Ch 28 - Forbidden Crush on Teacher ~Wild Hormones~

Transfiguration class didn't go too badly for Kaguya, as they had to turn a beetle into a button.

But Ron couldn't do any spells properly, because his wand was taped together.

He told Kaguya about his adventure to get to Hogwarts in a flying car, and how he broke his wand trying to stop it.

She helped him as best she could, but McGonagall had it in for her not to do the spell for Ron.

It was going very well until just last minute when McGonagall received a small parchment delivered by a girl into her class.

It was sent by her friend Pomona.

Her cheeks frowned deeply and she marched straight towards the desk of a certain girl whose lips were shaking, tried to ignore teacher's coming and paid attention to her beetle.

"In the name of Crimson Demons, let transformation of beetles manifest!"

"Explosion!"

For a second, her wand sparked, and her face lit up, thinking it had worked.

But then, with a loud POP, the beetle didn't transform-it exploded, sending bits of beetle and a plume of green smoke across her desk.

A few startled shrieks erupted around her as the students shielded themselves from the flying remnants.

McGonagall's face turned ashen. "Miss Nutley!" she said, her voice sharp as a blade.

Grace's cheeks flushed as the Slytherins erupted into snickers, and even a few Gryffindors couldn't hide their shock.

Adrian Burke laughed, nudging his friends. "Guess she found a new way to get rid of bugs."

One of Grace's friends, Emily, reached over to pat her shoulder.

"It's alright, Grace," she whispered, but her face was still contorted in a look of barely hidden surprise.

Professor McGonagall was not as comforting.

She stood before Grace, lips pressed into a thin line, eyes blazing. "That was not only irresponsible but also dangerous, Miss Nutley! I warned you about the importance of focus."

Grace huffed, brushing bits of beetle remains off her sleeves, her cheeks red with embarrassment and anger.

"Maybe if you'd shown us properly, Professor, this wouldn't have happened," she muttered under her breath.

"Oh, dear," Hermione whispered, ducking her head as she stifled a giggle. "She's gone and said it now."

But Professor McGonagall's sharp hearing caught the muttered comment, and her usually kind eyes turned steely, "That's quite enough, Nutley! Perhaps a bit of patience and attention to detail would serve you well." Her voice was cold.

"And rest assured, I'll be having a word with your parents about your attitude in Herbology class."

Grace's eyes widened as she realized she might have taken it too far.

She opened her mouth to protest, but the look on Professor McGonagall's face silenced her.

Grace squirmed in her seat, avoiding McGonagall's piercing stare. "It's just... you didn't give very clear instructions," she said, attempting to defend herself. "And those beetles are hard to transfigure. I tried my best!"

McGonagall raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "It is quite clear to me, Miss Nutley, that trying your best should not involve insulting a professor in front of the entire class."

Her voice hardened. "If a lack of instructions were the issue, I hardly think every other student in the room would have managed without blasting their beetle to bits."

Grace bit her lip, stifling a retort. "It's not fair," she mumbled, though she dared not raise her voice.

"Fair?" McGonagall repeated, her tone incredulous. "I will tell you what is fair, Miss Nutley. Fair is you being assigned detention with Hagrid in the Forbidden Forest this evening. Perhaps a little humility and a closer look at creatures not reduced to dust will teach you some respect for your studies-and your professors."

At that, Grace's composure crumbled.

Her face turned pale. "The Forbidden Forest?" she squeaked, glancing at McGonagall with a mixture of horror and pleading. "But it's...it's forbidden and dangerous! What if I get bitten or-"

McGonagall's lips thinned into a line. "Hagrid will be with you, and you'll be perfectly safe under his supervision," she said firmly.

"But they say Hagrid is nuts!"

"Enough, a little time outside Gryffindor Tower should give you plenty of space to reflect on today's misbehavior."

Grace sank into her chair, resigned and visibly frightened.

"Yes, Professor," she muttered, barely able to look McGonagall in the eye.

"Good," McGonagall replied crisply. "Now be at Hagrid's hut by seven sharp."

She nodded toward the door since class has ended, and Grace Nutley, defeated, slipped out of the room, already dreading what lay ahead.

"I admit Gryffindors are really brave," Kaguya whispered to Ron who now seemed to have realised there is actually someone more idiot than him.

At end of that class, and finishing lunch, Kaguya was again (just like last year in McGonagall's class) the first to arrive.

It was Defense Against the Dark Arts class and she was not least bit enthusiastic. 'I didn't know if it was because of the hatred I had for the former teacher of the subject, or because Lockhart would be the teaching this year....'

