Cement production (2)

Even if the slaves were complaining in low voices, no one stooped to hear their cries, the knights quickly ordered the slaves to start heading towards Golton. Of course, the wagons had already been taken to Golton by the horses and they were now awaiting to be loaded with sand.

Using the carriages pulled by the horses might not be conceivable because horses didn't have much energy to pull something as heavy as a wagon fully loaded with sand from Golton to Pollow, not to mention that there were not many carriages that could do the job, therefore, Virtya could only depend on the slaves to pull the wagons filled with sand from Golton to Pollow. Clearly, there was limited sand to be collected in Pollow which forced Virtya to go to Golton to collect the sand from there.

The slaves and the chained prisoners were led towards Golton under the watchful eyes of the knights riding on the horses. These knights were holding whips in their hands and if anyone slowed down, they would be whipped mercilessly and forced back on the way.

It had been close to three hours since the slaves and the prisoners started their journey from Pollow to Golton.

Their destination could not be seen and the morning sun that had just shown up didn't spare them, there was no rain and the heat of the sun shone upon the muddy terrain and the many potholes that were holding stagnant water. The humidity was high because of the intense heat from the sun that quickly evaporated the moisture from the ground but this humidity didn't bring calmness to the slaves and the prisoners as it only made the temperature to go higher and higher making these workers to be exhausted and dehydrated even before they had yet to do a thing. One should know that even if Virtya manufactured carriages at one point, he didn't store them for his own use but instead, he sold many of them and those that remained were being used by his knights to move around.

Following the slaves and the prisoners were not only the knights driving on their horses but also several carriages that were pulling water tanks made of steel. The slaves on motion could be seen crowding around the tap of the water tanks as they tried to drink to their fill to quench their thirst for water. It was not that the water tanks were still, no, the water tanks were being pulled forward as the slaves moved, no time was wasted on the way.

Most of the slaves were wearing tattered pieces of clothing that had several patches here and there because Virtya didn't have the money to spend on buying uniforms for his workers, After all, just a single piece of clothing costed a few silver coins, where do you expect Virtya to get millions of gold coins to clothe his workers? He would better spend that money to his projects.

The only thing that Virtya had promised the slaves was that he would give them their freedom once the cement plant started its operations. Of course, Virtya would still need them to continue fetching sand and other raw materials from Golton to Pollow, but when that time comes, Virtya was sure that he would have the money to pay the workers to do the transportation after he began selling cement to other kingdoms, additionally, Virtya could buy horses and wagons to fetch sand from Golton to Pollow. A little amount of load would not tire the horses that much, right? Virtya just needed to buy many horses to pull the wagons.

The chains of the prisoners rattled and the sound of whips sounded which made the slaves to keep up the needed pace.

"Move your asses forward quickly!"

"Where are you going shitty brat? Get back on the way!

"I don't want to see many asses crowding around the tap, you dimwits should drink the water one at a time."

Some of the slaves and the prisoners had lifeless looks as they walked lifelessly towards Golton, tiredness, dehydration, sleep deprived and hunger was kicking in without pity. However, there were some people among them who held strongly and walked with stable gait as if all that distance was nothing to them, another section of slaves had even managed to form uruly groups where they were harassing their fellows especially when it came to drinking water but the knights didn't stop the formation of these groups as if they were encouraging it.
