The Master of Death

"Master of Death?" Odin asked in a disbelieving tone, it was impossible, there was no way this Midgardian could be the master of death.

"That's the title I have," Harry nodded. "death will not touch me. When you are all dust, I will be standing, so trust an actual immortal when he says that all life is important. A single mortal could end up advancing medicine to the point where he'd be able to help save miAXllions of lives, a single mortal can also destroy everything. I saw an entire world ruined by a single mortal, do not underestimate anyone because you believe you can outlive them."

"Have care how you speak," Odin warned. "or we will test the limits of your mortality very soon."

"Oh yeah?" Harry raised an eyebrow as his wand appeared in his hand. "Let's try that out if you are so confident, you wouldn't be the first person I've met who believed themselves immortal and unable to be killed. I took great pleasure in proving him wrong." Harry said, his green eyes flaring.

Odin was about to respond when suddenly he heard a growl, one that wasn't coming from the wizard. He looked down and saw that standing next to the wizard was a black dog, the wizard was holding it by his neck. Odin took a step back before he even realized that he had, the dog looked like a much smaller version of Fenrir, surely that's just a coincidence. The Einherjar, Odin's guards, raised their weapons, ready to defend their king.

"Wait!" Thor quickly spoke up before everyone could start fighting. "Stand down," He ordered the Einherjar, "they are my friends and warriors who have fought alongside me in battle, you will not harm them." He said, his tone indicating to the guards that they would be much better off if they listened to him. The guards looked unsure about what they should do, on the one hand Thor was their prince but on the other hand the wizard and his dog was threatening Odin, who was their king.

Odin, after a few tense moments of silence gestured them to stand down, Padfoot relaxed once the guards no longer had their weapons aimed at his master. Padfoot temporarily forgot about Odin and walked over to Thor and Jane.

"Oh hi." Jane whispered to Padfoot who paused to nod at her before moving towards Thor.

"Hello Padfoot," Thor smiled as Padfoot rubbed his head against Thor's leg, Thor reached a hand down and gently stroked Padfoot behind the ear. "I have missed you too." Thor said, Padfoot barked happily in response.

"I have had enough of this," Odin said as he shook his head. "guards, take these Midgardians away and send them back to where they came from." Odin ordered. Harry's wand tip glowed red just as Padfoot began growling again.

"No Father, I…" Thor paused when one of the guards went to grab Jane. "no I wouldn't…" A red blast shot out from her body throwing everyone back apart from Thor, Odin and Harry and Padfoot. "Touch her." Thor softly finished, he decided to ignore the healers and guards who were standing up after the blast and went to Jane. "Are you alright?" He asked in a concerned voice. Jane didn't respond, at least not verbally, she just gave him a soft moan and kept her eyes closed, the red stuff had made her very tired.

Odin walked up to her and waved his hand over her body, apparently scanning her to see what the red blast was. When Odin's hand hovered over her arm everyone could see the red energy that was travelling through her arm.

"That's impossible." Odin said in a quiet and disbelieving voice.

"The infection, it's… it's defending her." The head healer said with disbelief and surprise.

"It's defending itself." Thor said.

"Which is why it is defending her," Harry realized. "it's killing her but it's also protecting her, it reacts to other people but it doesn't react to you, Thor."

"What does that mean?" Thor asked.

"My best guess is that it means it's a parasite, it's using her body until it can no longer use it, then it will either die out or skip to another body, probably the second one."

"Come with me." Odin said suddenly.

...

Odin took Jane, Thor and Harry to a room where the first thing they would've noticed was the rather magnificent and large tree.

"Wow." Harry breathed out as he looked at it, he could see what looked like portals on each branch. He could tell that this was no ordinary tree without even looking at it, he could feel the magic surging through it just like a lot of things in Asgard. "What the hell is that?" Harry said Thor as he gestured to the tree, Jane also looked interested and gave Thor her full attention.

"It is a representation of Yggdrasil, the World Tree," Thor answered "your world is one of the Nine Realms of the Cosmos, linked to each other by the branches of Yggdrasil. There are nine realms, one of them is Midgard which is Earth, there are a few others including Asgard where we currently are now."

"You can have a tour later," Odin interrupted before anyone could reply, the group followed him into another room, that was far less impressive looking than the previous one. "now, there are relics that predate the universe itself, what lies within her appears to be one of them. The nine realms are not eternal, they have a dawn, just as they will have a dusk." Odin spoke as he pulled out a large book and opened it while the others gathered around. "Before that dawn the dark elves reigned absolute and unchallenged."

"Dark elves?" Harry asked as he briefly had a mental image of an evil Dobby pass through his head. "What do they look like?"

"They are as tall as any man," Odin answered as he gestured to a picture of them on the books. "they have a shape like any man but with longer ears. Make no mistake, they were powerful beings when they were alive." Odin finished, Harry looked at the pictures, and saw the elves were covered in black apart from their long eared heads which were a very pale white.

"'Born of eternal night, the dark elves come to steal the light'." Thor read from the book. "I know these stories, mother told us them when we were children." He said with a fond smile, remembering simple times.

"Their leader, Malekith, made a weapon out of the darkness and it was called the Aether." Odin continued speaking. "While other relics often appeared in the form of stones, the Aether is fluid and ever changing. It changes matter into dark matter, it seeks out hosts and it draws strength from their life force. Malekith sought to use the Aether's power to return the universe to one of darkness. But, after eternities of bloodshed and horrors, my father Bor finally triumphed against the dark elves, ushering in a peace that lasted thousands of years." Odin finished, saying the last part with a hint of pride in his voice.

"What happened?" Jane asked.

"He killed them all." Odin said simply.