She sat down at the front, taking out a piece of parchment and her quill to get ready, but as other students arrived she became distracted doodling in corner of the parchment.

She was so distracted that she didn't notice that Hermione seemed to be on a pink cloud next to her.

Kaguya wanted to ignore her presence, but the way she sighed every time Lockhart breathed was unbearable.

"I---" he said, pointing to a giant painting of himself and then winking at himself, "am Gilderoy Lockhart, Knight of the Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the League for the Defense Against the Forces of Darkness, and five-time winner of the Witch's Heart Magazine's Most Charming Smile Award, but I don't want to talk about that. It wasn't with my smile that I got rid of the banshee that foretold death!"

Kaguya made a face of complete disgust. Hermione seemed to be in love.

"I see you've all bought my complete works; well done. I thought we could start today with a little quiz. Don't worry, it's just to check if you've read my books properly."

He even started handing out the questionnaire sheets.

If Kaguya could skip one class for the rest of the school year, she would choose this one.

What is Gilderoy Lockhart's favorite color?

'Because of these kinds of questions, I was seriously thinking of bunking this class until Dumbledore could find a better teacher...'

"You are so frustrating when you are in love," Kaguya complained, tired of her partner getting excited if Lockhart approached her, "Poor your future boyfriend."

"You complain that I'm cheesy," Hermione glanced at the parchment her own partner had been scribbling on, "But at least I don't write the name of my crush on my parchments!"

Kaguya raised her eyebrows, not knowing what Hermione was referring to.

She looked at her parchment and noticed that bottom part was filled with the name "Tom" written in different ways.

But she hadn't done that, she swore she was just making meaningless lines and circles.

"I bet..." Kaguya stopped looking at her parchment to look at Hermione's angry face, "That you have the teacher's name written down surrounded by hearts somewhere."

Look, Hermione blushed with embarrassment, as she had indeed circled Lockhart's classes with hearts on her schedule.

Kaguya had seen the girl blush with anger or pride, but had never noticed Hermione blushing with embarrassment.

The tops of her cheeks were painted pink and she began to look around in search of a good answer.

'I would have continued looking at her if it weren't for the fact that my sane side had kicked in. Even if I didn't want to, I had to answer the teacher's questionnaire with a model complex.....'

"It seems that everyone forgot that my favorite color is purple," The teacher spoke after collecting the questionnaires.

"But look, Miss Hermione Granger remembered that my secret ambition is to annihilate evil from the world and sell my hair potions... Who is Hermione?"

Hermione, who was looking at the teacher with admiration, raised her hand with a smile.

"What a girl," Lockhart winked at the class again, "ten points more for Gryffindor."

Hermione seemed to be enthralled getting points after being rejected and humiliated in Greenhouse today.

Kaguya turned her head to the right, where Theo and Draco were sitting, and made a face of disgust pretending to throw up.

The two boys laughed, but Pansy, who was in front of them, looked at her a little seriously.

"Now," the teacher suddenly spoke, "It is my job to prepare you to face the greatest beasts of magic."

He took a cage from behind his desk and placed it on a stool in front of the class.

The cage was covered by a purple cloth.

"Perhaps this is the moment where you face your most terrible fears. Know that nothing will happen to you, with me as your teacher," Lockhart put his hand on the cover.

Kaguya stopped laughing and for a moment she and Hermione got closer thanks to fear.

"Refrain from laughing, you might infuriate them!"

When Black saw the Cornish pixies, she actually burst out laughing.

"Yes?" the teacher asked her with a smile, being honest he was just looking for a bait.

"They don't look very dangerous," Kaguya tried to reply with a straight face, using elegant voice.

"Goblins can sing... Let's see what they can do," Lockhart opened the cage and immediately the creatures came out to start tormenting the students.

Pixies took their things, broke things, and even lifted Neville Longbottom up and hung him from the chandelier.

Kaguya covered herself with the table, watching those creatures.

"Do something! Aren't you a teacher?" she demanded of the Professor.

Lockhart tried to cast the spell to calm them down but the pixies took his wand.

"• ! ×" Kaguya had to resist the urge to curse the Professor when she saw him run and hide in his office, "I will kill him."

Hermione stood on her chair and pointed her wand at the creatures "Immobulus!"

It made Kaguya stand up from under her table and look at Hermione with a grimace, "Let me tell you, Granger, you have terrible taste in teachers."

Hermione glared at her.

Everyone helped put the pixies away and ran off when the bell rang.

Then Gryffindors came back to get Neville down from the chandelier, who seemed to have been crying.
