Under Will Varner's terrified gaze, Sharlo placed a large hand on his head. Activating his Observation Haki, Sharlo demanded, "How did you train your Armament Haki?"
Will Varner, consumed by pain, had no intention of answering. But Sharlo wasn't expecting him to speak; he intended to read his thoughts. Through his Observation Haki, Sharlo learned that Will Varner had battled his way from the West Blue to the second half of the Grand Line within a year. He had obtained the training method for Armament Haki after killing a Marine Rear Admiral and finding a training notebook on his body. The notebook also contained methods for Observation Haki and the Navy's Rokushiki techniques. Due to his natural talent, Will Varner had only mastered Armament Haki, while his attempts to learn Observation Haki and the other Rokushiki techniques had failed.
With the information secured, Sharlo tightened his grip, and Will Varner's eyes bulged before he was crushed to death. Sharlo turned to the remaining twenty pirates on the port, signaling his subordinates to step forward.
"Kill them all," Sharlo commanded calmly.
His followers, despite turning pale, began executing the pirates. Sharlo, meanwhile, headed towards the pirate ship, eager to search for treasure—a habit he enjoyed besides pursuing women.
Using Will Varner's memories as a guide, Sharlo went straight to the captain's cabin and found a notebook in a drawer. Confirming it was the Marine's training manual, he pocketed it and continued searching the ship. In various drawers and cabinets, he found three suitcases filled with berries, estimating them to be worth around three hundred million.
Satisfied, Sharlo left the ship and returned to the bustling port, now filled with curious dockworkers and merchants. They stared in awe and fear at the corpses strewn across the dock. The town mayor, Chamberlain, approached Sharlo, shaking his hand gratefully.
"Thank you, Mr. Sharlo! You saved the people of Came Island. You're our hero!" Chamberlain exclaimed.
Sharlo, aware of Chamberlain's true thoughts through his Observation Haki, almost laughed but maintained a serious demeanor. The crowd began chanting "Hero! Hero!" and Sharlo felt his Observation Haki resonate with their emotions, making him smile and wave.
"Dammit, not again," Sharlo muttered, trying to shake off the overpowering emotions. He wanted to escape the crowd but paused at a fruit stand when he spotted a peculiar pear with strange patterns.
"Mr. Sharlo!" The fruit vendor stammered, excitedly recognizing him.
"How much for this pear? I'll take a few," Sharlo said nonchalantly.
"No need to pay! Take whatever you want!" the vendor insisted, trembling with admiration.
Sharlo picked a few fruits, including the patterned pear, and left without guilt. Back at his villa, he instructed the staff to prepare a meal and quickly retreated to his room. Alone, he examined the patterned fruit.
"This is the Chill-Chill Fruit, the same fruit Will Varner had!" Sharlo exclaimed, thrilled. It was the first Devil Fruit he had encountered in his five years in this world, but he didn't plan to eat it. He would save it for a trusted subordinate.
After locking the fruit in a safe, Sharlo settled on the sofa and began reading the Marine's training manual. It contained comprehensive instructions for mastering the Rokushiki techniques and Haki. Sharlo, recalling his past life's memories, had attempted to train in Rokushiki before but hadn't fully understood them. With this manual, his strength would increase significantly.
After thoroughly reading the section on Armament Haki, Sharlo realized it combined heart, body, and skill. With the proper training, anyone with a sufficiently strong body could master it. Excited, he closed the notebook, eager to start training, but decided to wait until morning.
Exiting his room, he found Ivan waiting for him.
"Boss, we've sent Will Varner's body to claim the bounty. We also found about thirty million berries on the ship," Ivan reported, holding a large bag of money.
"Distribute the berries among those who fought today. Also, make ten copies of this," Sharlo said, handing Ivan the Rokushiki manual. "Have the fighters start training tomorrow. I want to see results in a year."
Ivan nodded, promising to ensure everyone trained diligently. Sharlo knew that even if only ten of his fifty fighters mastered one technique in a year, it would be a significant improvement.
