Night Desert

The inky blackness of the desert night deepened, and a million stars splashed across the endless canvas of the sky. The rhythmic rasp of Alex's breathing outside soothed Oliver and Barrie, who slept soundly inside the tent.

Alex, cloaked in the cool desert air, stood guard, his gaze fixed on the horizon. The vast expanse of sand stretched before him, an endless sea of dunes bathed in the ethereal glow of moonlight. He yearned to see further, to pierce the veil of darkness that shrouded the distance.

A frown creased his brow in frustration.

His normal vision, even enhanced by his abilities, offered a limited view. The details beyond a certain point blurred, leaving him with an unsatisfying sense of incompleteness.

"Maybe this is just how humans see at night?" he muttered to himself, a hint of self-deprecation tinging his voice.
