Chapter 1The Regret- 1

Inside a medium-sized room in Kyoto City, Japan, two figures lay on a bed, a blanket gently covering them. The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow on the room. One of the figures was a black-haired man in his late twenties, and the other was a beautiful black-haired woman, also in her late twenties.

They were Ryuuma Gatou and Emi Gatou, a newlywed couple who had graduated from the same college and recently started their life together.

Ryuuma, who had been sleeping soundly, suddenly opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling fan spinning lazily above him. His face was expressionless as if he were a stranger in the room.

Without making a sound, he removed the blanket from his body and sat up, his gaze shifting to the woman sleeping peacefully beside him. He took a moment to look around the room, absorbing the familiarity yet feeling oddly disconnected.

Quietly, he stood and walked into the bathroom, locking the door behind him to ensure he wouldn't be disturbed. Standing before the mirror, he stared at his reflection, his mind racing.

'Star, are you here?' Ryuuma mentally spoke, his eyes fixed on his reflection.

The Star Guide is here, host.

'Give me the memories,' Ryuuma ordered, bracing himself. Moments later, he felt a rush of foreign memories flooding his mind.

The process stung, but it was bearable. Ryuuma had endured far worse pain in the past. As the memories settled, he began to sift through them, understanding the life of the body's previous owner.

It took only a minute for Ryuuma to process the memories. He nodded to himself, acknowledging that his new life wasn't bad.

He had married his love, secured a good job in a prestigious company, and bought a house in Kyoto City, fulfilling his parents' dream for him.

Does the host want to access memories of future events? The mission has been generated as well.

'Sure, go ahead,' Ryuuma ordered calmly. 'And synchronise him with me.'

Synchronisation is necessary if you want to show real emotions toward people the original owner of the body was close.

In his mind, a video began to play, showing the future that the original Ryuuma had experienced. It was a future that led him to end his life and make a contract with the Star Guide system.

The Star Guide system is an enigmatic entity that selects ten random people from Earth each year to become its hosts. These hosts transmigrate into different worlds, where they must complete missions assigned by the original owners of the bodies they inhabit, owners who had died miserably.

When the video ended, Ryuuma clenched his fists involuntarily. A furious expression flickered across his face before he forced it away.

The story revealed that his wife had been taken away by their college teacher, eventually leaving him for the teacher. The betrayal and heartbreak drove the original Ryuuma to desperation.

'What is the mission here? Inform me of the objectives,' Ryuuma asked, his voice steady.

Mission: The original Ryuuma isn't happy with how things ended, prompting him to make a contract with the Star Guide system.

**Objectives:**

1. Do something about his wife, though the original Ryuuma doesn't want her to suffer miserably.

2. Take revenge on the teacher who took away his wife.

**Rewards:** Depends on how the host completes the mission.

'The second objective is quite easy for me, but for the first one, I'll need to figure something out…' Ryuuma thought, frowning. 'Give me my abilities and then show me my status page.'

The host's abilities are being returned…

A warm current spread through his body as his abilities began to enhance his physique to the peak of human potential. These abilities were rewards from the system, acquired centuries ago.

Now, he was back, ready to face new and strange worlds to improve himself.

**Name:** Ryuuma Gatou (Darien Dragonheart)

**Age:** 27

**Race:** Human

**World:** The Regret

**Abilities:**

- Essence of the Dominator

- Essence of the Sword of Victory

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he closed the status screen and opened the bathroom door. He walked back to the mirror and began brushing his teeth.

While he was busy brushing, Emi woke up and entered the bathroom, her presence filling the room with a gentle warmth.

"Good morning, Gatou-kun," Emi greeted him with a smile, picking up her toothbrush.

"Morning," Ryuuma replied calmly, continuing to brush his teeth.

"Something wrong?" Emi asked, noticing his demeanour. "You seem angry, or is it just me?"

"Angry? No, I'm not," Ryuuma shook his head with a chuckle. "I just had a nightmare. I guess I'm still affected by it."

"Nightmare? What kind of nightmare?" Emi asked, her eyes filled with concern. "Don't tell me it was about your parents again?"

She knew he frequently had nightmares about his parents, who had died in a tragic accident.

"It was related to you," Ryuuma replied, his voice steady. "I saw you do something that made me very angry."

She was about to ask what it was when he suddenly turned to look at her. His eyes were devoid of emotion, making her uneasy.

"You were cheating on me if you want to know," Ryuuma said before rinsing his mouth.

"W-What? You know I would never do that," Emi said, her voice a mix of shock and hurt.

"I know, but my mind doesn't believe it…" Ryuuma said with a forced smile. "Just give me some time alone. I'll be fine."

Seeing him so cold towards her, Emi felt deeply hurt. He had never behaved this way before, making her worry about his dream.

"He must have had an awful nightmare…" Emi mumbled, concerned. She wanted to console him but held back, remembering his cold eyes.

"Let's make his favourite breakfast…" Emi said with a determined smile. "I'm sure he'll be in a better mood by then."

While she brushed her teeth, Ryuuma left the bathroom and walked back into the bedroom, ignoring her completely.

