She helped me to my feet, and we started making our way back down the trail. Carmen supported me, taking most of my weight and making sure I didn't put too much pressure on my injured ankle. Each step sent a sharp pain through my leg, but I tried to focus on the warmth of Carmen's arm around my waist and the comfort of her presence beside me.

After a few minutes of slow progress, Carmen stopped and turned to me, concern etched across her face. "You're in too much pain. This isn't working."
