt with the dragons.
He didn't know why the human had spared them that time.
If he had truly wanted to kill them, perhaps none would have escaped.
"Have we met?" Lin Fan asked curiously, studying Vir carefully. Honestly, he didn't recognize him. Dragons all looked the same to him. Even if they had met once, it was just a fleeting encounter.
Vir was furious. Damn it, they had clearly met, and he dared to ask if they had met! How infuriating!
No matter what, he, Vir, was one of the four Dragon Kings, his status lofty. Apart from the Dragon Emperor, he held the highest position in the dragon clan. Now, this hateful human was so disrespectful, it had completely enraged him.
But he could only bury this anger in his heart.
He was no match for this human.
Why bother asking for trouble?
Seeing that Vir didn't speak, Lin Fan smiled and said, "Oh, I remember now. It's you. Long time no see."
So fake.
This acting was a bit exaggerated.
Vir said, "You've come to the dragon territory. What exactly do you want?"
He still didn't know that this person before him was the human demon who loved to eat dragon meat.
"I'm looking for a dragon," Lin Fan said.
"Who?" Vir asked warily. This person appearing here for no apparent reason couldn't be a good sign.
"I don't know," Lin Fan shook his head.
Vir said, "You don't even know who it is, and you've come here? Or do you really think the dragon clan is so easy to bully, that you can do as you please?"
Being in his homeland gave him more confidence to speak. Unlike before…when there was only fear.
