Chapter 23: The Investigation
Michael, Emily, and Agent Thompson decided to split up and search for clues individually.
They agreed to meet back at the agency in a few hours to compare notes.
Michael started by questioning Lucas, trying to see if he remembered anything.
But Lucas' memories were still fuzzy, and he couldn't recall anything useful.
Emily went to the school's library, researching any connections between Helios and the school.
She found an old yearbook with a photo of a student named Elian, who looked eerily similar to Helios.
Agent Thompson went to the local police station, asking if anyone had seen or heard anything suspicious.
She got a lead on a possible hideout location.
As they reconvened at the agency, they shared their findings.
Michael mentioned Lucas' lack of memories, Emily showed the yearbook photo,
and Agent Thompson revealed the potential hideout location.
"This could be our break," Agent Thompson said. "Let's gear up and check out the hideout."
As they prepared to head out, Michael's phone rang. It was an unknown number.
"Hello?" Michael answered.
"You're getting close," a distorted voice said. "Back off now, or you'll face the consequences."
Michael decided to reach out to Alex for help. He called Alex's number, hoping he'd answer.
"Hey, Alex. It's Michael. I need your help," Michael said, filling Alex in on the situation with Helios.
Alex listened intently, his interest piqued. "Mind control? That sounds serious. I'm in."
Michael briefed Alex on the details, including the hideout location.
Alex agreed to meet them there.
When Alex arrived, Emily and Agent Thompson were surprised to see him.
"Alex! What are you doing here?" Emily asked.
"Michael called me in. I've got skills that can help take down Helios," Alex replied confidently.
Agent Thompson nodded. "We can use all the help we can get.
Let's get to work."
As they entered the warehouse, Alex took the lead, his experience guiding them through the dimly lit space.
Suddenly, Alex stopped, his eyes fixed on something. "What's this?" he whispered.
A large screen displayed a cryptic message: "The Phoenix rises. The clock ticks down."
Alex approached the screen, his eyes scanning the message.
"This looks like a countdown timer," he said, pointing to a digital clock ticking away on the screen.
"But what's the Phoenix refer to?"
Michael frowned. "I don't know, but we need to figure it out fast."
Emily examined the screen more closely. "I think I've seen this symbol before," she said, pointing to a small icon next to the message. "It looks like an ancient Greek symbol for rebirth."
Agent Thompson's eyes narrowed. "Rebirth? That doesn't sound good."
Alex nodded. "I think I know what this might be about.
Helios is planning something big, and it's connected to an old legend about the Phoenix."
Michael's eyes widened. "What legend?"
Alex hesitated. "It's said that the Phoenix can be reborn from its own ashes, but at a great cost.
I think Helios is planning to use the mind control device to create a new world order,
and he's using the Phoenix as a symbol of his power."
The group exchanged worried glances. They knew they had to act fast..
