In this novel, we will journey with Virtya Markov as he bought about the period of rapid industrialization and technological advancement that transformed society and paved way for modern civilization. As a king of a kingdom that didn't have resources like food, minerals, population and money, Virtya's kingdom was bound to fall. He was hated by the people that he ruled over, he didn't have charisma, the neighbouring kingdoms were threatening to invade his kingdom, enemies were everywhere but despite all these problems, Virtya struggled to change his world by using technology because he chanced upon the book of technology.
'Damn it! Damn it! This has to be a stupid dream. I think I drunk too much alcohol this time round.' Virtya lamented in his mind. But he was not given a chance to have a rest even if he yearned for it.
"Protect the king!" A nonchalant order was heard. This voice was womanly and it carried a commanding tone with it. All the knights who heard this voice trembled before they struggled to trudge forward.
Virtya only had a single slim chance to peek at the place where he was because of how tightly he was covered by human shields all around him in that he could not even see where they were heading to.
From this single peek, he realized that he was in an area that was occupied by countless peasant's mud houses, huts and temporary wood houses that could be easily carried away by floods or wind.
They passed through the uneven labyrinth that was created by these dilapidated houses and Virtya could not help but curse in his mind again and again.
Let alone the people who were calling him their king, the place where they were passing by was more than dirty, there were ditches and trenches everywhere in that he almost stumbled after stepping into one of them accidentally. If not for the help of the pretty petite lady beside him, he would have fallen down. This lady was the only person whom Virtya's eyes could not accept to stop staring, she was very very beautiful and furthermore, she didn't allow him to fall or step on dirt, it was better for her to step on dirt but not Virtya. This lady whom the knights called her their commander was the one that had made Virtya to stop thinking about how he found himself in this place.
Anyway, the knights leading the king out of this place were robust men and they respected the orders of this petite lady as if she was their goddess.
They stepped on shit, ditches that were filled with putrid sewage but they didn't stop.
But why were they running?
From Virtya's previous peeking, he had seen many people who were wearing just rags and there were also some among them who were not even wearing anything, these people were totally dirty and emaciated as they squirmed among themselves just to reach to where the king was, they didn't even care about their lives as their mouths chanted,
"Erase king Virtya! Erase king Virtya! Erase king Virtya!"
Even though the number of the knights who were guarding the king was less than that of the emaciated people, the knights remained unfazed upon seeing the overwhelming numbers of these barbarians,
The knights beat up some of them and the few that almost reached closer to Virtya the petite lady beside him didn't stand on ceremony, the heads of the barbarians rolled in the air, but this didn't solve the problem as it only fueled the anger of the barbarians. They threw their lives away just to reach to where Virtya was but no one managed,
The formation that was set to protect the king was flawless, not to mention that these barbarians were just simple denizens who didn't have any skills or experience about war, thus, the were a piece of cake against the experienced knights.
"This is so annoying! Men! Plod forward with a quick pace, the carriage is right in front of us!" The petite lady ordered the men expressionlessly.
She placed her arm around Virtya's arm and gestured for him to follow her,
Virtya didn't say anything and followed but right at this moment,
A face emerged from the filthy trench that was filled with mad and stared at Virtya with a wide perturbing grin and without wasting any single second, the whole body that belonged to that face finally emerged and the person run towards Virtya at an unprecedented speed.
One should know that this person had emerged inside the formation because he had been lying there as he awaited for them to pass by so that he could get this slim chance to assassinate the king.
The person was incredibly fast and he was not wearing anything on his nude body.
The putrid mud covered his entire body and his pintle moved from side to side rapidly as he drew closer to Virtya.
"Am I going to die!" Virtya panicked. Unlike the knights surrounding him, he didn't knew anything about battling, thus, he didn't knew what to do if the spike that the barbarian held in his hand would truly sink into his flesh.
The barbarian moved closer and closer and that made Virtya to panic even more in that he almost pissed in his pants.
However, no sooner had the barbarian reached very close to Virtya than the petite lady beside him moved.
She was incredibly faster than the barbarian and the glaive that she usually kept with her cleanly decapitated the barbarian with his grin.
Blood splattered all over Virtya's face and he could not help but tremble.
The beautiful lady was so vicious.
The smell and the gory site before him almost made Virtya to vomit but he held it in and persevered.
"Compress the formation!" The petite lady ordered and the wide formation was compressed to cover the king tightly.
Some of the knights had to exit from the formation so that it could be compressed and right there and then, Virtya could vaguely see his carriage that he was being led to.
The carriage was exquisitely made in that it resembled such kind of royal stuffs from the medieval Europe. However, its beauty had been dirtied by the annoying barbarians who were until now throwing stones and filth at the carriage, they didn't dare to come closer to the carriage as Virtya could see that it was heavily guarded by even more knights.
"Raise the umbrella shield to cover his majesty!" The petite lady who was holding Virtya ordered and the warriors who were the masters of the tight formation surrounding Virtya drew out their shields.
These shields were not the typical Earthly shields but they were made in a jigsaw manner in that the moment every knight in the formation drew their own shields out, the shields merged perfectly to cover Virtya, the petite lady and the knights who were the masters of the formation. Safely, the formation headed towards the carriage.
