Chapter 4

"Like what personal reasons, Hikigaya"

She knows my name? She might not be that bad of a teacher if she genuinely remembered everyone's name. Anyway, I already decided to be honest with the teacher, so I asked.

"You said points can buy anything. How many points to change classes."

She stared at me for a moment and seemed to assess me. It didn't feel uncomfortable, but it did feel weird having a teacher stare at me.

"... If you're planning to go to class A, there are two methods. I can tell you the first requires 20 million pri-, 20 million points but if your reason for switching is that you don't fit in. You're very wrong"

As expected, she really was qualified to be a teacher. She saw through me immediately, however, unfortunately for her, she did not realize I had 2 objectives when asking that questions. First, to switch classes, but second, to figure out if my theory about the classes being sorted based on skill was true.

"Why did you automatically think I would go to class A? Does that mean class A is the best?"

She narrowed her eyes for a moment and reanalyzed me. Alright, now it's uncomfortable. It's like she's staring at my body.

"... you figured all of that out already"

"so there is a class competition"

"hehe, I found a diamond in the rough"

"I mean anyone should be able to figure it out, but my most important question. What do I gain from graduating from class A?"

"Hmmm, I think I can answer that. You gain the choice to freely choose your career path rather than having it determined by the school"

"Also, you mentioned private points. What are those? Are there different types of points?"

The teacher covered her mouth with her hands and visibly looked shocked.

"wh-when d-did I say private points"

"hmm, so they are called private points, you stuttered earlier and said something along the lines of pri, so I assumed private."

"..."

"Can I take that as meaning you are unable to answer my questions regarding private points?"

She nodded, clearly being embarrassed as she was tricked not once, but twice today.

It's funny to think one of the teachers at the best school in Japan was tricked by a first-year student two times within 10 minutes.

"umm sensei, did I get you into trouble"

She glared at me. She clearly said something that she wasn't supposed to say. I ignored it and moved on to my final question.

"Last question, why was I placed in class B? If you're my advisor, you saw my interview report. What sense does it make to put me with those jolly do-gooders?"

"mmm, I can't say. I'm not the one in charge of sorting students into the classes"

" *sigh* Thank you for help sensei, you know originally, I doubted you, but it seems like you are a good teacher"

*WHACK*

The teacher whacked me on the head with one of her papers. Did she just hit me ...?

"HMPH, what do you mean you doubted me? I'm off. You should go to the entrance ceremony"

I turned around, spoke quickly, and ran off.

"I mean I did get you twice today sensei"

-*- (POV Change to Hoshanomiya)

As soon as I entered the classroom, I could easily tell one student was different from the rest. Actually before entering the class, I read through the reports of each student, and I couldn't tell why they put Hikigaya in class B. Wouldn't he drag them down with his clear rotten attitude?

My worries only intensified when I saw him in the corner of the room. Even without the report, I could tell he didn't fit in with the rest of class B. I had no idea why the principal would give him to me, and I was disappointed. He would most likely be an obstacle moving forward in the class.

Then that same boy came up to me and asked me how to change classes. This was expected, so I tried to comfort him by lying. However, when I said that and looked into his fish-like eyes. I realized I had been tricked. With a single trick question, this Hikigaya was able to prove that there would indeed be a class competition and that students were sorted into classes based on their ability with class A being the best.

I had been a teacher at school for over five years and a student at some point, but never had someone seen through the system so easily. In fact, there was probably no other first year that figured out the class competition system in this short amount of time. I thought I was lucky when Ichinose joined class B, but now this boy may be even better.

Only next month would students learn of the class competition, and that Hikigaya determined the answer with one single trick question.

Adding to the embarrassment of being tricked into revealing the class competition system, I also slipped up and mentioned private points, and the boy immediately caught on. Instead of asking what I meant by pri, he took a guess and confirmed that there were indeed different types of points.

The man, who previously seemed like an introvert with a rotten attitude, now interested me more than any student I had ever had before.

I snorted with happiness and walked back towards the teacher's lounge. However, waiting for me at the door was class D's advisor, Chabashira.

" *HAHAHA* Looks like you hit the jackpot Hoshanomiya."

"Oh really, did you see his attitude? He even dared to say he doubted my teaching skills"

"Who cares about his attitude, he was able to even trick you, not once, but twice. That question to find about the class system, and then you mentioned private points by accident."

"*HMP* you know I'll lose part of my annual bonus because I accidentally mentioned private points"

Chabashira turned around and said.

"You know it was worth it. Anyways, good luck, keeping him in class B"

"..."

-*- (Back to hikigaya)

Was it a really good idea to tease her like that? It would be bad to have a teacher hating me after only a day of classes, but she seems like the type of teacher who can take a joke. I also wanted to get back at her for hitting me.

I also felt if I didn't run away at that point, she would notice that my hands and legs were trembling and see that her charm was indeed working on me. If she saw that happening. No. Never. I shivered thinking about how much bolder that teacher could be. I couldn't get that thought out of my head. Did I really fall for her? I laughed, of course I didn't. Heart, don't scare me like that

I headed towards the gymnasium and entered the graduation ceremony. It seemed like I was the last student from class B to arrive as the rest probably came together. I stood towards the back of class B.

This was another trick I learned in middle school. I stood close enough to Class B's line that the students walking by would think I was in Class B, but I also stood far enough that Class B students would question if I was in their class. I call it, "The Perfect Distance"

I looked around the gymnasium and spotted classes, C and D. I could now further prove my theory. Rather than being in a neat line like class B, the classes were huddled together like some blob. It was obvious, they were inferior from a simple glance, but I was still curious as to why the school deemed them inferior students. After all, there were probably students smarter than me in those classes, however, I was still placed in Class B.

I'll have to ask the teacher about that later. Turning around, I could see class A, who were also in a neat line. At the front of the line, there was a small girl with white hair and a cane, and behind her stood another man, who was bald and twice her height.

Those two were probably the leaders of Class A. I averted my gaze from the two to not be noticed and turned back to Class D. I was curious as to why they were deemed the worst of the worst by the school. The students were talking loudly and laughing, completely ignoring the silent atmosphere around them.

They really have no social awareness. Is that why? Even during the principal's speech, I could see a group of 3 students talking amongst each other. Do they have no manners? And why is the principal not punishing them? This school is really too lenient.

I think that Class D will learn their lesson next month though. With those people, I doubt they'll be able to gain any private points.

Maybe I was just being jealous. After all, I was bored too, but I had no one to talk to. I glanced around the bottom two classes as class A scared me. Though the bald man was intimidating, it was the small girl that scared me, she wore a fake smile and gave off an eery aura. I looked around for a while, and eventually, the speech ended.

I was amongst the first to leave. I really didn't want to socialize with the do-gooders from Class B. They were sure to be annoying. Also, I didn't know how many private points I would be receiving next month, so I decided to head back to check out my dorm and search for ways to make private points on the school's community page. There were probably second and third-years on there who knew some ways.

In my opinion, private points were the most important thing. After all, private points can buy ANYTHING!
