VALERIC met her eyes and then averted them to the floor as if he couldn't bring himself to make eye contact. But Stella was curious. She wanted to know what exactly was going on around him and with him. 

"I…was born this way."  

"Born…this way?" 

"Yes. I have a disorder that makes it difficult for me to feel emotions. That is why I can't care, even if there is a need to." With each word said, his voice grew quieter and quieter. "It is why I find it very difficult to understand you. I have only done things with common sense and never with emotions. So, I can never understand you like I should." 

Stella stared at him, her eyes round and probing. This was why? This was the reason he was like this? She had always thought him to be weird, like a robot without feelings, but never in a million guesses did she think the man had difficulty with emotions. 

"So, since you knew what your father does to omegas around you, why did you take me?"