Though hurt by his actions, Emi decided to endure it and headed to the shower.

With a towel wrapped around his waist, Ryuuma picked up his phone and sent a message to his manager, informing him that he wouldn't be able to come to work for two days due to a sudden high fever.

After tossing his phone on the bed, he selected clothes from the wardrobe: a white shirt and black trousers. After combing his hair, he sat at the table and turned on his laptop.

Despite his good job, he didn't want to work for someone else, especially not for eight hours a day. So, he opened a document and decided to write one of the famous novels from his previous world. With his talent for drawing, he planned to turn it into a manga as well.

After some thought, he decided on the light novel *Death Note*, a series about shinigami, detectives, and murders. He was confident it would become popular quickly, giving him enough money to quit his job.

Clearing his mind, he began typing at a fast speed.

Almost half an hour later, Emi finished her shower and entered the bedroom, changing into fresh clothes. While combing her hair, she walked behind Ryuuma, curious about his activity.

"*Death Note*?" She read the title with a smile. "Are you on leave today, Gatou-kun?"

"Yes, for two days," Ryuuma nodded.

Emi nodded, choosing not to comment further. She headed downstairs to prepare breakfast, planning to think about lunch later since they were both home.

He kept writing non-stop, completely immersed in his work. When he didn't come downstairs for breakfast, Emi decided to bring tea and a bread omelette to the bedroom. She carefully placed the tray on the table beside him.

"Thank you," Ryuuma said briefly, not taking his eyes off the screen as his fingers flew across the keyboard.

Emi quietly watched him for a moment, amazed at his speed and the intense focus he displayed. She was also surprised by the story he seemed to have so meticulously planned out. The name *Death Note* intrigued her, but she didn't want to interrupt his creative flow with questions.

After he finished eating, she took the empty dishes back to the kitchen. Deciding to give him space, Emi turned her attention to the house chores. She wasn't sure how long he would be busy, but she knew Ryuuma well enough to understand that when he was this absorbed in something, it could be hours before he emerged.

As she moved around the house, dusting, vacuuming, and tidying up, her mind wandered back to his unusual behaviour that morning. The coldness in his eyes still lingered in her memory, making her uneasy. She hoped that whatever had caused his distress would pass soon and that their life would return to normal.

Meanwhile, in the bedroom, Ryuuma continued to type at an incredible pace. Ideas flowed seamlessly from his mind to the screen, and the story of *Death Note* began to take shape. The characters, plot twists, and intricate details fell into place, his previous life's memories guiding his hand.

Hours passed, and Ryuuma finally leaned back, stretching his arms above his head. He glanced at the clock and realized how much time had flown by. He saved his work and stood up, feeling a sense of accomplishment. The first few chapters were complete, and they were just as he remembered them.

Leaving the bedroom, he made his way downstairs. The smell of a clean house and the sound of Emi humming softly as she worked greeted him. He found her in the living room, arranging some fresh flowers in a vase.

"Emi," he called softly.

She turned, a smile spreading across her face. "Yes, Gatou-kun?"

"I'm sorry about earlier," he said, walking over to her. "I was a bit lost in my thoughts. Thank you for understanding."

He wasn't lying. When he saw those future memories, he had felt a surge of anger. But now that the anger had dissipated, he felt bad for treating her poorly, especially when those events hadn't even happened.

Emi's smile widened, and she reached up to touch his cheek gently. "It's okay. I know you've been under a lot of stress. Just remember I'm here for you."

Ryuuma nodded. "I know. And I appreciate it more than you know."

Ryuuma leaned in and planted a kiss on her forehead, making her smile.

"Let me help you," Ryuuma said. "Since I'm at home, it's the least I can do."

"You don't have to though…" Emi gently caressed his cheek. "But if you want to, I won't stop you. I needed someone's help anyway to clean certain places."

Ryuuma then began to follow her throughout the house, helping her whenever she needed an extra hand or was busy cleaning another area. By noon, they had finished cleaning the house and decided to take a quick shower.

Inside the bathroom, Ryuuma sat on a stool while Emi sat behind him, washing his back with soap and a soft brush.

"You're acting quite differently today…" Emi remarked with a small smile.

"Is it a bad thing?" Ryuuma asked curiously.

"No, no, it's a good thing." Emi quickly replied. "I like this new you, who is taking the time to be with me."

Since he had started working at the company, he had been neglecting her a bit, something that bothered her greatly but she didn't have the courage to tell him, fearing it might make him feel bad. However, since this morning, he seemed like a different person—more confident, passionate, and even more manly.

"Don't worry, I plan to change myself, and I'm sure you'll love the new me," Ryuuma said with a chuckle. "You saw me writing something earlier, right? I'm planning to create a light novel and earn money from that so I can leave the company."

"Are you sure, Gatou-kun? What if something goes wrong?" Emi asked, a hint of uncertainty in her voice.

"If anything goes wrong, we'll simply bear the consequences," Ryuuma replied confidently. "As long as you're with me, I can tackle any problem."

Hearing his words, Emi's ears turned red, but a delightful smile played on her lips.

"I will support you, Gatou-kun, no matter what."
